I feel bad about Matt Ryan because 28-3 wasn’t even his fault. Yes he played worse but the reason they lost was because Shanahan as the playcaller refused to run out the clock. Dan Quinn may have also contributed to that, because he came out of halftime (when it was 21-3) saying they were still gonna go full speed ahead.
If he hadn't taken that massive sack, they most likely would have won.

No NFL MVP in the 21st Century has won that year’s Super Bowl game.
Even hard to consider this, given how often Manning and Brady have dominated the league within the 21st Century.

closest we have was Kurt Warner in the 1999 season who then won the Superbowl that was played in 2000 really insane to think he was the last NFL MVP to win a Superbowl

As a Falcon fan I would trade that superbowl loss for a different superbowl

Unfortunately, the MVP has become the MVQ. The NFL needs to consider more players from more positions for the award.

I agree. He's not completely at fault for the Falcons collapse. But he is gonna get the most flack cause he is the QB. I think if Ryan and the Falcons win that Super Bowl, Ryan has one of the best seasons as a QB EVER.

It's not really a grading of the *player* taken first overall, just showing whether the *team* escaped or endured futility.
One caveat should be made with the 2016/2017 seasons. Brady/Wentz would’ve won the SB and MVP those seasons but circumstances kept both of them from winning the MVP

This is exactly why I want Mahomes to get it as an Eagles fan. Similar thing happened in 2017: Eagles QB probably gets it if they don’t get hurt late in the season, SB opponent QB gets it and loses in the SB

Hurts was never going to get it, he didn’t do anything that was MVP caliber even when healthy. Burrow, Mahomes and Allen all did more with less.

@@TJB270 that’s not true. Mahomes has been the favorite for most of the season, and before him it was Allen. Hurts has had a baby soft schedule on a much better team. His team wasn’t injured and the only games where his team WAS injured, he lost (and barely beat the giants in the last week of regular season). He has had 0 games over 400 passing yards and has yet to play a good team with a good QB. And in terms of team accomplishments, the only thing the eagles can have is beating up on weak opponents.

Full speed ahead up 21-3 at halftime isn't terrible. But when it's 28-3 halfway through the 3rd quarter, that's time to start trying to manage the clock. Not just kill all the time you can and just take your foot off the gas, but be more methodic, put together more sustained drives, and work that clock down a lot more and be happy with hopefully a few points on top of it. Instead even with a big lead going into the 4th the Falcons didn't slow down at all, even in field goal range which was crucial. They could've run at least SOME clock down and kicked that field goal after the Julio catch. Instead they had short ass drives, got sacked out fg range, and blew it all. Crazy shit that sucks so bad for them and the world, cause Brady got another fucking ring. Like Matt Ryan a lot and it sucks he got all the blame and humiliation for that. You could see how badly it effected him :/

He and Dick Anderson were the greatest safety pair Dolphins ever had. Dick Anderson is still alive and doing well. As 1972 Dolphins die off every year and there are less and less around. We still got Griese, Warfield, Csonka and Eugene Mercury Morris. Jim Kiick was the first member of the heralded backfield to die not long ago. As a Dolphin fan I watched us win Super Bowl 7 and 8. .Then lose Super Bowls to the Redskins and 49ers. All I ask before I die is one more Dolphins Super Bowl victory. It's been too long since 1973. Correct. Usually the MVP is the one carrying the team so when the MVP gets held in check it's much easier to beat that team.
