The cast is actually the right age. As the seasons goes on, it's gonna awesome to see Percy and other demigods grow up and develop. After all, It is a coming-of-age story to its core. They changed some stuff but overall it's pretty accurate so I love this episode. I'm just so happy they kept all the important scenes like the opening monologue being the first page of the book.
We cannot fail to mention how the mother was portrayed... In the movie it looked like a victim and here in the series, a smart woman who has that despicable man in her hand.
@@arianaking3009that makes sense because if I remember correctly in the book Percy realized Gabe hits his mom when he’s not around. So sally for sure didn’t want Percy seeing all that
@@erikperhs_ to be fair he might be shown to be as bad as he is in the book yet but he still controls where she goes by letting her use HIS car and he checks who she’s talking too by answering her phone. He also seemed ok with Percy getting expelled for attacking someone so who knows if that’s a hint that he’s ok with Percy doing something that he himself would do/has done. Remember Percy only realizes Gabe hits his mom until after his quest
Yeah if they do this then they may not do the whole Medusa head thing. I think that was like the funniest joke in the book. Just how sassy Percy was and how like he stood up and kinda made a fool out of the gods
And I dont like that. The movie Gabe was perfect, he looked smelly and an asshole unlike tv series Gabe. He's supposed to be insufferable and I didn't get that here. That's how he was portrayed in the book.
My favorite things about these adaptations are the details you can notice as a fan of the original material. Example: In the book, Sally works for a stars-and-stripes themed candy store, and Gabe had an argument with her one time about whether or not blue food exists, so she made it a point from then on to make all of Percy’s birthday cakes and food-related gifts blue. In the show, she gives Percy blue candy as a present, and just seeing that brought this indescribably dorky smile to my face.
I love that they kept the humor. The humor is like, one of the most iconic things from the books for me and I was so scared that they were gonna make it too serious or dark and I’m so glad that they kept the humor
some people are saying gabe isnt mean enough here, but i disagree. you dont have to be violently abusive or a mustache twirling villain to still be a shitty person
@@blueskybelyr I can't say this from experience, but apparently it's accurate to real abusive people, it's not 100 percent all the time, most children don't know how bad it is until later.

It is LITERALLY how Percy describes it in the books "maybe cost 90 cents at the store" That kind of attention to detail is amazing, especially since I totally forgot about that and was envisioning a fountain pen, lol. People saying Gabe should be more outwardly abusive clearly haven't read the books in a while. Percy had NO IDEA that his mom is being physically abused until the end of the book, and he's not an idiot, so clearly Gabe was at least trying to keep up appearances when Percy was home (like 3 months of the year). Also abusive people usually don't broadcast the fact they're abusing someone to their family.
Thing is, Sally actually was shown to give some visual cues in the book that are characteristic of a victim. Here she literally gets up in his face and deals with his whining in 5 seconds. That is not how a victim behaves, not even close.
Too Goofy? Nah, you just let that inner child die. All those moments of "I don't remember that in the books." Nah, it's there. The movies are shite. You're better off forgetting everything you know from them. They are nothing like the actual source material
I’m 27 and very much enjoying the fact that the main character is 12, to me the age range reminds me of the first Harry Potter film. So it gives me nastalga there. Percy Jackson books were actually very silly but also had its serious moments.
Yeah, I watched both episodes and the humor is not there. It is almost taking itself too seriously, like how studios would try to ground properties in reality. I know we have "the normal world" vs "the magical world" but how it is visually presented doesn't sit right with me.@@Kbax3614

I’ve been a fan of the books for over a decade now. After this series being overlooked, mocked, and constantly being compared to Harry Potter, to see my fav reacting channels reacting to one of my favorite franchises and giving it the respect and love it deserved warms my heart.
right lmao, also I think they may be conflating the movies and books, which is understandable, but c'mon! Rick Riordan is actually working on this one, he HATED the movies and begged them not to release them as the script was, and even pointed out hating they aged up the characters (which, same)
Percy is 12 in the first book his age is correct for the books. It wasn't done to appeal to kids these days, it was because that's how old the character is. Logan Lerman played a 16 year old Percy because Hollywood made the terrible decision to age him up so they could do the romance sooner. I love Logan. But not as Percy when he first starts out. He's perfect for an older teenage Percy, like 16-18, the Percy we see in the second series. But not Percy for the first few books where he's a kid. It's not till the last book of the first series that he turns 16 so for the entire first series of books, Logan was too old to play Percy.
I think the second episode is great so keep watching guys and I hope it gets better. I need to reread the books. Even as an adult I think it’s a fun series to read.

Oh so I’m older than you guys cuz I was a sophomore in high school when the first one came out. I thought you were all older than me. Lol And yeah I read all the books loved it and I was like oh shit this I think is better than Harry Potter and ik that’s blasphemous. lol I mean I even have a tattoo of the Slytherin snake. So but I was like oh my god this series is so fucking good. I was so pissed when they did the movies dirty. I was like this is literally neck and neck with Harry Potter. But I didn’t like comparing them cuz it hurt my heart but I’d say there’s way more action and adventure in this which makes this series so fun and keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time. Harry Potter is more dramatic and slower paced which is fine. It just depends on peoples preferences but I love them both sooooo much. So I hope they finally do this justice. I’m praying crossing my fingers. I’m also thinking of reading the whole series again. Cuz I own only some of the books. And I’ve only read Percy Jackson and Harry books all the way through only once. But I freaking love Greek&Roman Mythology too. And this made me fall even more so in love. ❤❤❤
I was obsessed with Harry Potter growing up, and then Percy Jackson came along and joined that place in my heart. Now, as an adult writer, I can confidently say the Percy Jackson series is far better written, but no shade to anyone who prefers the former. And hey, at least the author of PJ is a genuinely good and progressive guy, meanwhile JKR is.... despicable. Heartbreaking to find out, but makes sense in hindsight. PJO deserved SO much more attention and the movies killed that potential for mainstream audiences to get into the books. I'm so SO thrilled Rick gets to write/direct this show to finally make his story come alive in his vision :D
22:43 I agree! I personally do think it’s a bit childish, and if it had been made 6-8 years ago, I’m sure my opinion would be different. Despite that, I’m really loving it so far. Many lines said were straight from the book, and they even showed the Pegasus in the first ep. It gives me a lotttt of hope for this series. I also really really loved Logan Lerman as Percy Jackson, I thought he was amazing for the role and seemed very genuine. Kid Percy I feel misses some tones in his lines that should be there. It just really sucks that the movies went so wrong, so we never got more of Logan’s Percy. Sometimes I wish the movies had never been made purely so that I’d have nothing to compare this series to. I just am so cautious of loving this series, the movies hurt with how jumbled they were, and I don’t want to love this show and it not be renewed. Anywho. I’m so sorry for the essay. Just wanted to share my thoughts! I loved the video, thanks again for posting it!!
They cut so much from both movies and changed the second one I wanted to scream. The books are so good the people that worked on the movies should never touch movies or shows adapted from books. Same goes for the Inheritance series by Christopher Paolini. Those books were fantastic, and the movie cut and changed a lot that the fans had the same reaction to Percy Jackson movies. While I normally would recommend watching a movie to make your opinion on it not in this case. Just read/listen to the books and forgo the movie Eragon.
Ngl, they robbed Sally Jackson's character in this adaptation. In the books, she marries Gabe and endures his abuse out of love for Percy, which highlights her incredible sacrifice and strength. By wattering Gabe down to just 'annoying' in this show, they completely undermine Sally's struggles and the depth of her character. The changes feel like they miss the core of what makes Sally such a powerful and selfless character. This shift in characterization undermines not just her sacrifices, but also Percy’s growth to some extent. Not to mention Percy killing Gabe with Medusa's head in this version is very much unwaranted, and Percy comes across as a psycho, murdering his former stepfather simply cause they argued at times... Taking all of that away for a more modernized approach feels like a disservice to the original source material. Not to mention blatant hypocrisy on Riordan's behalf.
So damn cringe, unbelievable. The hell with those amateur casting, their acting was just so bad, especially the three main ones. I can't even finish the half episode. I'm just gonna reread the books
I guess people are allowed to just be wrong but I feel like you just wanted to hate this bc the actors are literally the characters and I say this as someone who just finished rereading lightning thief and am halfway through rereading sea of monsters
I couldn’t even get through the second episode, way too many inaccuracies and the only characters who look anything like how they are described in the books are Percy and sally. The entire reason the movies failed is because they tried way too hard to be relevant to pop culture and changed so much that they were unrecognizable from the books. They’re doing the SAME THING AGAIN. I gave up on the entire series halfway through episode 2, the clunky dialogue and terrible animation also make it nearly impossible to watch.
Well, if you want accuracy, you should be complaining about Percy too. He's supposed to have black hair and tan skin, but of course you would never complain about a white, blond kid with blue eyes right?
@@erikperhs_ We do complain about him too though. But different hair colour is kinda less noticeable than being a different race. The thing is, hair is an easy thing to fix, just get some dye or a wig. Which in a way makes it worse. They couldn´t even get the small details right.
@@johnnyskinwalker4095 Honestly I get why you think it’s kiddie because at the start of the series Percy is 11 😭. I’d say keep watching because it will get a lot more mature as Percy ages and if they ever get to Hero’s of Olympus saga it’ll be quite mature.

-I lamment your disappointment dear Wolf. But neither Thanatos nor his sisters are meant to reap him. The void that is chaos will come for this version of the Pantheon too. His soul is not meant to be collected by them, otherwise he falls with everyone else.
-...I hope at least the son of the lesser one is more entertaining !
-Those who resist their Fates usually are dear Wolf.
YES
Walker is great.
It's only he's second or 3rd thing he's acted in.
🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
Spoiler it couldn’t have been avoided. Cough certain god had other plans 😊
So damn cringe, unbelievable. The hell with those amateur casting, their acting was just so bad, especially the three main ones. I can't even finish the half episode. I'm just gonna reread the books
What!? Lol
I guess people are allowed to just be wrong but I feel like you just wanted to hate this bc the actors are literally the characters and I say this as someone who just finished rereading lightning thief and am halfway through rereading sea of monsters
@@kayleighjones7669ikr! The sass is immaculate, I have no complaints
"amateur" they're children
I couldn’t even get through the second episode, way too many inaccuracies and the only characters who look anything like how they are described in the books are Percy and sally. The entire reason the movies failed is because they tried way too hard to be relevant to pop culture and changed so much that they were unrecognizable from the books. They’re doing the SAME THING AGAIN. I gave up on the entire series halfway through episode 2, the clunky dialogue and terrible animation also make it nearly impossible to watch.
Womp Womp
@Itsupimupim crying these people think they know these books better than the actual author
@Itsupimup Well screw Rick and his empty promise of a FAITHFUL adaptation.
What kind of tv show choice is this? lol
A good choice duhhh cause I’ll be tuning in.
@@betteryourlife865 that's OK, enjoy what you like but it's way too kiddie for me
@@johnnyskinwalker4095 Honestly I get why you think it’s kiddie because at the start of the series Percy is 11 😭. I’d say keep watching because it will get a lot more mature as Percy ages and if they ever get to Hero’s of Olympus saga it’ll be quite mature.
@@johnnyskinwalker4095I mean it is a kid view point show but a lot of us older people read these books or watched the movies. It’s okay to enjoy things in your life if that’s something you want to see in action.
I mean Percy is 12 in the beginning lol is like dismissing Harry Potter because of the first two movies/books
