I really wish Etsy would crack down on the mass produced resellers!! Their draw is for handmade goods and it's frustrating to sift through the junk.

Yeah, absolutely! In some categories, it's honestly mostly junk at this point :/

Great video! Item descriptions can also be a good way to spot mass-produced/fast-fashion product resellers. Small creators often have very detailed item descriptions or they'd add personal touches to their texts. :) Not saying everybody does that, but it is often the case.

Thought this topic was important, especially as many are trying to purchase gifts more ethically this holiday season! If you have any favorite Etsy shops (or own one yourself), feel free to drop the name below in this thread + describe what it is!

Great video! If I may add another context clue to help determine if the item is genuinely handmade: Does the seller take custom orders? By this I do NOT mean embroidering/engraving names on otherwise cookie-cutter products (there are a lot of mass-produced companies that do that too) I mean things like changing the fabric, color, size, pattern, etc to suit the buyer's specifications. Keep in mind, some legitimate artisans don't take custom orders for a variety of reasons, so don't automatically rule them out if they don't, but if they DO then that's a very good sign!

I make stickers from my art and although I wish my sticker paper was sustainable (I have to buy it on Amazon because that's the only place I can find it :(. ) Thank you for this video!

I totally understand that Amazon can be hard to avoid! Have you tried looking up the company that makes the paper (maybe they have their own site)? Is eBay a possibility? No pressure or anything, just tossing out ideas :)

I don't have tik tok but you should repost them on insta reels!

Will do! Unfortunately, some of them are too long for reels, and too short for IGTV, but I'll try to repost the ones that do work! :)

What do you think of artists selling things like pins and washi tape when they did make the design, but not the physical object? Does it depend on what company they outsourced their products from?

Great question! Etsy does count those items as "handmade" too. Like you said, I think it depends on where they sourced the products. There's no harm in asking them if you're not sure!
