It's understandable to think Zeus would be Percy's father. Percy's full name is "Perseus". In Greek mythology, Zeus was the father of Perseus.

The change to blonde hair in the show also kind of gives off Zeus vibes. Though maybe that's just me having too strong an association between a certain blonde-haired character and Zeus...

Annabeth is a daughter of Athena so she is really *really* smart!
So, in the books, demigods don't leave very long lives because their smell attracts monsters and most of them don't get training against them before they have to face them. That's the reason Grover and his mom wouldn't tell him anything, because when a demigod becomes aware of what they are, it gets exponentially a lot more dangerous. They had to push it back as long as they could. That's the reason camp exists, if they get to go there, they get training till they're 18 and then are sent "back" to the world (there are campers that stay full time in the camp and some that go back home, won't tell which ones 😉), the camp is protected by Zeus, so no monsters can enter. From the first year you get there till your last, you gain a necklace that will gain a different bead for each year (with the year's biggest event painted), so at the end of every summer, the campers that completed the year add a bead to the necklace. When you watch the next episode, you can look for Luke, Annabeth or other campers' necklaces! In a way it's a way of counting the years they survived.
In camp they develop their abilities and gain a community just like them, since most demigods have ADHD and dislexia (or one or the other), and overall just difficult lives, so it's also a bonding experience. The gods aren't really present in their children's lives as u could notice.
Another book curiosity that wasn't really explained, maybe they'll say it later, but it isn't a spoiler so I'll tell: they have dislexia because their brains are wired to read ancient greek/latin, so they have a really difficult time with English. And they have ADHD because their bodies are always trying to be ready for combat! (Annabeth loveees reading - in greek - so she oftens forget she also has dislexia until she needs to read English hahahaha)

I read these books before I was 10 and the Riordanverse has been with me ever since. Every series he has is connected in some way. Percy Jackson and thr Olympians leads into Heroes of Olympus, which leads into Trials of Apollo. Interconnected are the Kane Chronicles (Egyptian mythology) and the Magnus Chase series (Norse mythology) and a few one off books in between. I may be in my 20s now, but these stories will always have a special place in my heart and i could be married with kids and still first in line for a new book in this universe. I highly recommend reading them when you have the chance, although maybe wait until after this season is over for a good, completely surprising set of reactions. Its always fun to see what people think when they know nothing about the source material.

New to your channel and I already love the way you’re reacting to this show! I love watching people with no prior knowledge react to an adaptation a lot more than watching people who already know the source material, it makes for a much more fun reaction experience. And you seem like a very insightful reactor already. The reaction is soo good so far, although I don’t exactly like one choice they made regarding Percy’s stepfather. I won’t go into detail because I still hold out hope they’ll dive into that at some point but other than that, I’m a big fan of the show so far! It sticks very closely to the book and the author even had a cameo in the first episode back when Percy was questioned by the principal. Finally, I just wanted to mention that the books originally started out as a bedtime story for the author’s son, who has both ADHD and dyslexia. Hence why the demigods all have those as well.
One thing the episode didn’t quite spell out is the fact that Percy was kicked from every school he’s *ever* been to. Meaning, as he is in 6th grade (right? I’m not American we count school years a little differently) this means he’s already been to six different schools. So he’s never really made lasting friendships before, always being the new kid. That’s why the moment where he finally made friends hits so hard.
can’t wait for your future reactions 😊

ALSO they did actually make brief mention of a child of Zeus named Thalia when Luc was explaining the concept of "forbidden children" to Percy, so it makes sense that your mind would go there when you began to suspect he was forbidden. Youre keeping up pretty well with the theories

Some things that are different from the books
In the books percy wasn't expelled from the school bc he pushed nancy, he was bc of his low grades
Weeks happen in between the accident in the museum and the travel to thr camp, and during all that time percy feels like he is going mad bc no one remembers mrs doods
Demigods have dyslexia bc they are programmed to read ancient greek and latin, while the ADHD is their battle instincts preventing them to stay still. I feel like they should have done more emphasis on this.
Originally percy strugguled against clarisse and her friends until he landed on the water
Overall is great, but I wish we could have explored camp more before moving to capture the flag, there was so much to see
