TOYAMA TRAVEL GUIDE ⛩️🍜 | 17 Things to do in TOYAMA, Japan
Our adventure in Toyama, nestled in the heart of Japan's Toyama Prefecture, turned out to be the hidden gem of our trip - a delightful surprise that we stumbled upon quite unintentionally. We had added Toyama to our itinerary as a mere stopover, without much thought or expectation. Yet, from the moment we stepped into this captivating city, Toyama embraced us with its charm, making us wonder why we hadn't heard more about it before.
Let me take you through our journey in Toyama, a city that quickly won our hearts. Imagine gliding down the Matsukawa River, where each bend reveals a new vista, or savoring the depth of flavor in Toyama's Black Ramen and the delicate sweetness of Glass Shrimp. Our guide doesn't stop there; we ventured out to Iwasehama, a quaint port and beach town, adding a refreshing coastal twist to our exploration.
Our tale begins with the majestic Toyama Castle, its history seeping through the ancient walls. We wandered around Toyama Castle Ruin Park, each step taking us back in time. The Matsukawa River Pleasure Boat offered us a serene escape, floating past scenes that seemed painted just for us. And oh, the culinary delights! A medicinal meal at Ikedaya Yasubei Shoten introduced us to healing flavors, while the Toyama Glass Art Museum dazzled us with its creative spark.
We didn't just eat and gaze at beauty; we soaked in culture at the Matsukawa Chaya Tea House and meandered through a Sculpture Walk by the river. The view from the Toyama City Hall Observation Tower took our breath away, offering a bird's eye view of this stunning city. A day trip to Iwasehama whispered tales of the sea, and dining on Glass Shrimp felt like a luxurious treat.
We also marveled at the Baba Family House and sought blessings at the Hie Shrine. The Toyama Black Ramen was a revelation, and Masu Zushi Toyama Trout Sushi a taste of heaven. Our journey wrapped up at Kansui Park, leaving us in awe of Toyama's understated beauty and rich heritage.
Toyama, with its perfect blend of natural beauty, culinary wonders, and a dash of history, left an indelible mark on our hearts. It's a city that beckons quietly but enchants deeply. Join us as we recount the top things to do in Toyama, Japan - a city that's much more than just a stopover, it's a destination in its own right.

Toyoma is a lovely place in every season. The Toyoma public library which also houses the glass art museum is beautiful. Starbucks at Kansui park is really nice too. Take the local train for a scenic ride along the Amaharashi coast .
From Toyoma, its easy to go to Kurobe gorge , Kurobe alpine route to see the snow walls , Kanazawa n Takayama also. Shirakawago n Shin Hotaka japanese alps is easily accessible by Nohi bus from Toyoma or Takayama too.
I’m glad you’ve visited my hometown Toyama! Toyama is an unassuming place compared to Kanazawa, but a hidden gem. Yes, no trip to Toyama is complete without trying masuzushi (trout sushi).
We loved Toyama! It's such a green, peaceful and livable city. And the masuzushi was delicious!! 😊
Greetings from Japan 🇯🇵. foreigner usually visit major cities such as Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka, however you were exploring all over the Japan, which attract even Japanese people😊. As I see your video, I would like to travel more my country. Arigatou❤.
Thank you! We did the classic Golden Triangle (Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka) on our first trip to Japan, but we quickly realized we prefer the rural and lesser known places. We decided to prioritize smaller destinations on this trip and loved it! I also hope you get to see more of your own country. 😊
After many years of observation, I noticed that Samuel always carries a backpack. If it's not a secret or something illegal, finally tell us what he's carrying there.😂😘
Camera, spare batteries, water bottles and two umbrellas! 😅
What a gem Toyama is. We had that same experience. You guys went in October. We went in May, a lot more crowded. Nevertheless, it had that perfect balance between that peaceful, relaxed vibe and many things to do that a small city offers ,museums , nice walking paths, etc. And of course, great food. You guys covered a lot of ground. A great choice guys!
Hope you all are doing well. Sending you hugs🫂 and Kisses💋 from Richmond, Va. Harriet, Jim and Yuki
Hi Jim and Harriet, so cool to hear that you've also been to Toyama. We used it as our starting point to do the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route across the Japanese Alps - that'll be the next video! We're so glad we gave this place a few days of our time. I hope you're both doing well. Sending you greetings! 😊
Everything in Japan is interesting and worth seeing
I'm going to Japan in 5 weeks traveling from Fukuoka towards Tokyo in about 22 days. I am so exited. It almost feels unreal.
If been trying to go to Japan starting eight years ago, so it is a relieve it is finally happening. My previous attempt was in early 2020.
Wonderful mountains
The little castle…adorable!
Es increíble la educación de las personas son amables educadas ❤todo bello hermoso gracias ❤
Sea and mountains what a combination!!!!
Thank you guys for the information about Toyama!!
We're in Toyama know and pretty much we follow your itinerary. Everything is so good. We have one more day in Toyama and back to Tokyo. Thank you very much!!!
That's so nice to hear! We're glad our Toyama itinerary came in handy. Enjoy the rest of your trip. 😊
Toyama is lovely, and that matcha mochi dessert/black ramen looks so delish...Definitely on my to visit and eat list now!
Beautiful tower
Tha glass bowls ….unique beauty
Visiting Japan has always been a dream of ours! I think when we will finally go there, we will re-watch all your videos to make sure we go to the same restaurants - you seem to find such jewels! XOXO
That library looks really great! Combining wood and books never fails, maybe because paper is made from wood. I guess we could say they are some kind of distant relatives. :D Joking aside, the library's amazing. Speaking of libraries, 15 years ago, I met one person at a library, and the person's face, stature and, interestingly enough, fashion style are similar to Audrey's.
We are just loving your videos and we are watching them from Japan haha
I added Takayama to our itinerary after seeing your video, now I want to add Toyama too! Love your videos 😊
Looks very inviting
i love watching you tubers go around japan,
越中の旅!美味しい食事ばかり見せられお腹がグーグーでした!
😋🍜🍣 富山の食べ物は美味しかったです!
must be fun
The surprise hits always make for the best
That's very true! I find when we show up somewhere with zero expectations, it ends up being the best experience ever. 😊
I will be going to Toyama on July to visit family and will be staying there for a couple of months. I really needed this video. Haha
Smuel is filming the souo cos it s so picturesque!!!!!
Thanks!
Thank you very much!
You two would conquer each prefecture of Japan in near future!
Haha, that would be a fun travel goal! We'd love to get to see all of Japan.
Loving your clips. I find them informative even as a Japanese. Toyama hasn’t been on my radar either but is now on my list of places to visit. Looking forward to more adventures in Japan 😊
Thank you! We're glad to hear you've been enjoying the videos. Next up is the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route! 😊
What a great gem of a city that you guys found. Also one of the better videos (all have been great) in this series. Every time I see one of your videos from Japan I really want Japanese food. Great job!
Aww, thank you! Glad you enjoyed the Toyama episode. This destination was a complete surprise for us.
Surprises are the best!!@@samuelandaudrey
We’ve never heard of this place but now we want to visit for sure. Love your travel videos!❤
Thank you. This one is worth adding to your itinerary!
Toyama surprised my wife and I in a very positive way as well. In addition to the wonderful seafood folks might consider sampling the excellent local sake as well. Just outside the city is famous Kurobe Gorge. We liked it, but the train ride up the gorge is on the pricey side. The Kurobe area has plenty of hot springs.
I like the animals sculptures
I am not really sure what to do in our 4 day trip to Takayama next week. This video help me plan a day trip. Thank you!
Thank you!
7:35 the dishes that you had looked so delicious and healthy , I had been to Toyama once ,I wish I had the same dishes that you had.
We loooved the food in Toyama! So many unique things to try. The medicinal meal with herbs was super interesting - a very unique experience that I'm not sure we'll ever encounter elsewhere!
@8:59: The Toyama Glass Art Museum was designed by a great Japanese architect, Kengo Kuma
After years of planning searching etc my ideal Japan first trip TOYAMA has never been on my radar so this was esp interesting to me! What a lovely peaceful place I was wondering if accommodation were significantly cheaper on this side as opposed to Kanazawa per say?
Just realised I missed last week episode as I was travelling myself … so gonna watch it as I have it shortlisted
Thank you 🙏🏼 I’m enjoying it this Japan serie so sooo much
Sabrina🇫🇷🇬🇧
Ahh, yes, we also wanted to visit the Kurobe Gorge overnight, but everything was fully booked! We were there during peak autumn foliage, so it got busy. That being said, we got quite lucky and managed to get tickets to do the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route across the Alps, so that more than made up for it!
😍😍😍😍
You could show some shops to see souvenirs, clothes, etc
Toyama black ramen is saulty because it's designed to eat with rice.
U should visit Himi and TAKAOKA for gourmet tour.
U can find so much delicious seafood. Good hotsprings are there as well in Himi.
and forgot to mention.
U shouldn't have bought masu sushi inside the station. that's a kind u can find everywhere in japan. there're so many masu sushi shops have been selling ones for generations in the suburban area.
Did you use the JR Takayama-Hokuriku Area Tourist Pass?
Ok, so now I have to go to Japan twice
I am in Toyama now.
Awesome. Enjoy!! 😊
Yeah! Always Enjoy your videos
Glad to hear it! 😊
I am traveling to toyama for a work trip and my husband is accompanying me. We will have 3 days to explore before my conference. I see online there are a ton of day trips, but this video looks like there are a ton of things to do city center. It's our first time to any Asian country. Would you recommend hanging in the city or seeing/ doing as much as possible?
That sounds exciting! I would say, give yourself at least 1 day in Toyama and do the activities that most peak your interest - I would make time for the Matsukawa Boat ride. You can then have another day to visit Shirakawa-go by bus, and use your third day for another day trip.
Such a cool video, keep it up!!
I’ve got a question, do you film all your footage it one batch, and then edit it all in one batch afterwards? So like 4 weeks of just filming, and then you go somewhere and edit for 4 weeks. Or do you film and edit the same day and post it the following day?
Good question! We edit once we get back home. Our videos can take anywhere between 3-5 days to edit, so it wouldn't be a good use of our time to try and edit while we're on the road.
@@samuelandaudrey ahh okay make sense, thank you for responding! Much appreciated!
🙏🙏👍👍
Has anyone told you? Those cute animals at Hie Shrine were zodiac signs.
is there any particular reasons you didn't connect with Kanazawa as much?
We just had very high expectations after hearing other travel vloggers rave about the place, but we found it to be very touristy and crowded. It could just be our personal preference - we hear Kanazawa is a place that people either love or hate. We prefer quieter destinations that aren't as saturated with tourists.
Hola Audrey y Samuel.
Saludos!
@@samuelandaudrey Genial Audrey, 😁
What is the name of the black ramen restaurant?
It's listed on GoogleMaps as ガッツリ!えびすこ. You'll see it as soon as you walk out of the train station on the left hand side.
ill just warm up a sausage roll from the freezer samuel and audrey
It would be better the currency conversion in dollars thanks!
:-)
Strange….don t they have tour guides in english?
No English guides in this place. That's a bit harder to find once you get away from the bigger cities.
I AHALL WATCH YOU THIS AFTERNOON SAMUEL AND AUDREY SO YOU NOW HAVE LONG HAIR SAMUEL.
