I remember playing Revelations 2 and yelling "Wait why didn't anyone tell me this is good?!?!" Glad to see I'm not the only one who had that experience.
I think what really held this game back was the episodic release. When the game released it only had 1 episode. It released each episode after a week. So you had to wait at least a month to get the whole game and even longer to get a full packaged release
I just want my boy Barry to have a happy ending. I was him for Halloween awhile back and was shocked how many people outside of the culture knew who I was. Gonna give this game an honest shot, pretty stoked for some new RE I wasn't expecting lol
For those who want to know how badass this game was, I recommend the video: The Resident Evil they keep Remaking... by LambHoot. Long story short, Resident Evil 4 remake owes a lot to Rev 2 and in many ways, Rev 2 is better than 4 remake.
I think a lot of people were put off by the way it was initially sold. Carving it up and selling it a chapter at a time was a stupid decision on Capcom's part.
Revelations 2 is one of my favorite RE games, due to its couch co-op game play. It’s the first game I played with my gf (now wife) and we had a blast. It’s possibly one of the best games to play with someone who has very little game experience since it is very forgiving for the second player. It also forces you to work together for max efficiency. We found out that if the second player goes down it doesn’t cause game over so she started going nuts with the crowbar and running into fight almost anything, which lead to some hilarious moments.

@@iHaveTheDocuments they definitely aren't perfect, but good luck stopping the modding and hacking scene completely lol. Their games are still really good. Been loving the Monster Hunter series since I got into it last year, and Street Fighter 6 was a great return to form after SF5.
Even games like TGAA especially on 3DS was stylistically perfect. Capcom tended to really pull off good looking game with the limitation of the hardware indeed.
Revelations 2 actually made me care about the characters for a change. My mind was blown and wish the same care was in the other games that came after.
YES! Thank you for making this video! I’ve always loved this game and felt that all the hate it got was super undeserved. It was actually the first RE game I ever played and it’s what got me into the series.
Revelations 1 wasn't bad neither, but Revelations 2 brought back the creepy scary feels that was disappearing from the franchise. And also if they consider it canon, then the ending cinematic suggests Natalia may come back as a future villain.
Great to see the Resident Evil game reviews again , would love to see more videos like this (maybe on the game channel) even reviews like games like evil within or silent hill games or hell even games you played growing up
I seriously would kill for Drinker to check out Signalis, it's pretty much the holy child of the game design of old school RE and the storytelling of Silent Hill. Incredible game, with a cryptic, yet tragic story.
As someone who admittedly loves nearly all of the Resi games, Revelations 2 was a definite refreshing surprise and basically gave me my wish of making Barry a PLAYABLE major character which I'd wanted ever since his introduction in the extended Mercs mode for Resi 5.
Now that he's made a dedicated gaming channel, I find myself wishing he'd finally get around to reviewing the _Silent Hill_ series. I'd be shocked to learn he's never played them before, and would happily give him part of my liver as a transplant just to hear his take on _SH2._
I haven't played, but I've watched the Two Best Friends play through of it a few times. It's a lot of fun and hearing the story from the perspective of guys that have a deep love and respect for the franchise makes it really engaging. You gotta love the "Claire Sandwich" line...
This is the first RE game that I finished several times and I can say its story is so dark throughout all acts. You can really feel the desperation of each playable characters and that the enemies are outright terrifying, specifically the invisible flying bug that insta-kills you in a violent way.
I’m so glad I’ve started giving the old RE games a chance. In this age of garbage games pushing an agenda. I can go back to these pure fun game games. Grew up with a Nintendo64 so I never played them back in the day :D
I played through this in VR with VorpX a few years ago. Absolutely excellent experience. Revelations 1 was fun to play that way but Revelations 2 that way was one of my favourite RE experiences.
Revelations 2 was ok but Revelations 1 was an absolute banger with survival horror elements rivaling that of even RE2R and probably the best Jill iteration in the series
Amen. It’s incredible, has that Dead Space feeling when moving through the ship, revisiting old parts, clearing them out again, restoring power, fixing stuff etc
I really enjoyed Rev 2 - in coop! Besides Resi 5 and Saints Row 2 one of the greatest coop games I've ever played. And we have strong woman in it - without it feeling forced. Great job, Capcom! I can really recommend it as a coop game. I will never forget the invisible enemys that only the little girl could see to tell Barry in which direction he has to shoot... 👍😃 Ok Drinker, now finally play Star Trek Resurgence! Would be interesting to hear your opinion after all the ST series trash...
I've been a hardcore RE fan since the original game in 1996, both Revelations games were a ray of sunshine in the dark RE6 days, way before RE7 came to rescue the series.
My favourite throwback line of the game is when Claire picks up the first gun and Moira asks her if she´s really gonna use it, and Claire responds with: "It´s more reliable than any person". That´s what Steve told her once during the events of RE: Code Veronica. In that game Claire is taken aback after hearing him say that, but I guess that after years in a world that suffers bioterrorism attacks every other Wednesday she´s taken that line to heart.
I just reinstalled this on my Switch. This is probably my favorite RE game after the GameCube remake. RE Revelations 2 hits that sweet spot between Code Veronica and RE5-6. The Overseer is one of the weirdest/awesome creature designs in the entire series. The Horde Mode is the best in the entire series. Barry rules. Good stuff.
Correct me if I'm wrong, Revelations 1 and 2 were on the 3DS and the PS Vita before coming to consoles and computer. So, the textures and animations are going to be limited on a handheld. It's a straight port so they didn't remaster anything, just the resolution and controls were worked on.
Unpopular opinion, but I enjoyed the revelations more than RE7 and Village. Rev felt more like OG RE to me. Even played the Raid mode to death, couldn't get enough of it
Understandable opinion, plus the Revelations games have the OG characters and Zombies. 7 and 8 have no Zombies and none of the original cast except Chris very infrequently. 7 and 8 in VR though...Fantastic!. Played over 800hrs in Raid 2 over 3 platforms, it's f'kin awesome!
I prefer horror over action, to me RE7 is still better in that regard unlike revelations 2, but Rev2 was definitely my favorite RE game ever in those days, even more than RE4.
@@neon_plaza9693 I forget about those, they literally come out of the ground too. Guess 'cause they were wielding weapons and all wearing hoods I didn't associate them as "zombies".
I vehemently disagree with 99 % of your takes and I've left my fair share of harsh words, but there is at least one positive thing I can say: Your enthusiasm for Resident Evil is genuine.
I didn't know what to think of REvelations 2 when I first played it. But after a while, I got suckered into it and in the end I even worried about Moira, although she annoyed the hell out of me at first. I agree on the co-op mode. The partners were actually usefull and did not end up as human item boxes like Rebecca in RE0, or a constant hinderance like Ashley-help-me-Graham. Also, I liked that choices made in Claire's scenario had an impact on Barry's scenario. I really hope to see more of this in the future. And let's not forget Moira's and Natalia's mini-games. Now there was some REAL survial horror going on in those. All in all, I liked it a lot more than expected.
Made a point to beat the classic RE games in order (starting with 0) on Steam and just beat this one after finishing 5. This and the the first revelation really brought the dread back to the series for me.
4:20 I disagree. One of the Wesker children sounding pretentious as fuck is exceptionally on brand. Albert's only failing was that he _didn't_ have a philosophical work to obsess over and yet completely misunderstand. Like Caesar in New Vegas, going on about Hegel but fundamentally misinterpreting Hegelian Dialectics.
Alex Wesker was mentioned multiple times in RE5 within main campaign/Lost in Nightmares DLC...she basically took funding from Spencer for her research while then cutting him off after a big breakthrough.....so no her appearance wasn't an overly convenient coincidence...
U sound just like my Best Friend Drinker cause he is a huge Resident Evil fan as well. Resident Evil is his favorite gaming franchise & he has made it his mission to platinum Every Resident Evil game
Revelations 2 is my favorite RE game. It's not the best game in the series and I wouldn't recommend it first but I sort of fell in love with the characters. Also raid mode is fun
This is such an under appreciated RE game and I'm happy see it get some love! I keep hoping to see a follow up with Natalia/Alex who at this point in the timeline would be an adult(again). It would be awesome to see another Wesker menace show their face in future RE games.
My son and I are playing this on my ps5 and having a great time. We tried it on the Nintendo switch and loved it until we made it outside with Claire and Moira. All of a sudden, the game kept struggling with pop in that made it unplayable. I highly recommend it, just not on switch.
I thought REvelations 2 did a good job incorporating Kafka. The references tie into the story decently, but are never essential to understand what’s happening. Keeping those references to loading screens, chapter titles, and a few lines from Alex Wesker prevented the references from becoming overused or distracting. Knowing Kafka adds to the game experience, but you don’t lose anything by not knowing him. The Dante references in REvelations 1 felt completely pointless, but I hope (should we ever get a REvelations 3) they keep the literary inspiration.
13:29 To be fair, Claire hasn't looked like Claire since her debut in RE2. That was her and then in RE Code Veronica they kinda kept that look, only to completely abandon it for the CGI films (literally changing the look with every film) and then following suit with every game. If she is going to be in RE 9 like some leaks have rumored, it will be interesting if they continue with her RE2 Remake model or switch it up AGAIN. At this point its kinda more a tradition than keeping the same face over the course of a sequel LMAO
I really liked Revelations 2. In fact, I loved it so much i played it as the new episodes released when it first launched. If you didn't play this game at launch you probably don't realize it's an episodic game that released incrementally. It was a nice change. Anyway, having (spoilers) Weskers sister as the final boss was a pretty awesome twist. The extra episodes were also fun. I wish they made a RER3
Resident Evil 5 (the lost in nightmares DLC if I remember) actually mentions Wesker's sister in one note (when talking about the project that created wesker). They're not related by blood, but they are siblings in terms that they were both (among others) subject of the same experiment. That said, Revelations 2 was my favorite RE game before the RE engine games released, and part of me was always sad that RE 5 and 6 didn't play like this game, especially since you face RE5 and 6 enemies with the exact same movesets in raid mode in Rev2)
That's because the first Revelation was a pointless prequel. The only GOOD part is where you play as those two screwballs who got roped into doing the job Chris failed to
You can tell a good game by the small details. One of my favorite details small details the average person wouldn't notice is the rifle Barry brought with him to the island is a Knight's Armament Company SR-47. Which is essentially an AR-15 not only chambered in Soviet 7.62x39 but it also uses straight up AK-47 magazines. This shows the devs really took care to say "hey if a were a firearms enthusiast and a former tactical cool guy what guns would I bring to a form Soviet controlled island.
What he said at 15:08 is a good concept and something they do use in the game fir example when the prison cells unlock and you have to kill all the moira breaking off the bars and kill the zombies, if you dony use the flamethrower you can pick up parts as barry because the flames wont destory it in chapter 2 if you kill pedro as clair you can take an alternate route as berry since youll get the drill near the start of the chapter in chapter 4 you have the option to open the left sluce or the right sluce as clair but than in barrys you go through the which ever sluce you closed
Dont forget the "extra episodes"! They are canon with the main story & best played in between Claire & Barry's sections of Episode 4! The fishing village stealth part of The Struggle chapter still gives me goosebumps; go check it out if you can!
For those who want to know how badass this game was, I recommend the video: The Resident Evil they keep Remaking... by LambHoot. Long story short, Resident Evil 4 remake owes a lot to Rev 2 and in many ways, Rev 2 is better than 4 remake.
I remember playing the director's cut a resident evil on my PS1 as probably way too young of a kid... Besides 4 being amazing, Revelations 1 is probably my favorite resident evil game
I really enjoyed both Revelation games a lot. But damn, I probably put most of my time into the raid mode, especially in 2. It's so much fun in Co-op :D
Drinker, I have to say. You really sound inspired and passionate about how games are made and what constitutes a good one. You're just as good as reviewing games as you are with movies... I'm just really fucking impressed is what I'm saying, I guess! Keep them coming! This channel will grow, I garan-fucking-tee you!
Gotta love the REV2 love 😌🥰❣💯 Btw, Alex was mentioned in a file during RE5 (I forgot if it was in the main campaign or in the LiN DLC) ✌🏻 You guys should also read the Manga titled 'HEAVENLY ISLAND' as it takes place after REV2 🤙🏻
The technical deficiencies you are talking about is due to the fact that the games roots are for PS Vita. Same as revelations 1 was for 3DS before it. On either handheld the game looked stellar, particularly Revelations 1 on 3DS with the 3D effect turned on. So MT framework it was for both of them but a much lesser version than what RE5 was able to produce as it was the full deal.
I definitely agree that it didn't go far enough. I would have like them to really embrace the splitting story outcomes like RE1 had. They *kind* of do that with Moira's outcome, it was definitely nice to get an influence over whether or not she survives, but it would have been cool if there was a lot more interaction there. Or, for example, more interaction between the two stories like RE2 did, where you could leave items or things in the past then pick them up as Barry.
There is some of that already in the game. To get one of the gold mod kits in Episode 1, you have to avoid destroying one of the Iron maidens at the end of Claire's section, and pick it up during Barry's. There's something similar with changing the dam's door during the final episode.
For years and years after playing the original game, i thought that barry says "jiffel sandwich". Wasnt til years later and it became cemented in history i realised it was just "jill sandwich". Then i was like "oh yea that makes way more sense" 😂
I remember playing Revelations 2 and yelling "Wait why didn't anyone tell me this is good?!?!" Glad to see I'm not the only one who had that experience.

That said, Revelations 2 was my favorite RE game before the RE engine games released, and part of me was always sad that RE 5 and 6 didn't play like this game, especially since you face RE5 and 6 enemies with the exact same movesets in raid mode in Rev2)
I loved Revelations. Classic RE.
I played through this game 4 times 😂 especially with couch co-op, it’s so fun
Revelations 2 is the template of all Modern RE games if you pay attention. One of the best RE games ever. Has more replay value than Revelations 1,
That's because the first Revelation was a pointless prequel.
The only GOOD part is where you play as those two screwballs who got roped into doing the job Chris failed to
One of the best resident evils for sure
You can tell a good game by the small details. One of my favorite details small details the average person wouldn't notice is the rifle Barry brought with him to the island is a Knight's Armament Company SR-47. Which is essentially an AR-15 not only chambered in Soviet 7.62x39 but it also uses straight up AK-47 magazines. This shows the devs really took care to say "hey if a were a firearms enthusiast and a former tactical cool guy what guns would I bring to a form Soviet controlled island.
Anything with Barry being Barry is great.
"Who's the master of unlocking now?"
Nice format. This unknown youtuber could go far in the future.
We need a remake of these too! RE could keep the franchise alive for another 20 years, based on just remakes alone. If you build them, they will come!
Thanks for reminding me to finish this game😅. Been years on backlog
Played this with my wife who is not a gamer. She really enjoyed just holding the flashlight and screaming in my ear
Cool review. I really enjoyed this game.
Correction to the mentioning of Alex Wesker. She was mentioned a very long time ago back during RE5 I believe.
I was so happy to play as Barry. He has always been my favorite character
I was kinda done w/RE after 4, but it's nice to see how things dragged-along.
YESSSS I'm so glad I'm not alone
This video sold me on getting the game.
Although would be interesting to hear your two cents on "Signalis."
I like this new TH-camr, he seems pretty good at what he does. Excited to see him grow as a creator I think he has a knack for it
What he said at 15:08 is a good concept and something they do use in the game fir example when the prison cells unlock and you have to kill all the moira breaking off the bars and kill the zombies, if you dony use the flamethrower you can pick up parts as barry because the flames wont destory it in chapter 2 if you kill pedro as clair you can take an alternate route as berry since youll get the drill near the start of the chapter in chapter 4 you have the option to open the left sluce or the right sluce as clair but than in barrys you go through the which ever sluce you closed
This game is great with gyro aim controls on the Switch
Please tell me someone has a link to that wedding video.
I love the gaming content. would love a silent hill 2 review, my absolute favorite horror game
Long story short, Resident Evil 4 remake owes a lot to Rev 2 and in many ways, Rev 2 is better than 4 remake.
are these fresh game reviews? someone said you were just posting them from the other channel
I remember playing the director's cut a resident evil on my PS1 as probably way too young of a kid... Besides 4 being amazing, Revelations 1 is probably my favorite resident evil game
Resident evil revelations series is one of the best games I have played
I really enjoyed both Revelation games a lot. But damn, I probably put most of my time into the raid mode, especially in 2.
It's so much fun in Co-op :D
With how nice the exploration is with this game I'm interested to see how they will do an open world Resident Evil game
I love Rev 2. It’s not perfect, but it is one of my favorite RE games of the past 15 years. Raid mode is probably my favorite side mode of the series
So is the Drinker now reviewing games? Yassss
Could you review the first 4 Silent Hill games?
Drinker, I have to say. You really sound inspired and passionate about how games are made and what constitutes a good one. You're just as good as reviewing games as you are with movies... I'm just really fucking impressed is what I'm saying, I guess!
Keep them coming! This channel will grow, I garan-fucking-tee you!
6:06 wick choice in the outfits 👌
Gotta love the REV2 love 😌🥰❣💯
Btw, Alex was mentioned in a file during RE5 (I forgot if it was in the main campaign or in the LiN DLC) ✌🏻
You guys should also read the Manga titled 'HEAVENLY ISLAND' as it takes place after REV2 🤙🏻
Would like to see more of game reviews from you Drinker
Both the Revelation games are very good.
Revelations 1 is up there with my favourites of the series. Curious to see what the drinker thinks about that entry.
Please make more game reviews. We really need it
I definitely agree that it didn't go far enough.
@@harlannguyen4048 Ah neat, good to know.
Revelations 1 &2 are great I enjoyed playing as old Barry
For years and years after playing the original game, i thought that barry says "jiffel sandwich". Wasnt til years later and it became cemented in history i realised it was just "jill sandwich". Then i was like "oh yea that makes way more sense" 😂
Does the little girl survive in a secret ending? Cuz she didn't when I played it.
