      Well I guess it depends on what’s considered “big game,” but I’m a surfer to my core, so most of my free time I’m hunting for waves, but during the fall, I just hunt black tails in the mountains behind town. It’s been one of the most difficult challenges of my life getting close to these animals but the adventure is ALWAYS next level! I guess u get out what you put in right?! Dan,
    I really enjoyed video that you did on Broadhead tuning. Recently, while I was hunting, i noticed that my pin was a little to the left of my arrow and my string at rest. I thought I had seen this all in one before, so I made an adjustment when I got back to the camp. And got it in line. I did shoot it add a short yardage because it was dark and I couldn’t see much past the light from the cabin. It shot well and so I thought that’s how it should be. But watching you turn this broad head and show that the pen should be a little to the left, really came home to me as yesterday I hit a deer Left of where my thought on and was not able to recover the Eno. It was a very doable shot, and I should have made a double one yet, but instead, I hit shoulder and was not able to recover Leanna. I wish I had seen your video sooner, because in moving my pin to the right, I move my point of that impact to the left and what I thought was a chip shot. Ended up being a nightmare for me. Thank you for this great video and I hope others are paying close attention to what you’re presenting.

    • @EastmansHuntingJournals
      @EastmansHuntingJournals  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am really sorry to hear that, bowhunting can cause mind games for sure. Yeah the pin will always be out of plane to the left of your arrow in the resting position on a right handed bow. This reflects how much torque your bow has that is caused by the cable guard. -Dan

    Great vid Dan! A lot of people that can’t get a big fixed head to fly great always think it’s the broadhead, when in reality it’s either their bow isn’t tuned, their arrow has problems (not spined correctly, or arrow components aren’t square) or there is a problem with their form. Most times it has nothing to do with the head.

    I find it helps to visualize what is happening (nock left/right). For those new to this issue, I hold one index finger up a few inches in front of my nose (the "string") then with the other hand, form a "V" with my index/middle fingers (the "rest") and hold that out a few inches beyond my single finger. Now, I can visualize where the rest aligns with respect to the string. His description of nock-left, and the adjustment of the rest to correct it, now makes sense.

    • @YoutubeMastersDegree
      @YoutubeMastersDegree 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Good example. How I think of it is like having fletchings on the front of the arrow and the direction the front is pointing will steer the arrow unless the rear fletching is much larger overpowering the front fletching. Hence why very large fletching and or a small folding broadhead are sometimes used to put a bandaid on a poorly tuned bow.

    Been shooting compounds for well over 25 years. Just started using paper tuning about 5 years ago AS A BASE LINE BEGINNING!!! Generally you or someone withyou can see bad arrow flight. The main thing is setting everything straight through the centerline of the bow to start with. If you can video arrow flight that's a good place to start or have someone using binoculars watch the flight. Erratic flight can usually be seen through binoculars. Great video here. Just a simple set up getting it done

    That's it folks, pack it up- this is the bowhunter's bow setup video that everybody needs. I landed on this method after years of ignorance and abject failure (eyeballing arrows for berger hole & cam center, then move sight, then BH tune). I regret ever listening to the "pro shop" that told me to just move my sights for broadheads- that is the absolute worst thing possible, and that shop probably set me back several years of learning. If BH and field points don't hit the same, then the arrow isn't flying straight, and your broadhead won't go into the animal like it should- hard to drive the arrow in when it's hitting sideways.
    That being said, this all assumes you're using a properly spined arrow. Changing weight up front dramatically effects dynamic spine, and things can get really weird if you're underspined. And you always have to have a solid, neutral grip on the bow.

  • @josephfolsom2030
    @josephfolsom2030 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Excellent video. I especially like the parts about looking downward from the top of the bow and aligning (eyeballing) the arrow with the centerline. I don’t know why I have never done that. The other part you explained extremely well is what to do with nock high, low, left, and right.

And I would say this is a good starting now that I could pass down to my son when he is older.But the package was missing the release and a nock was missing from one arrow.Dealing with customer support was terrible. They suggested I buy a new release rather than correct their own quality control issue because it’s to expensive for the. to ship it out from China.Update: manufacturer got back to me and resolved the issue. Thanks once again for another interesting and informative video on a great topic. I admittedly struggle with getting my fixed blade broadheads to fly or hit close to my field points. But that was my fault I switched to a heavier arrow (11.25 gpi at 29 inch draw and 45 grain insert and 100 grain cut on contact broadheads, would have tried 125 or 150 but online and local retailers were out or don't carry) too late in the preseason and only shot those and no field points since that's what I was hunting with.
    20 yards was "fine" but 30 was all over the place and I didn't even sight for 40 and 50. Whitetail woods usually doesn't offer shots more than 35 anyway.
    I am working on getting my old 2006 PSE ready for spring turkey. Not sure if I should switch to a wide cut mechanical for turkey then back to fixed for deer or just stick with the fixed all the way through

    All the experts seem to be 50/50 on whether to chase broadhead or chase field tips when broadhead tuning. I swear I've had both work and not work at different times. The latest that worked for me, on advice of an expert, was chasing the broadhead for right and left, but chasing the field tip for up and down. Is it a matter of the bow? A matter of arrow spine that leans toward weak vs toward stiff? Drop away vs. whisker biscuit? I'm not sure anybody knows. The flight of the arrow truly is mystical 😆

    • @EastmansHuntingJournals
      @EastmansHuntingJournals  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha great comment and so true. I believe it's a matter of arrow spine though. If you don't have the correct spine arrow, this method won't work. -Dan

      Haha… I’m new to all this and I noticed the same thing.
      Expert A: “Chase the broadhead.”
      Expert B: “Chase the fieldpoint.”
      Me: Well that’s just great 🤦‍♂️

      @@ZUnit06I’ve tested it a bunch of times with different heads and diffrent arrows, every time I have had it work with chasing the broad heads, the youtube channel inside out precision makes a great video explaining why, it makes perfect sense

      @hunkersquad Thanks so much… I found the video. I had watched it before so I gave it a watch again. Made sense.
      Would I be able to achieve similar outcomes by doing walk back tuning? Like, if I walk back tune with my broad heads, should that also get my broadhead hitting center with my field points? Or do they achieve slightly different outcomes?

    • @hunkersquad
      @hunkersquad 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ZUnit06 slightly different outcomes, the walk back tuning will just get your broad-heads hitting closer to where they should be at before you start to broadhead tune👍
