@@TheInfamousLegend27 well i just assumed since there are tons of youtubers reviewing the analogue making it feel like the the modded handhelds are being pushed into the shadows. 😔
Saw the thumbnail and thought the ultimate mod was just removing the buttons lmao, this is actually a really cool mod!! Didn't expect it to do the cool custom stuff, awesome video :]
This is why I love this channel. Elliot does this stuff at an affordable cost so he puts many people in consideration with his modding videos. When I mod my gbc I’m DEFINITELY gonna come back to this video. Thanks Elliot!
I really love the improvements of the new screen(especially the lens being against the screen itself, allowing for zero dust to sneak in) just wish they made a non led gbc logo for folks who prefer it to look as authentic as possible.
Hey Elliot! Love the gameboy you just made! One quick advice though, move the touch sensor out of the infrared leds if you plan to use it, it fits anywhere on top of the shell :)
i like how considerate you are about the pricing. some people just hype products up through the roof then make it sound like you're not actually a fan if you can't afford it.
I've customized 2 GBC's for myself. The first has a glow in the dark shell, with a backlit screen, and the 2nd is based off of the translucent Neo Geo Pocket Color with blue buttons. Also has a backlit screen! Really proud of myself, and how they both came out!
I was considering of customizing one myself, how difficult is to reassemble one? I called my local retro game shop to do it for me but they stopped customizing them
@@PurplePhantom4 Personally, I would say the GBC is the easiest handheld to take apart, and put back together. Please be aware however dealing with Nintendo video game consoles, and handhelds requires a "tri-wing" screwdriver. They use those "specialty" screws in about all of the consoles and handhelds I've ever seen them make. Other than that, a Philips head screwdriver is your best friend.
This was one of the first videos of yours I have ever seen (the first was oddly enough the virtual boy one) and now a year later I watch all you latest videos and and am actually modding a gameboy pocket inspired by this gameboy color. I’m doing all white with a stunning ips screen. I hope to put light up buttons in it someday but for now I don’t have the money for that. I just want to say how much I love your videos and how much they have inspired me to go out of my comfort zone and get into electronics, and I can’t even express how much my life has changed for the better from what your videos have inspired me to do!
I remember when ben venn first figured out how to jank a ags 101 replacement screen to work for the gameboy color pcb. It was awesome, and I thought that we had reached the backlight color screen pinnacle, but now? This is amazing, and so easy that anyone can do it. The fact that we had custom shells that don't need any special modding to fit parts is just a testament to the popularity of gameboy modding. It is only getting bigger.
I’m particularly not a fan of the lit up buttons, at least in this case because the shell is white, other than that the screen and functionalities look amazing
Showed this to my parents because they had the gameboy when they were my age. They said that if ips displays and all these battery mods happened in their time, it would’ve been revolutionary.
I got my screen coming in this week actually and I just bought myself a new ts100 soldering iron especially for modding it, so this video could not have been uploaded at a more perfect time :) Many greetings from Holland!
WOW that thing looks amazing. I watch Gameboy modding videos quite a bit so I thought it was just another shell upgrade with a new (but smaller) screen. But the light up buttons made me like "oooo pretty" XD and of course that screen looks amazing.
Excellent mods that are available, even that shell that accommodates them are very nice but I also appreciate the fact that you can still use good 'ol AAs.
This might be the nicest replacement screen I've seen yet. Does it have any pixel ghosting issues? I really like it when they have realistic original screen pixel lines.
Amazing. Beautiful. What about "the ultimate hand held device"? All the top mods and all functions. Something like that. Good job as always. Thanks for your contribution.
Fun fact, did you know 3M stands for Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company? Thats the US state I grew up in. Every winter night, they lit up their corporate HQ to look like a Christmas tree.
Funnyplaying also has a button led mod and theirs has the ability to change led colors, has option for breathing animation and rbg color shift, can be turned off and offers start and select solder points for the laminated ips kit
Just a heads up to anyone wanting to do this specific project that lives in the US, they can't ship that screen here 🙁 you can still get one of the other screens, but this particular one with the changeable logo is unavailable to US residents. Real bummer, I've done the GBA and SP mods, and this looked like a really cool one to tackle for my first GBC because that screen is so unique. Either way, thanks as always for the great vid Elliot, hope you and Freya get better soon ✌️
Damn this scene has come such a long way, I am thoroughly convinced that we have been in cahoots with Game Boy loving extraterrestrials or something lol. I remember watching this very same video a year or two ago thinking “this is it, we’ve peaked”. Now I’m sitting here with my touch screen OLED GBC thinking “ok what’s next?”. Love this scene so much
Ooh really? Do you know which contact points you used? the visible wires are a bummer for me. By the way, any trouble with the touch sensor? Did you get the long thin one or the little one? Mine not working at all :/
Instead of silly logo color, they should add things that matters, like frame blending to avoid blinking that makes some games unplayable, or color tunes, they are totally blown out. I don't recommend this screen after using it for a year
Elliot, never give up dont let covid hold you back, cause i love your videos and i want to watch your videos everyday. P. S, THAT GAMEBOY LOOKS AWESOMEEE!!. ITS so good when i watch people fix, mod my childhood toy 🥰
I will never ever tire of watching Elliot give new life to Game Boys. It isn't just a piece of hardware, it was someone's escape, a doorway to a million worlds, a child's Christmas wish. It was the little engine that could, and kept going, while all the portable competitors fell by the wayside.
Pro tip for the people who are having trouble with an unresponsive touch sensor, i've swapped mine out for thicc piece of copper plate attached to a wire (just a hammered down piece of thick copper wire folded over) and now it works flawlessly
I can confirm this is the best GBC mod ! Top notch screen ! I have issues however with the start button, very hard to press... I think I have to use a file or whatever to enlarge button hole a little bit.
I must say, I liked your early videos, but the difference between the terrified looking youngster sticking with a ridged and monotone speech has transformed into a relaxed, confident, natural communicator. Pleasure to watch your videos.
That's a sexy Game Boy! You're gonna slam it into some resin, right? Jokes aside, I think these things are cool but I'm happy just watching folks like you show them off while I play everything on my 3DS lol
Cool mod, I have the funny playing one, that screen really is beautiful... edit: funnily enough, mine was the cyan GBC pre-mod too! Though the replacement case is translucent atomic purple.
I LOVE the gbc and it was my first handheld, but man, it's not ergonomic friendly in any way and that's the number one thing I need to play video games as an adult. Glad it's getting its moment with the analog release, but I'd personally rather have a modded gba
This is awesome. For me, the analogue pocket loses the nastalgia for me, because it doesn't look like an original gameboy. I like this modded gameboy much better!
The prices for GBC is crazy now, even in Japan. Unless you buy tons of stuff to make the shipping worth it, it's really hard to get anything under 50 or 60 dollars with the shipping. Most pre-modded GBC you'll find online will also cost pretty much the same price as an Analogue pocket. (if you can wait to get it normaly) Considering the big gap in quality between the Analogue and the Funnyplaying products, if you start from scratch and are patient, the Analogue really starts to shine. But if you already have your old GBC, this upgrade is already pretty amazing :)
I'm still waiting for the replacement display that funny playing sent me. The kit I ordered came with a defective display. But once that arrives, I'm going to absolutely fall in love with my GBC.
great vid and mod. keeping everything stock and just changing the screen would have been good enough for me seems like the more you are taking out and swapping with new components you are better off just getting the analogue pocket or something else.
I have covid.
I won’t let it stop me making videos. Stay tuned as I’ll be doing an ultimate build for all of the GameBoys.
Love you all x
Sorry to hear. Stay strong and hope you feel better soon!
Take care of yourself and don't force yourself too much -
Oh no! Get well soon, Elliot! 💪🏼
Get well soon
Feel better soon
As much as I like the Analogue nothing will beat modding old Gameboys and giving them new life
agreed
Huh, i thought everyone would move away from modding
@@kr4t0sg.28 nothing beats an original console i’m afraid
@@kr4t0sg.28 it would be sick to live in a world where Analog can produce enough pockets for that to be possible 😙

First
This is Elliot going back to his roots of restoring and modding gameboys tbh
Everywhere I go this dude comments something I swear 😂
I thought that the buttons were just touch sensors. Impractical, but sexy as hell/
Me too, this looks sick man.
This Atari Lynx mod is impressive
Yep that's definitely an Atari lynx 😂😂😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣💀💀💀
This is on my wishlist now, what a beaut. Cheers mate.

Hello Elliot!! This model became a real amazing work of art. I am now waiting to see the GBA and GBA SP 2022 versions.

I really like the funnier more confident mood of your videos recently. Hope life is treating you well. Great review as always.
Finally back to the core content! I really hope you do them all! Loved this one, only seen photos of this config before, it was even better with film!
Showed this to my parents because they had the gameboy when they were my age. They said that if ips displays and all these battery mods happened in their time, it would’ve been revolutionary.
DAYM THE CASE IS SOOO CLEAN
One day I'll find the courage to attempt this myself... Beautiful work! Your channel is an inspiration.
Godspeed hope it all goes well
Ngl if you have some basic soldering skills this is a real easy beginner mod. Give it a try
I feel the same exact way!
I have done this mod to my old childhood gameboy, and I absolutely love it! This and a flash cart is the best way to play gbc games for me!
recently done this mod myself its awesome and now my daily for playing all of my gameboy library
Best one yet, it's amazing to see how far the mods (and you!) have gotten over the years :)
I got my screen coming in this week actually and I just bought myself a new ts100 soldering iron especially for modding it, so this video could not have been uploaded at a more perfect time :)
Many greetings from Holland!
This job is awesome, you have covid, but you can still do your work, doing your childhood stuff. Amazing.
This was such a beautifully crafted mod and the video made it feel so easy loved it. 🙏
I think this is my red pill video, I’m getting gear and I’m going to start modding. Thank you so much.
Thanks for making videos Elliot, you inspired me and motivates me to mod and fix my old gameboys. Get well soon and I'll pray for your fast recovery.
The Game Boy Color was my first handheld over 20 years ago and it's so nice to see there are now many mods for it and a community keeping it alive.
Oh i remember your channel! i saw it a year or two ago and you had way fewer subs, good too see you are growing! you deserve it.
my only issue with this type of screen mod is that if u scratch the lens and want to replace it u need to replace the whole screen.
What helps with your con is having a glass display instead of a plastic one on the original. Then again, not as drop resistant!
You can get the osd version 1, has less options than the newer one but it has a normal replaceable lens
Your music choice is always spot on.
love this video. your modding/restoration vids are always my favorite
Thanks so much for this video! I just completed my own screen upgrade and I'm super pleased with the results!
Please do more videos like this. I’ve missed this and it’s the whole reason I fell in love with your channel. Great video 😁😁😁
A big hats off to the people who made those circuits and even added so many useful features!!!
4th-gen iPod vibes. Love it!
Yeah the button mod looks nice but I think if it were me I'd do a rechargable battery mod and the speaker/amp upgrade mod
Oh yeah, back to the roots, nice video !

Elliot has consistently been the best in the game, boy!
Wow! That is an amazing new mod design of a Gameboy. You did a great job to surprise the Gameboy community

I did a Funnyplaying screen a few weeks ago. You can do the start and select buttons higher on the board, and hide the wires behind the screen.
Ooh really? Do you know which contact points you used? the visible wires are a bummer for me.
By the way, any trouble with the touch sensor? Did you get the long thin one or the little one? Mine not working at all :/
That looks so slick 😎
Stay safe and get well.
I would love one of these gameboys. My hand cannot hold a console that small anymore though.
Holy aesthetics 🤩 what an absolutely stunning build.

@2:30 anyone else childish enough to be laughing at the test pad name for right? 😂
Slick as all hell! Defo doing these mods to my crusty old GBC
It looks so clean and nice... I can't with white myself, but its does look pristine as it is....
“first, to mod a gameboy, we need one of these. an atari lynx!”
hmm
Woah this looks amazing!! :O I'd love one!
This is tidy as hell, so good with the white case. Might tempt me away from my beloved 90s ass clear shell 💖
Nice mod work! I like the white aesthetic.

Best Atari Lynx video on TH-cam.
"I wanna keep the price down as much as possible with this model" *install a light mode for the buttons. Looks cool indeed!
I actually got a analogue pocket first, and I love it, but original gbc modding looks really appealing to me suddenly.
I have to try this! Awesome looking mod!
Personally I would rather have the original Gameboy hardware modded. Nostalgia is a powerful thing. Great vid as always!
as much as i LOOOOOVE this build.... i wont be able to keep it that clean forever

Looks great, but personally I still don't see the point of light-up buttons at all. Just draws more power and is distracting.
Yeah, it’s not like it’s hard to find the button positions, especially when you’re used it it.
Feel better Elliot! I did this same comparison in my latest video. Nice job! Love that laminated GBC display. :)
