Stevie play 7 hours a day 7 days a week 365 day's a year. When he was little he used to sleep with his guitar. He did play in his sleep. He play behind his back over his head behind his shoulders in front and side to side horizontal on the ground with his teeth. And 1 handed. I say that's pretty good. Little wing was in 83. Stevie was DEEP in his alcohol and drug addiction. Tightrope was in 1989. Stevie was now sober and playing better than ever. Tightrope is actually about the struggle of addiction. When Stevie got clean, he was afraid that his guitar playing wouldn’t be as good. But when he started playing again, he said it felt like his whole life he’d been playing the guitar with boxing gloves on and that it felt like someone had finally taken them off.
Stevie went through a time that the industry tried to put him in more of a pop music genre but you could tell he seemed happier playing live ,doing 10 minutes of chickenfoot soup style winging it off the cuff music where he could display his emotions through his guitar unfiltered and unrestricted, his music is an event that you must see ,feel,taste hear and even smell to truly appreciate, it was medicine for the soul .
It's so refreshing to watch someone who truly appreciates great music. You get it and I appreciate you. Stevie gave us his soul in every lick and bend of the string . The complexity of what he does is just higher on every level .
Brings back some serious emotions when I see him. I was at that show as a 17 year old kid at the Elcambo in Toronto. Seen him front row in a tiny upstate NY venue with opener Johnny Winter. Last song Jimi Hendrix Voodoo child. two weeks later he was killed in the Helicopter and another great one gone.
The best version of this is the studio / album version imo, you can very clearly hear the genius. Stevie's ability really showed when he had no distractions.
This is one of the most masterful performances of his, imo. His singular technical ability lets it just flow through him from whatever plane into which he's plugged. Sublime.

Growing up with a mother who told me she never wanted me and beat me you grow up wondering what you did and why this happened, I myself fell into pills to numb the pain and Close my mind so I didn't have to think about it. Stevie Ray's story really touched my heart because like me we fought to survive and came out clean on the other side, when you was killed August 27, 1990 at the young age of 35 it broke my heart like alot if other Stevie Ray Vaughan fans. STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN WAS AND WILL ALWAYS BE THE GOAT.
Little Wing is Stevie. It may be a Hendrix cover, but my first time hearing Stevie was this cover of Little Wing. And I literally, for real, can't listen to it now without getting all weepy.
