Oh dude.. I had completely forgotten that this was in development, so I didn’t catch on right away what I was looking at in that trailer. But when it finally hit me.. the hype took over hard. It was one of those unforgettable e3 moments for me.
Regarding the blue herbs, it can be used as a preventative resource. Mixed with a red herb it'll give you a "shield" for a few minutes, that lowers the damage received. Can be useful for tough parts or bossfights. Add in a green herb and it also fully heals. That shield halves the enemy damage, so instead of Birkin killing you in 2-3 hits, it'll be 5-6. Considering the tougher enemies and bosses in the last third, makes sense to have it. It also removes posion and gives you poison resistence. But only the G mutants in the sewers have poison attack. If you can dodge them or have defense items, you'll never get poisoned.
Yeah those G+R+B herbs are lifesavers for boss fights especially on the highest difficulty. I was able to get the S+ Rank on Claire A solely because I stockpiled the triple herb combo every chance I got
yeah personally I mostly used the blue herbs for their shield effect, sometimes I would be out of green herbs at half health and just use a blue-red combination to tank through the given corridor or whatever
First encounter Birkin's a cakewalk even on the hardest difficulty. Bring all of your knives (save'em), hug his eyeball shoulder and stab him until he goes down. If he grabs you, stab him. Rinse and repeat.
My best friend got RE2 for his birthday, and of course I stayed the night to play it with him. He didn't have a memory card, so we were trying to beat the game in a single playthrough. I still remember, there was a thunderstorm that night that really added to the scare factor. Great game, great remake!
there is actually some benefits to accurate shooting of the zombie's heads. its not a 100% garantee, but if you're standing still with the crossairs fully focused, you get a higher chance of an instakill headshot. it actually started happening to me a lot when I started holding it back longer before shooting, like the longer the crossairs are fully focused the more that chance goes up. also you can dismember the zombies, I often just hit them with 2-3 shots to the knee and their leg breaks off, causing them to crawl and be confused for long enough to run past them
6:34 I found that headshots could stun zombies and then I’d just run past a lot of the time, and there’s also the chance you’ll get a critical hit where their head explodes.
knifing their legs and making them drop and then just running away is how to play resident evil 2... conserve ammo, this ain't Doom. that's the whole point of RE, item management.
I'll never forget playing RE2 (original) for the first time with my little brother. Neither of us knew the controls, so it took us several tries just to make it to Kendo's. About a quarter of the way into the remake, I realized the best strat with the zombies is to just take out their legs and knife them until they stay down 2:57 The original game had FOUR scenarios: Leon A/B; Claire A/B, each of which felt unique and interconnected. What you did in A affected B, and Leon and Claire's B modes differed from their A modes, so you could play the game four different times and have a different experience each time. RE2make barely even had two scenarios, and they were narratively disjointed.
This was the first RE game I ever played and boy, I am glad I picked it up. It is may favorite, even more so than RE4Remake. The balance between combat, puzzles and exploration is spot on. It has some great horror, but unlike RE7,i t does not overly focus on it, making it flow better with the rest of the game. And the zombies... while I understand that they are bullet spongy, they are IMHO excellently done. They are dangerous, if slow, and a player is never quite sure whether they come back up or not, increasing tension. And there are multiple ways to deal with them: 1. Avoid, 2. Shoot legs only. 3 Kill them, all of which have their merits, especially once you add Mr. X into the mix. Game is AT LEAST 9/10.
You should check out Parasite Eve (the first one), and as a late tribute to Akira Toriyama might want to take a crack at Chrono Trigger. They are two critical pieces of classic gaming, the Rinker’s Retro Reviews…! And, Legends of Dragoon has a pretty awesome combat mechanic
Could have been perfect... But removing the mirrored/paired scenario A/B function was a shortcut that they didn't need to take. And you miss it so much when you realise that scenarios 1/2 and A/B have basically no difference, outside of a train battle at the end.
I'm still thankful I own my N64 copy of the original RE2. Flawed it may be, but it's unique. I mainly play the original RE2 on either my Dreamcast or Gamecube these days, but pop in the N64 version every now and then.
i sold mine years ago. having a physical copy of an older video game is pretty worthless these days. even my most favorite titles, i sold them. they're only worth the sentiment you give to them.
@@watchmehope6560 Those are nowhere near as important to hold this incredible survival horror game back. RE2 remake is incredible and does a whole lot better than the og
Blue and red herbs give you a shield and make you faster. Enemies are finite unless they’re coming through the bottom floor windows. So you board those up. Only specific windows allow zombies to come through. So you have to block those windows. Which makes it much easier and less ammo to be wasted. The game is MUCH easier than the original. But still a blast! I loved it.
6:30 in the video. My response is that head shots with a pistol can kill with a single shot if you hit the brain itself. Most times when the zombies move around your bullet will end up hitting their face or jaw but you have to go straight to the dome to really put it to sleep, this adds more of a challenge to aiming with accuracy. I love this game.
Anyone else still hoping Capcom looks through the controversy and remakes Resident Evil 5? It will be awesome to see a future review from Drinker! With all the new reviews of RE5, I decided to buy the game to try it out. I loved RE4, so I'm hoping for the best! Anyways, great review, Drinker! Anyway, that's all I have for today, go away now!
Part of me wants to believe they will. Part of me also remembers Capcom is scared of panties and skirts when it comes to RE for some reason. Giving all the women skorts or pants. So who knows.
I honestly don't think Japanese developers give a flying fuck about western cancel culture or being ridiculously PC. I think the change in female outfits for the remakes was more of a design choice to add a more grounded and realistic look/feel to the games. Also it's worth noting you can still access the original outfits if you do choose. I definitely think the RE5 remake is going to be awesome. Looking forward to the updated "Indiana Jones meets Resident Evil" vibe.
Code Veronica would have a lot more new value to offer as a remake. RE5 would be merely an ambitious remaster unless they revamp everything about it, and I'm not too keen on being stuck with co-op to get the intended experience. I only ever played RE5 once because of it when I had the opportunity for co-op, since the AI bot is useless.
Critical hit chance is increased when the crosshair is zero'd in, essentially a gamble for a head pop, where shooting the legs impairs zombie movement or stuns them. There is also a weird and difficult to work mechanic where zombies that grab the character at 90 degrees can be escaped if you are running for some reason.
I just played this remake last week for the first time, despite being an old time fan of the franchise from RE 1 to code veronica ( hated 4 onward). damn I regret not having played it sooner. fantastic remake almost as good as resident evil 1 remake on gamecube.
Not to be a dick, I'm genuinely curious, are you one of the maybe 10 people who hated the OG RE4? I ask because RE4 got me into Resident Evil and is one of the greatest games ever made, so I'm interested in the opinions of detractors of it.
@@dakotashomaker8812the puzzles became simple / easy and without punishment for messing up, and I always thought the movement was off for essentially an action horde shooter. I don't hate the game, had fun with it actually, but don't think it holds a candle to remake 1 for instance. For those that loved the original games, 4 was the game that changed what they loved so much, which is gonna have an effect too. Different folks, different strokes 😉
@@dakotashomaker8812 I totally understand. Don't get me wrong aswell, it is a great game judging by the Resident Evil Community standards. It's just wasn't made for me. It felt more like an Horror/action game rather than a survival / horror game, which was what I really loved from the early resident evil. Every bullet counted the first time you played the game. Also the game was a bit more grounded and realistic in its narrative and character development / design. I will probably blame Code Veronica for starting that trend with alfred asford being a bit too caricatural which then started to become the normality with subsequent games ( salazar in Resident Evil 4 being unsuforable for me ahah ). I also wasn't a big fan of the art direction of the game with its Brown / yellow tone which every game of the following generation of console would start adopting.
These are all pretty fair criticisms. I had only played bits and pieces of RE1 before playing 4 on GameCube. I think the primary reason I had, and have, such a difficult time enjoying the original 3 are the tank controls. Few things make me angrier than tank controls, which is why I never git into the OG Silent Hill games either, another remake I'm REALLY looking forward to.
@@dakotashomaker8812 tank controls can be a bugger to get used to, feels great when you do. Thing with that is the enemies, and game in general is built around not very manoeuvrable characters. You know OG RE4 is basically tank controls with the ability to view each side without turning Leon - tank controls on a stick always got me 😅 Still, I really missed that red dot sight in the remake!
It's a fairly decent remake... definitely a better take on the original than whatever happened with RE3R, for sure. That being said, despite falling short of the mark in many ways... it did manage to elevate things. I wish they had kept the scenarios intact but... I guess one can't have the damn cake AND eat it. My thumbs up goes to the 4th Survivor scenario.
I have to strongly disagree on two points here: 1- Free aim DOES have gameplay importance. Shooting at a zombie's head deals normal damage, but there's a chance to deal critical damage and outright blow its head. So, if you gamble or you think yourself skilled enough you aim for the head, because a critical hit will save you many bullets. Also, shooting a zombie's knee will make it stumble, giving you the chance to run past him even in tight spaces, so while not killing him you'll save more bullets and healing items. Furthermore, as a pro tip, if you got a knife and stumbled a zombie, go ahead and cut out its leg with the knife, you might kill him and save more ammo, or make it way less dangerous. Finally, Claire's acid rounds are great for regular zombies because the acid makes them lose their limbs, great for dealing with crowds of them. So, THERE IS gameplay importance to free aiming, even more with the bosses that clearly have specific weak spots. 2-The lab does provide way less healing items, but it is the final area of the game. It's supposed to be tough, and you're supposed to be rewarded from being cautious and conservative. While the Lab doesn't provide a lot of healing items, it does give a LOT of ammo and secondary weapons. Furthermore, the Lab gives healing items in important places so it is not unfair: You can take the risk and pick up the blue, red, and green herbs in the greenhouse area to create a full heal with enhanced defense. There is a healing spray on the Lab boss fight, and there is another healing spray right before the escape sequence and final boss. Blue herbs are not useless, they serve more than just poison antidote, if you mix them with red herbs they can enhance defense (very useful in hardcore difficulty). The fact that someone gets too much to spare means that they weren't thoughtful with their mixing or that they didn't played that well and spend a lot of full heals.
I wasn't even a huge Resident Evil fan, I'd previously dipped my toes in here and there a little but for whatever reason couldn't quite get into the series the way others seemingly have. That all changed for me with Res 2 Remake. Everything from the beautifully detailed explorable environment and creepy atmosphere, to the puzzles and getting constantly stalked through much of it by Mr X. I fell in love with the game and somewhat the series overall. I'm gutted they screwed up the Remake of 3 but at least GOG are re-releasing the original 3rd entry for those of us who missed it back in the day...
The original RE2 was the game that got me into horror RPGs. I came home late night from work and a friend was hanging out playing it. He was maybe an hour in, I asked to play and played nonstop into the next morning until I beat it. Was absolutely hooked. One of the best games ever!
I have countless amazing memories of RE2's OG scuffed graphics, which at the time looked incredible. It's been a while since I finished a game, and then went straight back in to try do it faster and better for unlocks.
I love this game, I can’t count how many times I’ve played through it and it’s still as good on each playthrough, Capcom really nailed it with the modern games. I’d love to see the first one get this treatment
Headshots pay off when you get a crit, whereas if you're shooting another body part when you get that random critical hit, you can take a limb off or take more of their health. Also avoiding them is pretty simple if you turn and run when they lunge, though less simple when there's a crowd, lickers, and / or Mr X. Knee or foot shots can be your best friend, and the shotgun. Always love a shotgun. I thought the balance of the combat was good 🙂
I personally am of the mindset that Resident Evil 2 REmake is fantastic. It's Capcom firing on all cylinders and it is definitely in the upper eschelon of RE games. Top 3 probably, but in the top 5 bare minimum. Could it have been more? Could Leon and Claire's campaigns have intertwined more and had more definite effects on the 2nd scenario playthrough? Sure, it could have. That being said, I consider us consumers lucky to have gotten something as good as this. We got a faithful RE2 REmake in 2019, that looks amazing, ditches the awkard parts of the original, offers a variety of quality of life improvements, all the while not sacrificing the core formula of the original game. Don't even get me started on Mr. X, or the fact that they made us actually feel for Marvin! No need to wonder about how much better it could have been, because what we got was phenomenal!
Mr x is something I always hated but replaying the remake I learned to love the element of him chasing you and it’s a cat and mouse scenario. Also, major points for changing his entrance. Picking up that helicopter and revealing himself was very surprising and frightening
14:20 The transition of Clairs Character Arc was explained in Code Veronica but Capcom doesn't want to remake CV for some reasons. wich is making new RE fans confused.
In regards to to free aiming. Headshots are more likely to stun and give critical hits that one hit kill. Leg shots also stun zombies and can lead to dismembering legs to cripple a zombie and aiming for the chest is the best way to get consistent damage without missing.
So, Capcom basically created a LA simulator. The only differences being that the shambling corpses here look a little bit better than they do in real life and when the city goes up in nuclear fire it's an actual tragedy. Other than that? Seems pretty spot-on to me. In all seriousness, great video Drinker, you magnificent maestro of media entertainment
Resident Evil is one of the more unique zombie series in my opinion. The usage of inventory management, very limited resources, and unique casts of characters make each game (except RE6, that weird Umbrella Spec Ops thing, and the RE3 Remake) a wild experience. My first game in the series was RE4, after that the only other one I had tried was Code Veronica and both games were fantastic.
played it 3 times a couple years ago, loved it. it got me into the series. i played 4 (2005) and just played 1 and i'll continue to play more, new and original. it's not /perfect/ but it's a great game. it was the first game in long time i stayed up till sunrise to finish and continue all day doing a replay. 6:31 it helps to shoot the legs i saw you do it later in the video, you can stagger or cripple them and run past. it's not perfect, crawlers are still dangerous but it beats wasting handgun ammo. if you need to kill one, apply shotgun/magnum to head. also, lickers are blind. you can walk quietly past them. i leave the ones in the police station alone and burn the ones in the lab, saves a ton of ammo. i play like a neurotic pack rat, liked the adaptive difficulty punishing me for resources and really *really* enjoyed how boss fights are set up to hemorrhage resources. it felt like the game was inside my head
I can't decide which is more of a masterpiece RE2R or RE4R. They are both just so different. I might give the nod to RE4R just because it so much longer and has a ridiculously good DLC expansion for only $10.
This is my favorite RE game so far. I LOVED RE2 Remake almost more than the original game. If it's too easy....I recommend Hardcore difficulty where you take more damage, get less ammo, no auto-saves and you can only save with ink ribbons.
You should sooo review/Play spec ops: the line. Can't say anything more than it's a secret master piece. Super under apricated, yet all people who have played it have come out with a deep appreciation for it. It's a master class of some kind of story telling for sure.
There was a fixed camera angle mod that was recently released a few months back and its honestly a completely new way to play and experience this remake. Highly recommend to fans of OG RE games or those who love RE series but want a new experience. Def give it a look!
"What's the point of being able to shoot different body parts?" You can take their limbs off and headshots can result in a critical insta-kill or give you enough leeway to evade them. I didn't start getting this down until playthrough three or four but it's actually fantastic
I saw there's a mod available that forces the isometric perspectives of the original game, so you can play it with this modern engine but with the same direction and mostly-static backgrounds (now rendered in 3D) as the original game. With that mod, this game has become worth playing. The behind the shoulder style camera perspective that Resident Evil adopted with the Resident Evil 4 game was the worst thing that happened to the series and I stopped playing the games at that point. It worked for the Resident Evil Revelations game on 3DS but I look at all these games as spin offs like Resident Evil Survivor and Resident Evil Dead Aim.
7:20 This was the reason I couldn't complete this game. No bullets + Enemies like lickers + Huge Boss that shoves half a burning helicopter like a kind pedestrian = Yeah... I'm good 👍🏾😅
I personally didn't have any issues with healing items. First play through was much harder to evade getting attacked but all other play throughs are pretty simple.

I bet you they did that as a minimal way to appease the damn publisher but so many casuals want to be the first to ring of reactions that they don’t even consider that. Its just more hate bandwagoning for clicks and ppl looking for sometimes hint to watch who tend to gravitate to outrage content rather than something informative or entertaining for entertainment sake whether happy sad comedic action etc instead the clicks are found in over exaggerated outrage and ppl like some of you fall for it and even feed into it making the hate bandwagon snowball into an even bigger “internet breaking” fiasco when in actuality like the gender neutral bathrooms …… some of this shit while being annoying has no true effect on the game or stories we play and serves as a way to expose these grifters who truly don’t have opinions, thoughts, content ideas of their own; in my opinion . Now don’t get me wrong in some cases I totally get it and it’s warranted like the protag of the upcoming fable, or the blonde chick who doesn’t even look like an actual woman in last of us 2 …. So I would seriously encourage ppl to think first man and actually be a bit wiser when picking and choosing these “issues” to blow up and “break the net” I’m just saying cuz we are causing a lot of ppl jobs and future careers by harping on shit that was probably mandated by the publisher rather than the devs themselves in most cases. But who am I man just some guy that’s been observing and partaking in the gaming industry and social media for over 15 years so don’t mind me I’m the outlier here I’m sure but those who are sensible and not always subconsciously searching for a place to belong will see what I mean even if it’s not fully grasped I’m sure
I played this game for the first time about 2 weeks ago. I’ve never played a resident evil game before. I did my first playthrough as Leon and loved that Clare popped up every now and then. So I was excited to play as Clare to see how the hell she ended up in some places. So Imagine my disappointment when Clare just swapped places with Leon in her campaign. That meant I knew all the puzzles and layouts. It took me about 8 hours to finish Leon but only 4 and a bit hours to finish Clare’s. And from there the time had only gotten quicker
14:36 I thought the same on my first playthrough, but when I replayed the game, knowing she wasn't FBI, I actually thought she was doing this "I know much more" on purpose, to disguise her real self. Like she's pretending to be an asshole, because that's what a fed would be like.
I think you should livestream the RE2 remake with the fixed camera mod on PC. It's cool way to experience the remake and proves Capcom wrong that it is impossible to do the fixed cameras. It works surprisingly well.
The reasons you criticize it are what make it a great game. Tight hallways, low health/ammo resources, slow moving character etc. Remove any or all of the those elements and the game becomes just a zombie shooter.
A great game made even better by mods, such as the recent fixed camera mod, the first person mod and especially the rando! Makes this already amazing game fresh and new each and every time you boot it up!
Great review, loved the original games. But I couldn't get into the remakes. mainly because Mr X scared the shit out of me. Maybe I'll give it another try.
As you speak about zombies requiring 4-5 bullets in the head you kill them with 2-3 in the video🤔 I noticed there's also a small chance of critical hit after which head explodes.
The original RE2 had a lot more ammo lying around, whereas ammo in the remake feels very scarce by comparison. This isn't helped by the fact that you really have no idea how many rounds it will take to down a zombie even if you only do critical shots on the head. It could be 1, it could be 5, it's like playing roulette. I don't really hate the scarcity of ammo, but it really feels like I'm shooting an airsoft gun most of the time. I wish the guns felt more impactful to go along with the lower ammo availability; one thing I noticed was that it was more efficient to shoot at the knees on regular zombies to slow them down. It's not as satisfying as getting one of those amazing critical headshots but it does work.
@@GangsterFrankensteinComputer Not only does it make the enemies super tanky and annoying, but it also makes the environments feel more empty because it quite literally is less filled with enemies, whether that be zombies, crows, spiders, etc. There is just less going on
The mini gun and infinite launcer is so fun on this game. You also can get Chris Redfield's automatic with infinite ammo.. but it fires too fast and 30 rounds seem to go to the ether.. lol
I’m waiting for this one too. These last few game review videos seem like he pulled them out of the archive, because they match the vocal tone of more of his older videos. Still great reviews!
One of the best remakes in general, not just in the past years. The only other I've played that were similar in quality in my opinion were RE4 and Dead Space. Those also capture what the original was, but improve on it in my opinion.
I played the remake with Leon (first run) and Claire (2nd run). It doesn't seem to matter like the original RE2 if you play all 4 scenarios to uncover more events/true ending.
I have to disagree with you, the game is ok to good at best, not even close to a perfect remake, the fact that they half-assed a few things alongside cutting content is the reason we've got that lazy RE3R because they though they could get away with it. This game only has a few things over the OG, the OTS (the fixed camera mod puts this in question), the graphics (duh over 20 years of difference) and Mr. X. That's it, that's what the Remake did better than the original, everything else is far superior in the original (no you can't convince me dialogue is better when Claire goes full girlboss on Birkin G3, if this was an older Claire that is experienced on this sure, not RE2 Claire that is facing this for the first time, this alongside how it looks like she wants to bang Leon at all cost no matter if they are in a zombie apocalypse) You also exaggerate on the difficulty, when the start of this game literally holds you by the hand by shoving magical fire that doesn't burn you while also preventing all the zombies from following you into that deserted back alley that leads straight into the RPD while in the original you had to go through the main street, Kendo's shop, back alley, main street, bus until you get to the RPD, all of those areas infested with zombies. The result is that you feel like if the RPD is dangerous in the OG, who knows what kind of horrors are around on the streets, meanwhile in the Remake you feel like the RPD is easily the most dangerous place of the city and you are a complete moron by trying to seek refuge there when the large streets of Racoon city make evading monsters piece of cake. Doesn't help once you exit the RPD again and there's huge empty streets that allow you to easily evade enemies... Also accuracy is rewarded, try shooting a leg and evade rather than emptying a whole clip, running away is still a very viable option, even more in this game where you have more control over your movement and vision. Also blue herbs give damage reduction aside from healing poison, during boss fights consuming a B+G+R herbs not only heals you as it makes you more resilient to hits. Then stuff like the butchered B scenario, you don't need to play 4 times on the Remake, the OG? Sure, the Remake you just need to play each once and it's better to play both on the A scenario since you get both characters interacting with Marvin while B scenario just cuts that and doesn't do anything to compensate that since it's the exact same campaign with a different start and a different pistol that uses different ammo. Like you said there's basically no interactions between both campaigns and there's no impact like how in the OG you could leave either a gun or the backpack for scenario B making it easier but harder on A, or take both making it harder for B or just take one of them. You also get the same bosses no matter what, OG would give you different bosses for each scenario but the Remake you get the same ones no matter what. Leon will never be able to fight Birkin G4 and Claire will never be able to fight the Super Tyrant something that was possible in the OG. There also less enemy variety, no crows or spiders or moth from the top of my head (plant zombies replaced Ivys so 1 is replacing the other) and like you said less areas. Which is crazy because OG RE2 was rushed due to the RE1.5 incident, the Remake had over 20 years to improve upon RE2 and still was clearly more rushed than a game where halfway they scrapped the whole game and made a new one... At the very least bring the Manspiders from RE1.5. The OST is also far superior in the OG, the exceptions are Mr. X theme, Super Tyrant Theme and Hunk's Theme. This is not nostalgia talking there are some serious issues here that pretty graphics can't cover. If someone launched the OG RE2 with modern graphics the Remake would look like a pathetic joke next to it.
headshots allows you to get critical hits giving you a percentage chance to pop zombie heads. it still saves bullets. there's other points in this review as well where he gives off negative remarks on stuff but it's really just the lack of testing. He didn't fact check, and he went on to say things are the way they were when he should have said it's how he experienced the game.
I wish when they did the remake they made it so you could play the original version of the game and the remake ... also about the aim .. when the crosshair shrinks you have a higher chance at a critical hit which will reduce the amount of shots you will need to take and obviously when its wider it does normal damage
RE2 remake was better than RE2. It was a tad harder for sure, so had more strategy too. What to fight, what to kneecap, what to board up. The lickers in the late lab were kind of tough. Agreed Leon and Claire cross-over was lacking, Claire likes Leon in the original more.
Well the free aiming is there so you can shoot the legs so they fall down and start crawling which makes runing past a piece of cake. Or shoot theor legs and then finish them with the knife, saving ammo and killing the zombie. Most efficent way to fight imo.
RE2 and RE7 really revitalized CAPCOM after than we had the excellent DMC 5 - CAPCOM unfortunately farmed out RE3 to a sub contract studio and the result was a good looking but very short pedestrian game. After that CAPCOM took control again and we got the excellent RE Village and the best game yet: RE4 remake. RE2 Remake really got me hooked again on these games - seeing the Police Station again in modern graphics, the lickers, Mr X, the puzzles - just a treat. If you haven't played it you can get RE2 Remake cheap now on most stores so stop what you are doing and F'ing play it!
The best thing Capcom did with this remake was Mr. X. Hearing those footsteps around the police station still gives me anxiety.
He got too tedious too soon.

yeah personally I mostly used the blue herbs for their shield effect, sometimes I would be out of green herbs at half health and just use a blue-red combination to tank through the given corridor or whatever
i wanted to leave the same comment but you beat me to it
THATS WHY THEY GIVE YOU BLUES IN THE LAB?!?!?! I knew about the poison shield but damn!
I was raised in a cave in Siberia, but we had RE2. It’s Siberia, video games and vodka was all we had to do 8 months of the year.
Sounds good!😁
im not surprised, even in Vanuatu they have super mario bros.
there is actually some benefits to accurate shooting of the zombie's heads. its not a 100% garantee, but if you're standing still with the crossairs fully focused, you get a higher chance of an instakill headshot. it actually started happening to me a lot when I started holding it back longer before shooting, like the longer the crossairs are fully focused the more that chance goes up. also you can dismember the zombies, I often just hit them with 2-3 shots to the knee and their leg breaks off, causing them to crawl and be confused for long enough to run past them
6:34 I found that headshots could stun zombies and then I’d just run past a lot of the time, and there’s also the chance you’ll get a critical hit where their head explodes.
yep, head shots matter, also every boss has a weak point, shooting it does more damage
Funny he didn't even consider shooting them in the leg lol
Nah for me its shooting the leg so they fall down and running past or finishing them with the knife.
knifing their legs and making them drop and then just running away is how to play resident evil 2... conserve ammo, this ain't Doom. that's the whole point of RE, item management.
I'll never forget playing RE2 (original) for the first time with my little brother. Neither of us knew the controls, so it took us several tries just to make it to Kendo's.
About a quarter of the way into the remake, I realized the best strat with the zombies is to just take out their legs and knife them until they stay down
2:57 The original game had FOUR scenarios: Leon A/B; Claire A/B, each of which felt unique and interconnected.
Game is AT LEAST 9/10.
knife legs do not waste bullets on legs to disable them
You should check out Parasite Eve (the first one), and as a late tribute to Akira Toriyama might want to take a crack at Chrono Trigger. They are two critical pieces of classic gaming, the Rinker’s Retro Reviews…! And, Legends of Dragoon has a pretty awesome combat mechanic
I think PE2 would be more to Drinkers taste. Less RPG, more action, fun story. I played the shit out of PE2 and i love it as much as RE2/Remake.
@@Hamzat22yes, but PE 2 was a huge step-down from the original. Plus the original had the more intriguing plot and villain with EVE.
Tell him to ignore the Lost Sanctum
Parasite Eve 2 is amazing, wish they would remake it. I think Drinker has already mentioned he liked it.
My dad was obsessed with parasite Eve back in the PS1 days, I remember him playing that constantly
Did not know this channel existed but now I know you do gaming reviews to oh boy got another binge coming
Could have been perfect... But removing the mirrored/paired scenario A/B function was a shortcut that they didn't need to take. And you miss it so much when you realise that scenarios 1/2 and A/B have basically no difference, outside of a train battle at the end.
If you’re really old school you’d remember RE2 was a double disc and came in a cubed case that opened on both sides!
I like this remake as much as the first. It's a great game. Thanks for your input Drinker!! Much love from the US!!
I'm glad the remake is as good as the original. Great game, drinker. 🎉
Ehh. It's good but it's a shame we didn't get a proper Claire story, and proper classic outfits.
@@watchmehope6560 Those are nowhere near as important to hold this incredible survival horror game back. RE2 remake is incredible and does a whole lot better than the og
Some may not be a big deal but re2r does have flaws just like the original, they are both different but equally good games.
It's nowhere near as good as the original.
Disagree, it's nowhere near as good.
RE4 and 2 remake are my absolute favorites. I hope there’s a modern RE remake that looks and plays like 2 remake
I’d love a remake, I still play through 5 a lot. I liked Sheva, never understood why we haven’t seen her again she was a really cool character
No, because I know they would bend over for the cancel mob and do something idiotic.
You know OG RE4 is basically tank controls with the ability to view each side without turning Leon - tank controls on a stick always got me 😅
Still, I really missed that red dot sight in the remake!
Oh yeah, the 4th survivor was good fun on this, and the different varieties of tofu survivor! Some trickier than others 😂
Great review as usual! Still waiting on the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt review.
I have to strongly disagree on two points here:
1- Free aim DOES have gameplay importance.
Furthermore, the Lab gives healing items in important places so it is not unfair:
You can take the risk and pick up the blue, red, and green herbs in the greenhouse area to create a full heal with enhanced defense.
I keep coming back to this game! I just installed it yesterday. xD Great timing, great video!
I thought the balance of the combat was good 🙂
Brings me back to my childhood. These remakes are fantastic. I’m not holding much hope for silent hill 2 remake though
I enjoy your happy content.
Glad you put them out!
As an RE fan since 2 came out on the playstation. 2 and code veronice are my favs.
Resident evil is probably one of my favorite video game series. Definitely one of my top 3.
Probably my favorite game of all time! Never get tired of playing it
Claire was amazeballs on the _Big Comfy Couch!_
😊😍😋
thanks for the info! i enjoy your reviews 😅
played it 3 times a couple years ago, loved it. it got me into the series. i played 4 (2005) and just played 1 and i'll continue to play more, new and original.
it's not /perfect/ but it's a great game. it was the first game in long time i stayed up till sunrise to finish and continue all day doing a replay.
Very good. Probably my favorite resident evil game.
Spec Ops shows us the horrors of war that aren't normally talked about in entertainment
@@SuperKendoman That is a good way to say it without spoiling it. I would argue though that the less you know the better the experience.
There was a fixed camera angle mod that was recently released a few months back and its honestly a completely new way to play and experience this remake. Highly recommend to fans of OG RE games or those who love RE series but want a new experience. Def give it a look!
Lol it's funny Capcom made a statement long ago saying they couldn't do it. It wasn't possible. They tried. Blah blah.
Just for a modder to do it.
"What's the point of being able to shoot different body parts?" You can take their limbs off and headshots can result in a critical insta-kill or give you enough leeway to evade them. I didn't start getting this down until playthrough three or four but it's actually fantastic
Critical drinker joins gaming reviews
Me: this will be interesting
Dead space remastered is the way to go. A lot of ppl will probably suggest old school shit but hey man good stuff does come out in the modern day too just gotta know who to listen to and where to look lol
Really enjoyed it too. Especially those new gender neutral bathrooms on the Ishimura. 😂
@@peterc3262 Gotta raise the ESG score somehow

@@peterc3262I can't believe people got triggered by that lmao.
@@peterc3262 we need to be real with. Ourselves man. Why tf is that such a huge deal? For fucks sake it’s a game set in outer space shit why tf don’t they have restrooms for aliens female or male then? Like cmon ppl we get it the gender politicking is annoying in entertainment but adding fucking restrooms and never calling attention to them is seriously not as big of a deal as the uglification of female characters in gaming or idk the bitching of male characters in gaming and entertainment . So I would seriously encourage ppl to think first man and actually be a bit wiser when picking and choosing these “issues” to blow up and “break the net”
I’m just saying cuz we are causing a lot of ppl jobs and future careers by harping on shit that was probably mandated by the publisher rather than the devs themselves in most cases.
I enjoyed watching you and Az play this and I have to agree it’s got some changes that didn’t fit the new game play.
RE2:R really has changed my thoughts on remake especially when it is done right.
This remake was one of my 2 favorite games of 2019. The other favorite of mine incidentally was also a remake, Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled.
The reasons you criticize it are what make it a great game. Tight hallways, low health/ammo resources, slow moving character etc. Remove any or all of the those elements and the game becomes just a zombie shooter.
yeah some of the problems he had in this vid were stupid
It's pretty annoying that instead of putting 5 zombies in a room like the original, they'd put 2 in and just give them a tonne of HP.
@@GangsterFrankensteinComputer
Not only does it make the enemies super tanky and annoying, but it also makes the environments feel more empty because it quite literally is less filled with enemies, whether that be zombies, crows, spiders, etc. There is just less going on
The mini gun and infinite launcer is so fun on this game. You also can get Chris Redfield's automatic with infinite ammo.. but it fires too fast and 30 rounds seem to go to the ether.. lol
Completely unrelated but have you finished FF7 Rebirth?
I’m waiting for this one too. These last few game review videos seem like he pulled them out of the archive, because they match the vocal tone of more of his older videos. Still great reviews!
One of the best remakes in general, not just in the past years.
The only other I've played that were similar in quality in my opinion were RE4 and Dead Space. Those also capture what the original was, but improve on it in my opinion.
I played the remake with Leon (first run) and Claire (2nd run). It doesn't seem to matter like the original RE2 if you play all 4 scenarios to uncover more events/true ending.
Great review! Please give Balder's Gate 3 a review too.
This is one of my favortie games of all time
I NEVER played RE games growing up so i had no nostalgia going into RE2. As soon as i walked (Sprinted) out that Gas station with Leon i was HOOKED
I hate the police station in Dead By Daylight. But it is a great recreation, and quite pretty.
Drinker the reason there’s so many blue herbs is because with all three types of herbs you get a defensive boost
That game is almost perfect. The only issue I had it was with the ending. Sherry moved wayyy to quick with her grief :)
X. That's it, that's what the Remake did better than the original, everything else is far superior in the original (no you can't convince me dialogue is better when Claire goes full girlboss on Birkin G3, if this was an older Claire that is experienced on this sure, not RE2 Claire that is facing this for the first time, this alongside how it looks like she wants to bang Leon at all cost no matter if they are in a zombie apocalypse)
You also exaggerate on the difficulty, when the start of this game literally holds you by the hand by shoving magical fire that doesn't burn you while also preventing all the zombies from following you into that deserted back alley that leads straight into the RPD while in the original you had to go through the main street, Kendo's shop, back alley, main street, bus until you get to the RPD, all of those areas infested with zombies.
If someone launched the OG RE2 with modern graphics the Remake would look like a pathetic joke next to it.
why re-edited??
Will you play helldivers 2?
headshots allows you to get critical hits giving you a percentage chance to pop zombie heads. it still saves bullets. there's other points in this review as well where he gives off negative remarks on stuff but it's really just the lack of testing.
The best RE game in the past 15 years
I've recently been trying to 100% this game, its so good but RE4 Remake is even better in my opinion!
I didn't realize I could replay it again and experience a different viewpoint in the game. I am going to try that out!
RE2 remake was better than RE2. It was a tad harder for sure, so had more strategy too. What to fight, what to kneecap, what to board up. The lickers in the late lab were kind of tough. Agreed Leon and Claire cross-over was lacking, Claire likes Leon in the original more.
Why did you re edit and reload the review just wondering
For this channel. Its his Critical Gamer channel dedicated to his experiences and reviews of videogames.
Oh did he upload to drinker the first time
The only good 'RE REmake' is the first 'RE REmake', the others are 'Meh!'. Waiting for 'Resident Evil Outbreak REmake'
Hey are games following the same pattern as Hollywood? Regarding remakes and sequels? Seems to be creeping in...
Some of my favourite childhood games are Sonic 2,3 &K, FFVII, Resident Evil 2 (sequels), and MGS (reboot).
I actually like to play with no enemies mod. Of course bosses are there etc but that eerie atmosphere of abandoned locations is equally scary for me
I miss the voice, and the intercuts. I know you likely intended this channel to be lower effort. But... I think the lower production quality shows.
Great as always still looking forward to rdr2
Can you do lies of p?
You have to let your enemies closer and them blast them away.
"laughs in rocket launcher"
5:49 Actually it is possible to block all relevant windows
Well the free aiming is there so you can shoot the legs so they fall down and start crawling which makes runing past a piece of cake. Or shoot theor legs and then finish them with the knife, saving ammo and killing the zombie. Most efficent way to fight imo.
I didn't think moving messes with your accuracy, I think you just get a damage bonus when you stand still.
If you haven't played it you can get RE2 Remake cheap now on most stores so stop what you are doing and F'ing play it!
just started replaying this
Intriguing... 🤔
Mr. X. gave me high blood pressure during the whole remake game time.
