@@marilynmitchell2712 Who said anything about forbidding it? It's a person's choice. It's also wrong to force someone to eat meat when they just don't want to, even if they're 'allowed' to. No one is forbidding any food. It's a personal choice and they don't have to eat it if they don't want to. Don't make them feel otherwise.

I'm a fairly conservative reformed Christian and I went began cause meat eggs and dairy stated causes serious health issues in my early 50's. I know thats the cause because when I switched to an exclusive "whole food plant based diet" all the sickness disappeared. So you can eat a vegan diet and be Christian. Remember, God created the world to eat a vegan diet in the garden and will return the world eventually to that status.
But "Veganism" is like religion to those who don't know Jesus yet.

  • @susanmarschner2237

I've been vegan for 27 years since 1997 and I still am. For me it was/is about the animals, nothing spiritual. And if I'm honest, I never even liked the taste of meat growing up as a child. I don't attach any biblical meaning as to why I'm vegan. I know many Christians who eat animals and they are my brothers and sisters in Christ, so I do not judge them at all. In fact, I don't judge anyone based on their dietary choices. That's not biblical. What is troublesome lately for me are (ironically) the vegans. It was one thing when I was in the new age, nobody paid much attention to me being vegan. Now that I'm a born-again Christian (and conservative), I am getting attacked by vegans screaming that Jesus was a vegan (I know He wasn't), that He and I think they claim John the Baptist too were Essenes (I know this is also incorrect) and that if I'm not twisting/perverting Scripture, I'm part of the problem. Seriously. They even had a documentary (or rather mockumentary) blaspheming the crucifixion (claiming that Jesus died on the cross because he "freed" the animals). It's sad to see these well intentioned (but then again, the road to hell is paved with good intentions) but utterly angry and misinformed activists attacking not only those who eat animals, but other vegans too. I never thought I'd hear myself say this, but I now see much of veganism as a cult. And yes, whether vegan or not, we should be good stewards of all of God's creation, but do so in a way that is kind and charitable to our fellow humans.

Amen! I can really relate to everything you said. I also eat plant based as a Christian and as I had my faith as my foundation, I never got sucked into any of the spiritual side of things/ speciesism etc. It really is sad how the vegans try to twist scripture to fit their narrative and I’ve always seen how people can make veganism their whole identity and religion! It is very sad indeed and I’m sorry to hear about the backlash you have received. I totally understand if people feel the need to break away from being restricted in the diet, especially if they have a history in new age etc, but it’s nice to know there’s still Christians who eat a plant based diet out there. :)

@@lilychandler6627 what is wrong with the idea of speciesism ? That just means people don't rank animals lives as being less important because they are not cats or dogs or humans. This doesn't mean they are treated exactly the same but that they should all have the right to live free from harm just as humans should have. How is this that different as "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you". I don't want to be killed in front of my family and so I am not going to pay someone else to kill animals when I don't have to be eating them to survive.

    • @lilychandler6627

@@lillypilly6440 I’m sorry if I maybe didn’t quite word everything as clearly as I could have. Yes, I agree with you that the actual idea of treating all living things with pretty much the same amount of respect is totally a good, wonderful thing. I just meant how some vegans will see their own life as the same amount of worth as a non human animal. Which as a Christian, I can’t subscribe to that ideology. Which in turn, some may call me speciesist for that. So I just mentioned the term speciesism as an umbrella for what that can all mean in the vegan world.
If I’m honest, it does sadden me when people feel the need to step away from the diet, because as you said, in this day and age there isn’t really a need to eat any animal products and cause unnecessary harm and killing of animals. But I also understand that so many things can be stumbling blocks for people. I have not lived the lives of Jac and Doreen and have not been caught in the deception of new age for years. Although I still believe most people in the west in the 21st century could thrive on a whole foods plant based diet and we could save so many animals and help our environment, it’s between them and God. And I have to respect that and give it to God. As they stated, in the Bible there are no laws for us today that prohibit us from eating certain foods. I think one of the most important things we can do as Christians is educate others about the atrocities of farming, and encourage people to at least start cutting down their animal product consumption and how we can be better guardians for animals and the planet God has made for us to live on. I do understand how painful it is that some people have to eat and use animals. And some have to do so survive especially in 3rd world countries, but I once again have to give it to God. All I can do is my own bit and help educate others, but I have to trust that God knows what he is doing while we are still in this fallen world. I know there will be a day when there is no more pain, suffering or death. I know you still may not agree and that is fine. But hopefully that helps explain where I’m coming from.

Probably 15 years ago I started eating eggs every day for breakfast. Really like them. But, I was aware of studies decades ago that followed a group of doctors who regularly ate eggs. They had a higher all-cause mortality rate. I just blew that information off and enjoyed my eggs. Now I am aware of even more studies showing health problems with eggs. I've still got some in the frig, but I'm heading back to oatmeal for breakfast. I have no health conditions, but I think we need to take care of these bodies. Oxalate is an issue I heard about some years ago when an actor had kidney stones related to almonds he was eating. Again I blew it off. I ate 1.5 oz of almonds every day for a couple of decades, and for snacks. Love them. Recently I saw a case-study video about a woman who developed kidney problems eating cashews. The problem was oxalate crystals in her kidneys. I finally decided I needed to stop eating almonds. Just yesterday I learned about the high levels of oxalate in spinach, so I'm now aware of those, and also am now aware of low oxalate foods that are preferable. Most plant foods are low in oxalate with the exception of spinach, almonds, cashews and Brazil nuts. Everything we consume can cause problems: eggs, butter, oils, meat as well as some vegetables. If you want to optimize your health, some nutritional knowledge is important. Or you can just ignore all that and eat a wide variety of foods, not overdoing anything. Then you will likely be fine though maybe not optimal. But no one is going to live forever anyway.

It is utterly amazing how complicated you both have made this issue. We became vegetarians 50 years ago because we simply could not afford meat. We quickly realized that we no longer even wanted meat, that we preferred vegetables and bean stews etc. Over the years our reasons for maintaining this diet have changed, that reason now being the difference between digestive tracks. The tracks of carnivores is short and straight to enable meat to pass through their system quickly and not rot. The tracks of plant eaters, cows and humans etc, is long and twisted, because there is no danger of anything rotting. Also the veg/vegan diet is healthier, requires less land and therefore feeds more people, and on and on. I am 76 now and look 50. I have no doctor and am rarely sick, so this way of eating is definitely for me. None of the complexity presented in this TH-cam.

You are not educated on digestive systems. We do not have the digestive system of herbivores. First off, herbivores have a large alkaline stomach perfect for microbial fermentation of fiber. Humans (like other carniverous mammals) have acidic stomachs that cannot digest fiber but are excellent at breaking down meat for digestion. Herbivores also have a large hindgut which can further digest fiber. Humans have a small hindgut that digests fiber very poorly.

I took a nutrition class in college which was very informative, and I've learned more over the years. Recently I've been exploring Dr. Greger's website and channel. I've become aware of many research paper about nutrition and certainly that is starting to affect my nutritional sources. I'm definitely trending more towards vegan eating. It is purely for health considerations: I think we do have some responsibility to take care of our bodies, not only in what we eat but also in our lifestyle. For me, that is as far as it goes: healthier food choices. I have been eating whole foods for almost 20 years now, so no change there, just a shift in which whole foods I choose. Being a vegan or vegetarian doesn't mean you are eating healthy. A diet of French fries and white bread is vegetarian, but not healthy. But, if veganism is causing someone to go astray spiritually, then that is a problem and needs to be corrected. Better to die and enter heaven as a carnivore than go to hell as a vegan.

I appreciated this conversation so much! I was a very long time vegetarian, then vegan (vegetarian 10 years, then vegan for over 20 years). I was very passionate about my beliefs, and wanting to stop animal cruelty. It was never a burden for me to not eat animal products, because I did it out of love.
However, my health did suffer over the years, even though I was careful about trying to get all my necessary nutrients. I rationalized it and made excuses, not wanting to admit my diet was making me ill.
It was actually becoming a believer in Christ in 2021 that for the very first time made me begin to question my veganism. Once I started studying the Bible, and understanding what Jesus taught and the way he and the disciples lived, I realized I was hurting myself with my diet unnecessarily! I also realized, and this was hard to admit, that veganism had become an identity and an idol for me. I never realized that before, until God showed me.
It was hard to let that identity go, "I am vegan". But knowing my TRUE identity is in Christ, is what enabled me to let go of that false identity and idol.
My very first animal product was 2 fried eggs! The next was organic goat yogurt. I thought I would cry, and possibly throw up from eating them, but interestingly I didn't. I trusted God completely, and I knew I was doing the right thing. My digestion was fine, no problems at all, and I didn't cry!
It's now 3 years later, and I am feeling much better physically, and even emotionally and spiritually. I of course still care deeply about animals, and I buy my animal products as responsibly as I possibly can (availability, financially, etc).
I thank God for saving me, and for teaching me my true identity in His Son, Jesus!

When you were vegan you were not eating a properly balanced diet. Or you had gut problems but this was not caused by the plant based diet. You do not need eggs and dairy to be healthy. I'm sorry by you are just kidding yourself for other reasons which I don't know. Please do not bring Jesus into this as an excuse. You are exploiting and harming animals no matter where you buy them. I've been vegan, I've been vegetarian, and I've been a carnivore. My body felt it's best when I ate raw vegan. In my humble opinion, God created us to not eat animals, but because of sin, he allowed it. Eating vegan doesn't mean you're New Age. Currently, I'm a carnivore, but once I get my brain mentally ready, I will be vegan again because that's how my body performs at its best. It has nothing to do with who I worship. Keep God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit at the forefront of everything you do, and that's all that matters!! God Bless everyone!

I'm glad Doreen mentioned factory farmed and ethically raised meat. I do think it's important to note that a lot of people cannot afford to buy that. That is one of my reasons for eating a vegetarian diet. Perhaps we could afford to buy humanely slaughtered meat occasionally, but it wouldn't leave any money to tithe or give to the poor. Our budget is very tight even though we are debt free and live frugaly. People really need to think about this. I think having a healthy diet is important, but I've seen a lot of women become slaves to healthy, organic and "natural" living (this can happen to vegans or "carnivores") and put it above everything else. Eat the best diet you can, but don't become enslaved to it and put it above giving. Our bodies are temporary, giving to spread the gospel is eternal.

    • @Desiree_Rose
      @Desiree_Rose 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

Adding that by enslaved I mean they are scared, worried, put their family in debt, don't tithe because they "can't afford it", etc. If not being able to afford organic food or natural fiber clothing is keeping you up at night fearing for your kids lives...you're enslaved. (And yes, I've seen this a LOT)

I do have a question that Doreen touched on. The argument HAS been made that it would make sense why God gave animals for food after the flood, because, like Doreen said, their primary food source had become scarce beings all plant life had been destroyed. Is there some truth to that, though? That's what SEEMS to make the most logical sense rather than starve....
What would your all's thoughts be on that? Because, I've heard it said that while God's original design was for us to eat from the seed-bearing plants, animals were given later due to the circumstances changing... but that initially, God's design was for our diet to be as He intended in Genesis 1:29... Is that true?

I’m someone who has been on the other side of the fence when it comes to veganism and I have wanted to tell you this that much of the reason why we have a lot of problems with the factory farms is because of the corruption within our government especially within the bureaucracy that has destroyed much of the family farms that used to raise livestock and replaced them with the factory farms throughout the countries and if you look at what is happening now in the Netherlands you can see how it has happened.
The sad thing is that if you care about this issue it’s not enough to take care about how you spend your money as you also have to be careful with who you vote for.

I think something many don't realize is that the level of radiation we are now exposed to thru 5G helps to demolish red blood cells in addition to a whole other host of issues as the human body wasn't meant to withstand such high levels of radiation. I've had to start including red meat and all kinds of high iron foods due to becoming anemic from radiation exposure. Also the clay of earth from which we are made has high iron content. The Seventh Day Adventists are famous for their vegetarian/vegan dietary restrictions. It turns out, there are all types of Seventh Day Adventists from strict vegans to vegetarians to lacto-ovo-vegetarians to pescatarians to semi-vegetarians to omnivores. This neat categorization plus excellent record keeping lent itself well to several famous health studies which examined health outcomes depending on the different categorizations. As you moved from the omnivore category towards the strict vegan category, health outcomes like cardiovascular disease and diabetes went down. There was a clear correlation between worse health outcomes and eating more meat and dairy products. I think we all owe the Seventh Day Adventists (90,000 participated) gratitude for their willingness to participate in these studies.

I align with many Christian principles. I feel Christ's esoteric teachings are a guide. I prefer learning of Christ through Rudolf Steiner's teachings. The Path of the Rose Cross (Rosicrucian) has truly influenced my life. Jesus taught humanity not only how to live but also how to ascend.
The Bible is important, but don't you think it could have been co-opted by the "powers that should not be" of the early years?
As a vegan of 15 years, I used to push veganism onto others. Through my esoteric studies (and my alignment with Christ), I realize that it is immoral to influence /restrict the Free Will choices of any human. All humans possess Free Will, which must always be respected. With that said, I feel certain "powers that should not be" may have added words to the Bible to keep Humanity from ascending. A diet of raw fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds is all humans need. Many feel ill when nourishing themselves this way, but as the toxins are released (beautifully depicted in the Essene Gospel of Peace), vital energy within the body is released. This energy helps one focus, maintain equanimity, and see the positive more easily in the world. There is a middle path.

@@naturallawhealth9272 the Christ in esoteric teachings is not real and does not exist. Friend, Rosicrucianism and its teachings are opposed to God and the Gospel, and those teachings lead to hell.
God is the creator of all things. His invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. He is Holy, meaning He is set apart and perfect in every way. We have all rebelled against this holy and perfect God who has given us every good thing we have ever received. All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. The wages of sin (meaning the payment due for our sin) is death. Sin has separated us from God. Apart from Christ our deserved destiny is a very real place called hell with torment and weeping and gnashing of teeth.
How do we, rebellious sinners, become reconciled with this perfect God? The free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus. God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life.
Jesus Christ, TRULY GOD and TRULY MAN, was born to a virgin, lived a perfect and sinless life that we could never live (and have not lived) and died on the cross, bearing our sins and God’s wrath for those who will believe in Him. He died on the cross, was buried, and rose on the 3rd day and is now seated at the right hand of God making intercession for those who believe in Him. He is the one and only mediator between God and man, and there is no other name given among men by which we must be saved. We are saved by having faith in Christ alone (not our own good works or anything else) to save us, and by turning from our sins (repentance) and to the true and living God.
Jesus Christ, and made known in the Holy Scripture, is the Savior, and this Gospel is the only one that can saved.
“But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed.” - Galatians 1:8
“And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.” - 2 Corinthians 11:14

At the time, there weren't a lot of resources about how to get meat ethically either. I feel like there's a few months where I had some health relief since when I started I was careful in trying to eat enough protein, get iron, and other nutrients that vegetarians tend to be deficient in. Before that I wasn't trying to eat a balanced diet at all. But the commonly processed nature of the diet eventually caught up with me.

Sorry, I don't see how being vegan and new age go together.
I am a born again Christian for 43 years.
Grew up on a veal farm. All the saturated fat in meat was making me sick with prediabetes in my early 40's. That pushed me to analyze my diet and lifestyle.
So, I changed my diet for health reasons and followed the science (God is the God of all science). Now the prediabetes is under control after losing 40 lbs, the healthy way.
Changing to a plant based diet was the best decision I made for my physical health.
It is a great way to take care of our bodies, which is the temple of the Holy Spirit.
When a plant based diet is done correctly, you receive all the nutrients needed to live a strong, healthy life. It is so easy to do!
I don't judge meat eaters, most of my family members are omnivores. To each its own.
Being a Christian and plant based (some call it vegan, even though they are not the same) ... I have No cognitive dissonance, just sound body, mind and soul following Jesus' footsteps.
Some people ask, if you reverted, or controlled the prediabetes, why do you stay 'vegan'?
Simple, I stay 'vegan' for my continued health, the animals and our planet that God trusted us with. ❤

In my 20s I was a vegan for about a day lol. I received a pamphlet that showed how farm animals are treated. I didn’t ever want to eat an animal if they were abused like that. I also misinterpreted a scripture that made me think God doesn’t want us to eat animals. So then I declared God doesn’t want us to eat animals, and I was going vegan. But then I started looking at the Bible for more information, and I quickly realized that we are not supposed to forbid eating meat. I realized Jesus ate meat. So I dropped the idea of veganism rather quickly.
Fortunately, right at the same time, I discovered there are ethically raised animal products. So I started getting all my animal products from a health food store. Later on, I started getting raw milk from a micro farmer. The raw milk I buy today comes from a small farm where they allow the calves to stay with their mothers for a good while.
We are fallen beings that live in a fallen world. It can take a bit of humility to realize we are dependent on others animals in order to be healthy. At least we, unlike predatory animals, can choose to be humane about it.
