I'm a Chiefs fan and Nick Bolton totally deserved it last night. No disrespect to Mahomes, but defense is just as important when it comes to the Super Bowl.
The last 19 on the list were all offensive players, and that's okay. Also, the entire legendary 2015 Broncos defense was full of Hall of Famers, Pro Bowlers, and studs, and that's okay too. But objectively, Von Miller's performance against a 17-1, MVP QB might be the only reason Denver wasn't blown out, and even won the game. That was as close to dominance as a defensive player will ever be on the biggest stage.

Von Miller and JJ Watt (who unfortunately never got to the big stage) are the most recent defensive players who, generally speaking, simply don't get enough love despite the fact teams actually had to game plan against them for years - in much the same way they famously had to do it against Ray Lewis and Ed Reed (both absolute legends in their own right at their respective positions ofc...)

Agree. Look at the stat line from that game. The Panthers actually played one of the very best defensive games in history too. Denver had little offense.
I know you have Ray Lewis near the bottom of the Super Bowl MVP list based on total stats. Which is correct. But the impact alone is what got him that MVP Award. He allowed the rest of that defense to play to its strengths and create havoc.

A lot of Ottis Anderson's performance came down to things that don't show up in the stat sheet. His running style was vital to the Giants' gameplan to keep the Bills' offense off the field.
Max McGee has a very strong case for being the MVP for Super Bowl I, catching 7 passes for 138 yards for2 touchdowns, while playing with a severe hangover and wearing someone else's helmet.
Eli Manning's Superbowl 42 performance was rated so damn high when he shouldn't have even been the MVP... That was Justin Tuck's award.. plus Desmond Howard's MVP should've been in the hands of Reggie White. Tom Brady's first MVP should've been Ty Law & Matt Snell should've had the award over Joe Namath These QBs are always given the bulk of the credit when if you just go back & watch the game you see that they weren't the best on the field play in play out, drive in drive out QTR to QTR!
Namath is the only quarterback to win MVP without a touchdown pass. He also didn't have a touchdown run. 35 is way too high. People overrate his performance just because he said his team was going to win.
I know that the argument of "it was a different time" always comes up with Namath, but I really don't understand how he is considered to be that good. He seems so boring in any clips I've seen. Granted, I wasn't around while he was playing so maybe it was different then.
Montana and Young could have had better performances. 49ers called off the dogs in the 55-10 win against Broncos in 89 season in 3rd quarter. Same with Young in 94 season, they called off the dogs in 4rd quarter. Both could have honestly had more TDs or at least yards if the RB takes it in for TD.
Aikman could of beat that record in 92, but he was out of the game at the start of the 3rd quarter when 4 TDs himself and was cutting though the Bills like butter.
There's a reason why quarterbacks win so many MVPs. When the offense does well, it's USUALLY because of them. Williams may have had a great game, but who got him into position for those scores?

Eli’s XLVI should be ahead of Brady’s XXXVI. Both were for decent games with a great drive but Manning’s had one of if not the greatest throw in Super Bowl history. Brady’s was great but mostly check downs.
I'm confused as to how Eli Manning is at 34 (30-40, 296 yds, 1TD plus game winning drive with one of the most gorgeous throws ever to Manningham) is outranked by Brady at 33 (16-27, 145 yds, 1TD plus his own game winning drive). I get that Brady is considered the GOAT by many, but this particular game was utterly pedestrian outside of that game winning drive.
Simple. He was lucky to be 34. Below average Eli was carried by the defense through both postseasons. The defense gave up an average of 15.1 points/game, no game over 20 points, and an opposing passer rating of a mere 74. And Eli still barely managed to win on last second plays despite multiple pro bowl QBs having what may have been their worst game of the year. The defense didn't allow more than 20, despite those same teams putting up 45, 31, 35, 38, 28, and 37 points against the Giants in the regular season in mostly blowouts. Overall, Eli scored less in the postseason and was hailed as the hero. To put this in perspective, with what Eli did in those "SB runs", if the opposing teams just put up their average points, Eli goes 2-6. He beats the Bucs by less than a point and the '11 Packers by 2. That's it. 8 straight playoff teams that were 13 points below their season average. And Eli still barely managed to win 5/8 games. And 2 of those "Eli wins" were overtime games in which Eli literally did nothing on the game winning drive, but he is given all the credit for the win. Eli deserved neither MPV. Someone on the defense did both times. Without the defense doing what they did, Eli's points in the SB of 17 and 19 are blowouts.
Super Bow 57 was a classic! I expect it high in the list because Patrick Mahomes became the first QB since Kurt Warner to win NFL MVP and the Super Bowl in the same season. Plus, he did it with a stained ankle.

@michaelwoolsey3886 The real of MVP of that game was Craig Morton. The absolute worst QB to ever play in the Super Bowl, he basically handed the Colts that game with one inept pass attempt after another. Abysmal. If Staubach had played in that game, Dallas would've won by 40 points.
That's dumb. The NFL should not censor it's history. The Redskins changed their name, they don't need to erase them from history. Like or not, the Washington Redskins won 3 Super Bowls (plus 2 pre-Super Bowl NFL titles).
Beletnikoff MVP needs a little perspective, back in the day when some QB’s didn’t throw as much, Stabler only threw 19 passes in that game, Fred had 4 receptions but they were extremely pivotal in that game
It's hard to pick out an individual in some scenarios. Offensive line play is so interdependent, same with defense. How many Super Bowls were won by a dominant defensive line, but you can't really pick out an individual cause they just caused constant pressure. The NY Giants come to mind beating NE twice.
Four receptions, 74 yards, no TD. He is a Hall of Fame player but compared to the other performances in the respective super bowls, the rank of 57 is appropriate.
If anything the OL should of been the MVP for the Raiders how they held the purple people eaters to nothing on D. OL will never get that award....the hogs on the Redskins was amazing also.
@ken33461 Caught 3 passes that put the Raiders on the 1, the 1 again, and then the 2 yd line. Set up 3 touchdowns for the Raiders. No way is that the worst MVP performance. This list is a joke.
They put too much emphasis on stats over the eye test. Lots of these players (especially quarterbacks) had great stats but didn't have to do much and made very few difficult throws. Aaron Rodgers in 2010 had a top 5 performance ever from the eye test in my opinion, although I agree with Young being put #1 and in the Super Bowl it's fair that lots of non-quarterbacks win, because over half of all Super Bowls have been ugly blowouts, with many of them having sloppy play. Because of this people shouldn't complain about defensive players not getting recognized. Of course, a lot of the time a quarterback gets it by default for playing okay at the most important position.
@@jrad410 Agreed. Should have been 46-25 or 39-18, unfortunately in the other games where Packers receivers and runningbacks let down, Aaron Rodgers wasn't lucky enough to have turnovers from his defense shame
Of course this is assuming that the MVP was the player who actually deserved it. There have been players who should have gotten the MVP but didn’t. Some Super Bowls were lopsided when it comes to the teams who really should not have made it there.
Eil Manning's super bowl 46 performance is being downright disrespected. How is Brady's first super bowl a better performance than that? Eli dropped possibly the greatest throw in super bowl history to manningham!!!
Because Eli was only in the game because of the defense. In fact, in both SB runs, each team they faced were 6-23 points below their season average. 8 straight teams 13 points below their season average. And Eli still barely managed to win 5/8 games. Eli was not nearly as good as his fans think he was.
We need to bring back SBMVPs being able to be won by players on the losing team as well cause it’s been wayyy too many times when the winning teams MVP is outplayed by the losing teams best player, like what happened with Mahomes and Hurts, and I’m not saying the Mahomes didn’t play well, I’m just saying that Hurts played better
Mahomes has the highest QB rating of any player in SB history. Explain how Hurts played better? Hurts got more stats, but also made a mistake, something Mahomes did not. Not to mention he did that on ONE LEG 😳
@@Bakuru These Hurts apologists keep ignoring the biggest game changing stat there is "the Turnover", one which directly resulted in points for the opponent. Take away the turnover he likely wins the game and the MVP, but he didn't.

Nah, it requires skill to intentionally throw a game...Neil O'Donnell just flat out sucked. Probably the worst QB to ever start a Super Bowl, and that includes chumps like Vince Ferragamo, Tony Eason, and Rex Grossman.
Peyton Manning at 56 is so ridiculous. It's like they just looked at the raw numbers and assumed he wasn't that good in the game. PM was dealing with a top 3 defense in torrential downpour of rain. He was great in that game and absolutely deserved the SB MVP no matter how "unsexy" his numbers were.
Lol he wasn't hood that entire playoffs. For that playoff run, he had 3 tds and 7 ints. Peyton manning was nothing more than a glorified regular season stat machine.

If Staubach had played in that game, Dallas would've won by 40 points.
Took out the name Redskins in the title cards, and even radio call lmao. Anyway, great list. Thanks for spotlighting.
That's dumb. The NFL should not censor it's history. The Redskins changed their name, they don't need to erase them from history. Like or not, the Washington Redskins won 3 Super Bowls (plus 2 pre-Super Bowl NFL titles).
Shouldn’t Terrell Davis be tied with Hurts for most rushing touchdowns in a Super Bowl at the 31:00 mark?
I still think Damien Williams was robbed of LIV's MVP. 107 Yards Rushing, 29 yards Receiving, 2 TDs, and put the game way.
or chris jones, 3 pass defensed at a critical point of the game...
Santino Holmes being ranked above Von Miller is laughable lol
Beletnikoff MVP needs a little perspective, back in the day when some QB’s didn’t throw as much, Stabler only threw 19 passes in that game, Fred had 4 receptions but they were extremely pivotal in that game
The greatest come-back of all time behind Montana magic. Also, I disagree if a game isn't close in the last 2 minutes. It shouldn't be at the top 10.
Tom Brady was so good in Super Bowl LI that he threw a TD to the other team.
Well I guess it’s a good thing superbowls consist of more than two quarters
Your hemorrhoids are posting again. 😆
To xeracityII, I agree. Gettin tired of it always being the QB/RB/WR;. When was the last time an offensive lineman won the award?
It's hard to pick out an individual in some scenarios. Offensive line play is so interdependent, same with defense. How many Super Bowls were won by a dominant defensive line, but you can't really pick out an individual cause they just caused constant pressure. The NY Giants come to mind beating NE twice.
Von Miller should be way, way higher.
Y'damn right Steve Young is #1!
Love the game an it's history. Thanks for keeping it alive an well
Idk how you could have Larry brown so high
Neil O'Donnel should have got it....for the Cowboys...
That fred SB MVP performance would look way better if he scored those 2 tds
Fred Biletnikoff is 57? What the hell? This guy was an utter phenomenon.
Hold up. You have Super BOwl XXV ranked at 52?!?!?! You MUST be joking!
doug williams of the redskins... was EPIC... in 1988
I'm 7 players in and this list is wacked
2023 Super Bowl only got 10% of the viewing figures that the FIFA World Cup got. How crazy is that?
Considering soccer is an international sport it is not crazy at all.
Hey! You took my next video idea! 😄
Packers shoulda won that game in a blowout. Receivers dropped alot of passes
@@jrad410 Agreed. Should have been 46-25 or 39-18, unfortunately in the other games where Packers receivers and runningbacks let down, Aaron Rodgers wasn't lucky enough to have turnovers from his defense shame
Best preformence from each losing super team
Of course this is assuming that the MVP was the player who actually deserved it. There have been players who should have gotten the MVP but didn’t. Some Super Bowls were lopsided when it comes to the teams who really should not have made it there.
Eli Manning is the poster boy for this.
Eil Manning's super bowl 46 performance is being downright disrespected. How is Brady's first super bowl a better performance than that? Eli dropped possibly the greatest throw in super bowl history to manningham!!!
He never gets the respect he deserves
Hurts gave the opposing team a free TD....and lost by less than a TD. He literally cost his team the game.
Thurman Thomas comes to mind. He was the better RB in SB XXV and had the Bills won, no one would remember Anderson’s performance.
There's no "Worst" Super Bowl MVPs.
damn right manning vs bears is basically the worst, that should have been Addai and Rhodes award.
Deion Branch should be lower. That wasn’t even the best WR performance in that game lol
Roger staubach and drew brees have more super bowl mvps than nfl mvps, that doesn't seem right😔
How tf was joe flacco’s super bowl mvp that low on the list ?? Dude played lights out football for 4 weeks then put on the show of the decade when the stage was the biggest. Not even a ravens fan, but that shit stung
As a Falcons fan, thank you for not putting LI at #1 lol
Jalen Hurts tied the record for most rushing touchdowns in a Superbowl
Maybe the Eagles should have won if they wanted Donovan McNabb 2.0 to get MVP
It’s sad that Tom didn’t get the mvp for Super Bowl LII considering all the records he broke in the game
Richard Dent doesn't get anywhere near the credit he deserves.
This list is actually correct. Gotta give respect where respect is due. As a Broncos fan I'm happy TD's performance was top 10, my favorite sports memory and always will be!
The black out bowl at 38 is a CRIME
@11:30 lol, O'Donnell threw the game
Nah, it requires skill to intentionally throw a game...Neil O'Donnell just flat out sucked. Probably the worst QB to ever start a Super Bowl, and that includes chumps like Vince Ferragamo, Tony Eason, and Rex Grossman.
This list order is bizarre and has no clear consistency or reasoning.
I knew that the first 2 would be Steve Young and Brady vs the Falcons
Peyton Manning at 56 is so ridiculous. It's like they just looked at the raw numbers and assumed he wasn't that good in the game.
PM was dealing with a top 3 defense in torrential downpour of rain. He was great in that game and absolutely deserved the SB MVP no matter how "unsexy" his numbers were.
Agreed, ranking him at 56 (2nd worst ever) is just disrespectful and wrong. NFL Throwback seems to love crapping on Peyton though.
His big td pass was to a wide open Wayne on a busted coverage. It wasnt a great performance, ppl don’t talk about that game.
That's the problem. People just look at stats and make a judgement off that.
@@Anon-zl4ne it's funny having guys with 2 ints or 3 sacks above him. Bit blatant.
Lol he wasn't hood that entire playoffs. For that playoff run, he had 3 tds and 7 ints. Peyton manning was nothing more than a glorified regular season stat machine.
