      @@dani_i8942 well yes over a decade later our standards should be higher lol but that doesn’t change how fun the game was when it came out and for the many years that followed. Until RE 2 remake, RE 4 was the last game that was near perfect. It’s not about standards, it’s about taking the timeline into consideration. I think my favourite thing about this game is the sheer variety in the locations you visit. You never stay somewhere so long that it gets boring and there was never anything like it and hasn't been to this day. Seriously, for a PS2 game going from a village to castle to a secret island to an secret lab all with their own unique enemy types, puzzles, textures and equipment was and still is some of the most diverse locations you can get in a single game. How they managed it all onto a single disc still amazes me.

    This is unironically the best version of Leon ever. I thought the Remake would do Leon best, but RE4's Leon is still the most charismatic and badass version of him... though since he is from an horror series maybe being "baddass" isn't ideal, but I don't personaly don't care. Leon is fucking cool.

    • @Rivershield

      @Dominic dominic No. The kind of game I feel nostalgia is Super Mario World or Final Fantasy VII. I'm that old.
      I still play RE4 from time to time so there's no reason for me to feel nostalgia.

    • @tba113
      @tba113 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      'Badass' and 'horror setting' aren't mutually exclusive. Aliens walked that line well.
      Personally, I like both of Leon's incarnations: the rookiee cop out of his depth but rising to the occasion in RE2, and the highly trained special agent who never gives up in RE4.

    • @Rivershield
      @Rivershield 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@tba113 Me too. But many would disagree. It's basically a consensus regarding horror games that it must have a vulnerable protagonist.

      RE4 is when many players were introduced to Leon for the first time, even though the original RE2 came out first (both as a game and story-wise). Rookie Leon in Raccoon City being weak and vulnerable is a great background build-up for the badass agent in RE4, and the difference in genres (survival horror vs action) suits the character development

      What works best for Pro as well is to make the most crowd combos (basically hitting one guy that makes everyone else get stunned or fall down), then use the knife. I absolutely love that game on Pro, and it is a proper resident evil experience on it, and not quite as action as most people say it is. One poor choice, one failed set piece, and all of a sudden you find yourself with no ammo, and barely any health. Luckily the smart engine knows this (whatever that difficulty thing is lol) and will supply you with ammo to scrap by and fill up again. That is how a game should be.

    I, first, played RE4 on my PS2. I ended up beating the game 18 times in a row. I had AT LEAST 25 play-throughs of this one game. To say Resident Evil 4 is a good game...is an UNDERSTATEMENT!!!
    However, playing on the Wii and using the Wii-mote and Nunchuck was a game changer! It played SO MUCH BETTER being able to aim and shoot with my wrist and trigger finger, instead of two thumb-sticks and the R1 Button. So, I ended up putting an additional dozen play-throughs on the Wii version.
    I just couldn't get bored of this game. I played the first Resident Evil; and got bored of the puzzle aspect of it (never beat it). Resident Evil 2 had my attention at near full-peak, and play the living crap out of it. Resident Evil 3 was more like Resident Evil 2; but, not as good (played and beat it three times). So, when Resident Evil 4 came out, I thought it would be like Resident Evil 3; which made me have no interest in playing it. Then, I ended up buying it on sale for $10...and what resulted was the first and 2nd "paragraphs" of this comment. I was kicking myself for not buying it sooner.

    It's still funny to me that it never crossed anyone's mind that being a Nintendo exclusive meant _RE_ fans had to run out and not only buy a new console just to keep playing their favorite series, but a console that didn't have many other options suited to their tastes. It was a much bigger gamble than Nintendo or Capcom assumed it would be and it most certainly didn't pay off like they thought it would.

    I played PS1 constantly but got bored with gaming, Resident evil 4 brought back my love for gaming with a vengeance! I replayed this game back to back more times than I could possibly remember and still love it to today. There were absolutely some very annoying aspects to the game, especially Ashley! She was a consistent source of face palming every time she got captured, and it was strange that the village was 18th century gothic, but the game was as SOOOO good you were willing to overlook these things.

    I love this game. I remember when I played it for the first time back in early 2005, I was both frightened and exhilarated. When I finished the game, i thought: "That was an absolute blast! If I was to make a Resident Evil game, I would have done this!" I still enjoy playing it to this day. A perfect game. It's a completely bonkers story (RE8 says hi), but it is so much fun. And Leon is such a badass in this one, complete with the cheesy insults ("Your right hand comes off?"). Plus there is the influence it had on future game development and design.

    You start relatively slow, you kill a handful of dudes, a couple of gem carrying crows, save a puppy, and all of a sudden you are in Pueblo, surrounded by dozens of yelling, screaming villagers, and you got your head severed by some kind of Leatherface wearing a bag on his face...
    I do remember me, the third time I was dying, overwhelmed by the mob, far beyond the initial shock and awe, saying to myself, "ok, that's gonna be tougher that expected..." with a gritty smile on my face.

    One other thing I think worth mentioning was the dynamic difficulty level. Miss enough shots and get hit enough and without telling you enemies become fewer in number and less aggressive. Shoot more accurately and avoid being hit and you get more numerous enemies which attack you more aggressively. I didn't even realize it was doing this until it was pointed out to me.

    Thank you! This is the most honest honest review of this game I've seen. Thanks for not just gushing over a game that, at best, is just good. And if it wasn't a Resident Evil game, it would've been great. I think people got too carried away with the new action/adventure style that they didn't realize how much it didn't fit into the world that RE 0-3 had built. I get so chapped when people say it's the best RE game and I'm still salty about how it changed the RE games for so long.

    • @prl4122
      @prl4122 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Press X Props well all of the reviews of this game are honest this is just one that you happen to agree with which is how echo chambers are started.
      Re4 didn’t change the series as you can see the original creators who made the games have min since left capcom and so did their vision for the future of the franchise. If we’re gonna blame re4 for the existence of re5 and 6 then we have to praise it for the existence of remake 2 which uses the foundation that re4 created.
      I dunno it just gets upsetting to see people bash re4 for what it’s not instead of what it is

    I found RE4 a perfect mix of action and horror and I’m big into survival horror, the audio in RE4, the chanting cultists in the castle in particular made the hairs on my arms stand up, RE4 is in my top 10 games of all time, RE5 and especially 6 went WAY overboard with action, I enjoyed 5 but not as much as 4 it wasn’t as scary and 6 was just ridiculous, I think there’s a middle ground that I like and RE4 was that for me.

    Couldn't agree more. It's a fantastic game but it completely killed Resident Evil as we knew it. Took until 2017 to finally get back on track.
    It's a small suggestion, but there's a very simple thing they could've done to make us feel like it was more of a Resident Evil game. And no, it's nothing to do with the story. There are several doors that lead to area transitions that come with a black "Now Loading..." screen... If those traditional door opening animations were there instead, that would've been a huge difference.

    Best game in the series in my opinion when you take into account the timeless nature of the game and the multiple remakes it stands apart from any and all competition it has a lot of replay value (I have lost count of how many times I completed it ) and it also managed to take a series from a niche struggling survival horror since at the time it was actually getting out of style and make it into a massive success while still respecting and continuing the Resident Evil story line
