This soundcheck was a testament to how strong Double Trouble really was. When and where Stevie went, they never missed a beat. Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon are legends in their own right.
The three songs he did in this sound check was shuttle buttin’ , ain’t gonna give up on love and say what and you gotta to remember this is just a sound check he is better in this than most people during a concert.
NEVER tire of listening to this genius...inc his soundcheck!!! What brilliant luck for US there was someone who recorded it!! I dont think anyone would believe how great he was just doing a check - but here we have the evidence....no words

His base player tells about them walking over to a mall in Canada, Stevie in red pants, floral shirt, conch belt, cowboy hat, says, everybody is staring! Stevie dressed the same on stage or off, a real rock star persona.

Life Without You - Capitol Theatre
Stevie woke up drank his OJ and put on his Cheetah coat and white hat as he stumbled into the studio... He picked up his guitar yawns a couple of times and then magic began.
Sorry to burst your bubble but this was during Stevies cocaine drinking days! The magic was always there cause he’s the goat but trust me he wasn’t drinking orange juice!! Haha
You should see him jamming with Albert King one of the best things I've ever seen bar none. Then him playing Texas Flood with BB King there is so many Jeff Healey and Stevie Look at little Sister. Everyone that was anyone just wanted to play with him including slow hand himself Eric Clapton. Stevie single-handedly saved the blues now and then. The inspiration for many rock players. Thank you Stevie thank you. You may not have been a lighting strike but I'll take your slow burn every single time. One that stays with you forever.
Once again you made me a happy girl with your excellent reaction to SRV, my ALL TIME FAVORITE!!! I cannot wait for your reaction to Life Without You Live from the Capitol Theater. You will be on an even higher level of amazement. So many things happen that are unbelievable. Not giving away any surprises, but watch carefully to when he grins at his crew off stage and what he tells them. Any other performer would have stopped at this point, but SRV just grins and finishes the song. This does happen towards the end of the video. But plenty of other great great moments in this one. ❤️❤️❤️

Definitely check out his masterpiece performance of Riviera Paradise, live in Austin. Reese was spectacular on the keyboard, but Stevie will bring you to tears with the emotions he pours out through his guitar.

Would have paid to have watched that sound check. I saw him live several times and it was an experience I have never forgotten.
I had the privilege of seeing this man and Double Trouble live in concert. Not only did they have to know their instruments, they also had to play with stevie at set standard🤣👍. Awesome player old school for sure.
I'm so happy to hear Professor Wilburn giving attention to the band, and not just focusing 100% on Stevie. Not to take a thing away from Stevie. He was a force of nature. And, Double Trouble was so great, too!! As another commenter nebulae87 said a year ago, Chris and Tommy are legends, too.

SRV never learned to read music and taught himself to play guitar. However, he clearly had been taught music theory and how to build chords because his natural precision in his freestyling only could come from a solid theoretical foundation.
Like in the old saying: "Ballet only can become art after you know the science."
Stevie is a joy to watch, but it makes me sad that he is gone.

You really should check out SRV and Jeff Healey playing "Look at little sister". Two fantastic blues guitarists taken far too soon.
Reese is a great keyboardist. Whipper is the goat drummer, Tommy is the goat bassist, and yes, Stevie Ray is the GOAT guitarist. There will never be anyone better. I love him and miss him every day.
