Watch a full tutorial as a 2023 Toyota Tacoma will have a new pair of Alpine coaxial speakers installed in the rear doors. We will be using the Alpine Type S 6.5" coaxial for better audio quality.
Note: This vehicle wasn't equipped with JBL from the factory - If you have JBL, the OEM speaker are 2 ohm, so if retaining the factory amp, you will need a 2 ohm aftermarket speaker to replace it with. If you install a 4 ohm speaker with the JBL amplifier, it was be less sensitive and thus appear quieter. Recommended speakers for JBL replacements also linked below.
This video applies to Toyota Tacoma models for years 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024. This video also includes door panel removal, wiring, and installation.

Is there any reason you don’t use the coaxial speakers for the front doors as well?

What about the part where Toyota attenuates the rear channels? They put out about 5% of the front volume and like they're under big pillows, like Angrybudd said. Forums say it's normal. But if it is normal, why did Toyota even bother installing rear speakers? I say it's a widespread defect.

Do all aftermarket speakers need brackets or can you possible get by without them for certain speakers?

You need some sort of bracket to mount them back to the door. These Metra ones are made specifically for the Toyota speaker sizes so work the best, but you can also just use the cheap Toyota stock paper speaker, and just cut out the paper to leave the plastic bracket behind to reuse

So you need the Metra 72-8104 for the front doors and the 72-8109 for the rear doors?

Will replacing the speakers increase the volume? My stock rear speakers have low volume when using fader to rear

Volume is generated by power and ohm load. It depends if you have JBL vs base audio too. If adding this to the factory audio power, no, it won't be louder unless you add a lower impedance speaker, however, that can also cause oem equipment to overheat. Replacing the speaker on factory power will clean up the quality of the sound. If you want more power, add an amplifier.

I just replaced all for speakers with eh Kicker KS series. I do see a difference in the front speakers.....only when I turn it up load but the year's are still very quiet. So by adding an amp, ( which I plan to do ) it will make the rear's have much more volume/ loudness?
