Paint shop explained by an exotic classic sport car restorer of 30yrs: 1. Painters are usually insane, it’s THE hardest job in all of automotive, a painter that is 80% sane is good but you need to see some of their recent work as a comp. 2. You get what you pay for - if an established shop says it’s going to cost $30k for a paint job and you find someone to do the same thing for $10k or $20k then the low price guy will deliver GARBAGE compared to the other shop (you may get it for $25k but there is no secret formula to cheap paint because that doesn’t exist). If you find a guy that delivers then tip him BIG! 3. Anything loose that you leave in the car and isn’t needed for paint - will be lost or broken by the paint shop - this will 100% happen and it doesn’t matter how expensive the part is. 4. If you get ripped off it’s on you to get it back, police won’t help, and the guy that took you will never pay for any of your extra expenses. 5. A good shop cannot take some other crap shop’s work that they started and make it right without doing it all over again. 6. If you can do it yourself then great but it takes years of experience and dozens of jobs to learn how to do it right. It’s always more expensive and takes more time than you think on paint. Good luck guys!!!
Happened to me about 20 years ago on a vw bus restoration. Dude went to jail and it took me 3 years to find my bus parked behind a shop 40 miles away. I had to have the police show up and that guy gave me the bus finally. It was stripped and missing everything. Had to start from scratch with a new guy. Some shady dudes out there.
I hope you find a shop that can take care of the bodywork. I been through the saw ordeal in my 20s. It’s never a good idea to pay upfront unless it’s for parts. Fortunately the shop eventually finished the job.
This kind of crap has been happening forever. A shop named Hennessey comes to mind. Swapping parts, stealing parts, selling parts off one car to fix others. It was insane because the cars were all really high end cars. Want proof just Google and do the research.
Oh man! I was looking forward to this update... then I had the wind knocked outta me! Damn this sux! There are two types of these kits, you got the better of the two and I got the crappy one. I can help you out with the fitment, hit me up. I'm in Modesto only about an hour from you.
dude needs jail tbh the amount of ppl that got scammed out of money and there cars is actually insane I would’ve thought this place was a chop shop if I didn’t know what was going on hopefully everyone gets there cars back at least
Usually shops charge after. I understand if it's a starting company, but it's easy to fall behind. Feel sorry for everyone involved. Anything used is really hard to gauge timewise. Rust, broken bolts, clips, companies send the wrong parts nine times outta ten. So it can snowball , an hour here turns into a day there, then a week an so on. But damn painting houses while this is going on.
I get your frustration, I’d be super pissed too, But you can’t group everyone together and just say you’re not going to give a deposit ever again. You will have a hard time, if not impossible time finding someone to do your work.
All of you are capable of doing your own work. I would love to have a place where I could teach car people to do their own body and paint. I feels great when you’re laying paint over your own bodywork. I pray everyone gets their cars finished correctly. People like this are leaches on us all
Imagine the people who worked their whole lives to afford their dream car, then gave it to this dude and their shts gone. They might crash out and do something to him. He better start selling his booty so he can get the money back.
i hate that you and mike are so far man. im in nc. warranty, no pay up front and a gated location for security so no ones cars get damaged or stolen parts. and a quick turn around time. like 3 moths max for a all over going down to metal and all. theres good shops out there man.

I hope you find a shop that can take care of the bodywork. I been through the saw ordeal in my 20s. It’s never a good idea to pay upfront unless it’s for parts. Fortunately the shop eventually finished the job.
This is why everyone have trust issues
Damn my brother if you lived in Florida I would have that thing lined up for you and prepped with the bodywork ready and everything with no BS!
Car shop exit scams are always crazy. There was a Subaru shop by me that disappeared with a bunch of peoples expensive builds
How could that guy not be making money painting all those cars?! I know people that would love all that business!
That dood J gonna need PC!
This kind of crap has been happening forever. A shop named Hennessey comes to mind. Swapping parts, stealing parts, selling parts off one car to fix others. It was insane because the cars were all really high end cars.
Want proof just Google and do the research.
😢😢 sorry you got scammed bro. 😢😢😢 at least you got your car back, other ppl didnt their cars.
I didn't even recognize the fact that's your same MR2 until the camera got close. I was thinking you got a porsche now lol
@9:50
You said it Paradox. You have to find a shop that can ACTUALLY deal with custom cars. Cheap work isn’t good, and good work isn’t cheap.
He knows they're outhere,, but they'll be $15k plus
Reason he went to the $3k guy and got what he paid for
@@vi23100 exactly, everyone shit on J, but don’t wanna say they went there cus it was cheap.
They gave a dime and wanted gold in return
Bro it isn't hard, they just choose to rip people off.
Scammers will always be scammers.
That sucks man, hopefully everyone got there stuff back & there money back!
Oh man! I was looking forward to this update... then I had the wind knocked outta me! Damn this sux! There are two types of these kits, you got the better of the two and I got the crappy one. I can help you out with the fitment, hit me up. I'm in Modesto only about an hour from you.
That's what happens when you go cheap, and that fenced rented space does not even look like a legit body shop.
That’s messed up taking advantage of trusting people like that..fucking it up for everyone
dude needs jail tbh the amount of ppl that got scammed out of money and there cars is actually insane I would’ve thought this place was a chop shop if I didn’t know what was going on hopefully everyone gets there cars back at least
Went through this with a local shop to me. Lost 10k and picked my c10 up in pieces.
Boyy when they catch him they gonna beat his asss 😂😂😂 seriously though it’s a shame you can’t even go to the shops and pay to get your shit done
Bro coulda had a bumping buisness if he just did the work😂
Bro would’ve been racking in customers, if he did the work and would be making more money in the long run. What a dumbass.
I’m a painter myself and I always tell the customer to pay me after the work is done. Idk what’s so hard about that.
We do the same at my shop, nothing up front. No mental pressure, reward at the end
Don't you get proof of funds first?
@@jabbaweezy No ,as long as we have a work order signed, if you don't pay we put a lien on your car
He better start selling his booty so he can get the money back.
he’s going to have to sell his house if he owns one to pay everyone back
@Jonathan-pr1wo or take a mortgage out on it. But he's gonna have to do a lot lol.
Damn, what a crazy timeline.. how is this guy not getting hit by many lawsuits?
i dont ask people to pay untill its done
i hate that you and mike are so far man. im in nc. warranty, no pay up front and a gated location for security so no ones cars get damaged or stolen parts. and a quick turn around time. like 3 moths max for a all over going down to metal and all. theres good shops out there man.
