    It is explained in this episode that monsters can come back from the dead. It’s how monsters that were killed in mythology exist in the current day and it’s how Mrs Dodds (the teacher Percy killed in the first episode, aka Alecto) came back in this episode. Normally it takes longer than a few days tho and I don’t think Medusa makes another appearance in the series. That being said, Percy Jackson explores a lot of Greek myths and monsters that you may not even know about.

    The way Medusa is portrayed in the show is actually an improvement from the books, in the books she's portrayed as just a spiteful villain whereas in the show even with little time with her it still took it to show she is not a monster or inherently evil with a more complex and sympathetic background than in book

      she's definitely still sinister and a villain, esp shown how she has petrified monsters in her front yard so that it seems like she uses her power for "good", but her basement is HUGE and filled with the innocent/mortal victims.
      i do like that they gave her a more solid backstory that dives into the complicated history with both athena and poseidon. it really shows how percy and annabeth are with their parents: annabeth who idolizes athena and doesn't accept criticism of her that much yet vs percy who knows poseidon isn't all that BUT isn't a monster either bec he trusts sally jackson's judgment

    2:37 not a boom mic, its a flag in the wind! i thought the same thing. also, the human/ "mortals" cant see annabeth going invisible, monsters, gods, etc etc. The Mist is a magical veil that hides the world of gods and demigods from mortal eyes and changes it into something they can understand. For example, if percy whips out his sword, they might just see a baseball bat or something. if they see annabeth go invisible, their brain will probably reset and will forget she was there in the first place (kind of like mrs dodds at the field trip)

  • @pinsandneedles3
    @pinsandneedles3 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +23

    Someone probably commented about this already, but these monsters don't truly die. When their physical forms are destroyed, they go to Tartarus, and are later reformed. There is no science to how long it takes for them to show up again - it can be days, weeks, years, even centuries. That's how we are able to see Medusa and the Minotaur in Percy's time despite the existing ancient myths of them being defeated and killed. I don't think this bit of lore comes across super well in the show so I totally understand the confusion!!
    Percy killing Medusa mirrors the statue of Perseus holding Medusa's severed head that we saw in the first episode. That was pretty neat.
    Anyway, I'm super excited to watch the show with you!! I grew up with the books but it's been like a decade since I re-read them. It's going to be fun to see this story on the TV screen and it's also really interesting to watch someone new to Percy Jackson reacting to it. So, thanks for the videos!! The Annabeth casting complaints are mostly just people giving a lot of reasons as to why they don't like the casting to avoid saying that they actually can't see Leah (the actress) as Annabeth because she's black. Like you said, the character isn't real. At the end of the day, what matters the most, is that her essence and personality are correctly portrayed on screen.

    Like in the books and here, Percy is naive. He doesn’t fully grasp the whole world being out to get to him just yet. The Grover singing part is a reference to Grover’s ability to play music and songs. Don’t spoil too much there if they go into more detail.
    Yes, Medusa really isn’t that strong. Besides her eyes she’s not powerful. In the books it was a pretty quick fight that people are forgetting. Most fights in the 1st book are quick. Percy’s sword is made of a material that can disintegrate monsters with one slash. Just like Annabeth’s dagger. Being a child of Poseidon also makes you good with a sword. I think this season the fights will be a little less desired just because of the budget. Hopefully next season, if it’s renewed, will have a bigger budget and a little longer episodes.
    There will be more flashbacks to Medusa supposedly so we will see more of her. No idea in what capacity tho. Loved the reaction and can’t wait to see what happens next!

      @@TrophyReacts ok, here's th thing. In th books there's this thing called 'mist'; th mist (also known as th 'duat' in egyptian mythology or 'glamour' in norse mythology) is a supernatural force controlled by th greco-roman goddess hecate that twists a mortal's sight frm seeing monsters, gods, titans n other supernatural occurrences by replacing them w/ things th human mind knows hb n can comprehend. Some mortals can see through th mist as well, including th parents of some demigods such as sally jackson n may castellan. Demigods n mythical creatures can all see through th mist at most times, though sometimes th mist is strong enough to fool even demigods. It's possible to gain th ability to see through th mist, as demonstrated by loki, who removed it frm th eyes of mr. fierro n his wife. For some unspecified reason th mist doesn't completely hide some of th physical features of satyrs n centaurs, leading them to find numerous ways to disguise themselves in th human world. The only reason that I think is legit to be upset about the black annabeth is if you grew up reading these books and YOU where personally a blonde girl fighting the dumb blonde stereotype

    Even if that line was a little dumb

    • @biancaportilho6785
      @biancaportilho6785 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Honestly, I don't care about her being black (if in 2005 she was white blonde to combat the "dumb blonde" stereotype, in 2023, having her black is very important). I was just disappointed that she didn't have blonde braids or gray/blue eyes (since it's something so memorable from the books and that Percy always said) and blonde-haired Percy with blue eyes also left me disappointed, he's more like Will than Percy, (and he is so white, like, they could have sent it to the beach two weeks before filming started or something, and there are hair dyes that aren't harmful😭). I grew up reading these books, so having the author discard these details that he himself emphasized for so long makes me kind of sad. It would be the same as if they made an adaptation of The Selection, and America wasn't red hair. Would it change history? Ofc no, but I bet it would make a lot of people who care about that detail sad.
      But despite everything, I'm loving it, the only thing that has really bothered me is more related to the issues of image direction and soundtrack. Also, Gabe not being like in the books, It's good to have Sally being empowered from the beginning, but I bet that means Gabe in the series won't have the same ending as in the books, since they're not the same (Which sucks, because when I saw the actor that was cast, I was like "omg, he's perfect for Gabe! I can't wait to see his end on the show!!")

    The backstory for Medusa in the Percy Jackson universe pulls from the Ovin myth, where Poseidon seduced Medusa on the floor of Athena’s temple and Athena cursed Medusa as punishment.
    What Rick changed to make it more kid friendly was that in the original myth, Poseidon raped Medusa. In the Percy universe, it was consensual. Either way, it shows that Medusa was wrongly cursed and was a victim that became the villain

    12:36 it was actually a gift, Poseidon challenged Athena and lost the city of Athens to her so he took it out on her high priestess Medusa by R-wording her, knowing that by the rules of the pantheon she would be punished, and because he is a god and brother of Zeus Athena didn't have the power or authority to punish him. Knowing that after her punishment Medusa would be casted out and would be vulnerable to men who would hurt her the same way Poseidon did Athena bless her and gave her power so that no man could ever hurt her again and that any that tried to do so would be turned to stone.

    I think the reason why we don't really see as much bonding between annabeth & Percy with grover personally is because grover is already very close to the both of them, having known Annabeth since she was seven and becoming best friends with Percy early on.
    As opposed to Annabeth and Percy's dynamic where its all very new and you have annabeth who is so in-tune with the world and just knows everything and Percy who's so new and doesn't know the rules yet, which makes their relationship more engaging. Also if you know Athena and Poseidon lore, Percy and Annabeth kind of clashing in terms of personality is something that's kind of connected to their parents even though Annabeth and Percy become close and besties regardless.

    At least Poseidon is the overcompensating dead-beat parent who provides some help when Percy is near water, she only interferes with Annabeth and her children (who mind you, she willingly brings into the world by consciously creating them) to basically let her know she doesn't gaf about her unless she achieves great things like Annabeth is her employee and not her daughter.

    I'm huge fan of the books and from the point of adaptation, the series is great, close to the original, has canonic details when it comes to the world of Riordanverse,
    But...
    It's a pity that such amazing and interesting events are shown so... boring. Every fight feels too quick and anticlimactic (except mb the minotaur one), jokes are very few and majority of screentime is just talking and giving exposition. Even in movie adaptation, which is not very good to say the least, there is some kind of action, jokes and it feels enjoyable and fun.
    This tv series lacks fun. I appreciate accuracy and heart that was put in the show, but I really, really hope they improve action, jokes, fight choreography and make it to the 2nd season. Fingers crossed.
