Right from the early days of Stevie's career he was known as the man who turned down Bowie and 'The man who saved the blues'. And boy did he take on that role!

This song (like many of his songs) has a powerful message when you really look at the lyrics.
And watching you watch Stevie is so much fun. You smile all the way through.
I agree with others, please do "Riviera Paradise", specifically the version from this same show, live in Austin (Austin City Limits). Gorgeous instrumental & it showcases Reese on keyboards.
Stevie dedicates it to "anyone still suffering" & then spins beauty & emotion that touches your soul.
It's been known to make grown men cry.💙☮🌿

"Tightrope" and "Crossfire" were my go songs when getting ready to go paint the town to get my mojo going. Those were the days. Did you hear Reece wearing out that organ in the background. He wrote this song talking about his getting clean if I remember correctly. What I'd give to go back in time to be at this Austin and el Mocambo performances.

This is from Austin City Limits, 1989, completely clean and sober about three years at this point, which is what he and Bramhall wrote this song about.

You're dead right; everything I've ever heard about him supports it--the man was humble in the face of his own enormous gift, and that's a rare thing. Maybe he was humbled BY it. And yes, that could have contributed to his greatness. Wish I could have met him; glad I got to see him perform. Good video! Gotta check out your channel now...

Typically people (justifiably) rave about SRV’s mastery of guitar, and then if you delve a little deeper into the fans you’ll also hear people applaud his vocal delivery (also justifiably).
What you don’t hear as much is people pointing out how great some of his lyrical content is. Couldn’t Stand The Weather, Tightrope, Scratch’n’Sniff, Crossfire, Wall Of Denial. All great songs. When he’s not just doing a standard blues 12 bar thing of repeating the first line and then adding a third to rhyme with the first, he definitely spent a lot of time thinking about the lyrical content.

You're right about Stevie. I was a fan the moment I first heard him. And he was a super nice guy. I met him in Nashville two months before he was killed. The only negative thing I have ever said about Stevie is when he played behind his back. That ain't easy to do. It takes an incredible amount of talent to do it, but it was so unnecessary, especially for him. Was it showing-off? He certainly had nothing else to prove. I never understood that part of his performances, but then again, who am I to question Stevie? I just never liked it. It didn't add anything to his unparalleled ability as far as I'm concerned.
