A lot of my family are creative types, mostly musicians, and boomers used to live venues with very minimal YT experience. Like, they’ll have a channel with a bad live recording posted every year and a half. A few are coping with quarantine by not only coming to grips with having to shift their career to an online space, but really embracing it. They are so innocent of Internet culture and I can warn them of the pitfalls and horror stories, but till now I’ve struggled to convey how weird the dynamic of being a brand gaining a following the parasocial relationships and just... all the ways things they’re familiar with in a very different sphere are warped by TH-cam. The weirdness of it.
This video is a gift. All the dry instructional information I collected for them was missing something. But this. This is the tone piece that brings it all together. From now on when one of them asks me to find them primers on now to get started I’m including this as the cover video.
And if one of my very much not online relatives whose livelihood doesn’t depend on them adapting to working in an online space just asks me if they should try it for fun and they don’t even have an idea of what they’d be making yet, I won’t discourage them, but I am going to reply with this video. Their reaction will be so helpful in deciding how to advise them from here. Plus I just want to send this to my older relatives without comment at any opportunity where it’s even vaguely relevant in context.

@@hypertime179 MacBooks use 16:10, though I don't see it catching on for other PCs. I'll admit though, that here are a few benefits, including making more space for larger track pad on the bottom half, without making the device significantly wider.
Another strange thing is that Most iPads use the old-school 4:3 ratio for some reason. (The outlier is the iPad Pro with the super memorable 683:512 aspect ratio which is 0.065% skewed from 4:3.) Honestly for desktops, wider is better.
