We have a first gen C-HR as second car, it's 7 years old and has proven to be reliable, polyvalent and fun to drive, it's the car we've kept the longest too. So for the first time we'll buy a gen 2 of a car we owned. This new version improved what needed to be (tech) while still staying true to the original C-HR. Great job Toyota Europe (Belgium) who developed the car. Can't wait to get it !

I just drove a 1.8 hybrid today. I hate a CVT but I have to say I was quite impressed, it didn't sound as noisy as this sounds in the video

Our new 2024 C-HR arrives next week. We drove to the Toyota dealer for a test drive of the 2024 model in our Mk 1 C-HR and were amazed how Toyota have taken something we love and made it even better !
This new model is amazingly updated. I used to compare our current one to an Airbus in terms of its onboard computer capabilities and smart-ness. The new one is like flying the USS Enterprise ! Thanks for the review.

Pete, A very good review. I road tested the GR Sport last weekend and was suitably impressed coming from a Honda HRV car. I like the GR Sport but do like leather interior (albeit vegan), so I had to order the Premiere edition. Things I like is the cabin, a very nice place to be. I the infotainment system is such an improvement on previous versions. The Head up display that kinda sits on the bonnet just letting you know what you’re up to. Bearing in mind I wanted a car that my wife will easily get accustomed to from her Yaris. The big question that Toyota answered for me was to create a car that has broken this small SUV market mould which all the other Manufactures seem to be sticking to like that is the template all small SUV’s should be. I have been looking for a while now for somebody to offer something that is moving on from the current and I think/hope I have found it, only time will tell.

When I went to wales on a holiday a couple of years ago, our old Peugeot 3008 finally broke down on the road and it had to be scrapped, more than a couple hundred miles from home. My first exposure to this car was sitting in the cramped back seat while we drove the 6 hours back to London, not the best introduction I'll admit 😂but whenever I sat in the front I enjoyed it!

Another great review Pete, and I like that you have a good understanding of the e-cvt drivetrain. I have run a 2 litre C-HR here in Spain for nearly 4 years and averaged 5.3l/100km … efficient, smooth and utterly reliable. It is being replaced in January with the 2 litre AWD GR Sport which is a first for C-HR so should be even more sure footed. The PHEV cannot be combined with AWD currently.

Mahalo for actually explaining what difficulties can arise from using those mirror/rearview cams. I GET it now, cheers! That said, several friends of mine own the 1st-gen of this model, and they like them very much. I've ridden in one of these, too. At the turtle-like speeds the traffic flows here, it's quiet and comfy in the back for this 175cm OAP, lol! Aloha!

Great review.👏👏 Amazing car and I looove the new design 😍🤩 I am a proud owner of the C-HR Orange Edition. It is such fun and wonderful car. Looking forward to the release of the new generation and test drivning. 🤩🤩 One of the features I very much enjoy in the C-HR is the tilt of the middle screen slitely to the left towards the driver. Very nice touch, offers more comfort when drivning and not featured on other car brands. Anyways, I think I will choose the 2.0 L Plug-in Hybrid. Thanks again for a great review.

Hi another good video but your comments about the mirror are “Heads Toyota lose, tails they don’t win” The mirror is an extra on the Excel which comes as part of a package with Heads up. If Toyota did not give the option, some would say “We can’t see out the mirror when there is a middle passenger and because there is not a rear screen wiper, the camera mirror is very handy when the car is wet after being parked in the rain or the window is misted or has a covering of frost. The fact that it has the option of changing to a normal mirror makes it a well thought out option
An interesting point made by another contributor is the conflict of Vario-focal glasses and the camera?
I am selling my I Pace after 5 very happy years to buy the Plug in C-HR so I am going through feelings of excitement and aprehension

Great review as always but the real stumbling block is the price. Did i hear you right 40K plus for the one you reviewed & that's not even the plug in or GR version. Definitely out of reach for your average Joe. Think i'd want something that makes more of a statement for that money. A second hand Mini clubman JCW is for me personally looking a very attractive proposition. Keep up the great content. Can we have some cameo appearances from the pups too!

Since the first Toyota C-HR was introduced, nearly all manufacturers have copied the styling to the point where I struggle to tell most small SUVs apart.
But for £35-40K, I would choose a Citroen C4e with the new 154 hp electric motor and 260 mile claimed range as it is roomer inside and, reportedly, very comfortable.

    • @keithrobson8649

Toyota hybrids don’t have a gear box as most cars. no clutch and no reverse gear. Only one gear in the power transfer device.
It’s very clever engineering but the downside if you want to accelerate quickly the engine revs don’t increase in line with the cars speed as occurs with a conventional gearbox. It’s probably not the system if you are a sporty driver.

    • @HQBProductions
      @HQBProductions ปีที่แล้ว

@@keithrobson8649Hmmm….but it is not only the gearbox…the mangly Atkinson cycle engine sounds like bag of old nails and no fun or refinement unless you are dribbling along to work. It is a mess of ugly car that is hard to drive with even glimpse of enjoyment. 🤨😬

    Hi Ped
Yet another interesting take on a new car. Styling wise I think this would grow on me for sure, the two tone paint job, might take a little longer. Rear passenger room borderline. Gearbox not a fan. Having said that I have always had a soft spot for Toyota over the years, and Mrs P was very impressed when she hired a hybrid to get down to Cornwall couple of years ago. So could be on the radar as a second car.

Hi Pete, I’d like to give you an opinion from the perspective of a retired 68 year old petrol head 😱😂 (which is me btw 😉)
If you de-badged the last 15 or so EV/HEV vehicles on the channel I’d be very surprised if anyone could identify them all 🤔
I’d probably guess the Toyota in the vid was a Honda Civic 🤷🏼
The only one I’ve been mildly interested in is the Volvo EX30 recently shown on Jonny Smith’s channel.
They are all tediously boring (imho)
Please can we have more Ruby Roadster and Mini soft top rebuild content 😎
Yes, I am a miserable old fart, but I still love petrol powered affordable cars 😎

Just checking the prices and the base starts at £35k so add probably £5k for the plugin in hybrid. You can buy a base model of a Peugeot 2008 for £19k. Apart from reliability I don’t see £15k difference in quality with the Toyota. Way overpriced for me.

Very good point about the mirror, people will need to change from distance focus to a display at arm's length. Fine if you're under 40-45 , it is easy to accommodate, not so great for those of us who are older, especially 60+. Varifocals won't cut it either cos you'll be looking thr' distance part of your gls. I imagine Toyota engineers who designed this are in thier 20s and 30s 😂.

I always thought the first one was a bold design that I liked a lot. The CVT gearbox has always put me off as it would drive me nuts that it sounds like it is looking for a gear. On the new one I do like the twin paint like the sporty 206 and 306, the speed of the electric tailgate and the rear view camera system that I got accustomed to in about 5 mins in the Defender. I would need to see the new one in real life to see if I continue to like it but that is not to say your review was lacking and that was a very nice setting that you had to play with it in.

I’ve owned two Chr’s a 1.8 which was awful ‘underpowered’ and a 2.0 which was OK, they had improved the sound proofing and the extra power was welcome, what I wanted in the face lift was,1. rear space FAIL, 2. Rear ventilation, arm rest and USB, FAIL 3. Improved infotainment, ok TICK. I won’t have another, that eCVT is too annoying. As for the PHEV version, it’s looking like 40 miles EV lugged around by the 2.0 CVT screamer, for north of 42k. I have replaced my Chr with a Cupra Born which I absolutely love, it’s an amazing fun, and quality car. Have to say I’m loving EV life.

They are now hitting us with RUC Road User Chargers on plug in's at 3.6 cents per k and for EV's 7.6 cents a k. Later next we are told it will be on all cars. No charge at present on Hybrids, we only buying because of the cost of fuel and don't believe in the Green agenda go talk to China first worlds biggest polluter.

I dislike the two tone colour scheme and I am sure there are a lot of older drivers like me who would feel the same. There are other colour options which are not two-tone, but why do they have the sun roof available only with the two-tone colours? Also, the nicest mag wheels are on the Koba. Why do they insist on the ugly black wheels on the GR Sport? Toyota marketing has a lot to answer for. I love the overall design and would like the top spec but don't want to drive a car with a paint job that looks like I am having a mid-life crisis.

If only the interior was as interesting as the exterior. Looked like a sea of grey and nothing on offer that’s fundamentally different from its rivals. The boot is small and the steeply sloping rear end will further restrict load capacity but I guess buyers will be more impressed with its style rather than practicality. Rear legroom looks tight and together with those small rear windows and the universally dull grey materials, being in the rear seats probably wouldn’t make it an enjoyable place to spend a journey in. I’m sure it’ll sell well - it’s a Toyota and appeals mostly to those who believe the brand offers hassle free motoring and aren’t too bothered about the driving experience.

'EVs don't have any soul". "I want to hear my car'. If that hybrid had a soul it was being tortured in the bowels of hell. My last petrol was a very efficient 1.2 litre 3 cylinder Pug. That had a nice gruff little sound if you stirred it along. In 2024 I would have an MG4 over the Toyota any day any where, no competition.

I all for Toyota's exterior. The two tone paint is fresh a great for younger people. Personally I love it. Cars are SO DULL with Silver, grey, black & white.... gold & black.... really nice. However, Toyota's interiors are so boring. Black on black plastic. At around £40,000 it is clear that petrol cars cost as much as full BEVs. Even the BHP figures are similar to full electric cars. Personally, I prefer the silence of electric cars as it being quiet feels as if the car is a higher quality. Revving engines feels like a low quality car.

A very vanilla car trying to hide the fact with an outlandish paint job!

Did you see the on screen banner I put up each time I said it 🤷‍♂️ I was very short on time and made a simple mistake of misreading my notes as I didn’t have my glasses with me 😬😂

Was listening while doing other things so didn’t see the banners, sorry 👍

It still Amazes me that car manufacturers are Still using Leather for the interiors of their automobiles, when they just as well can use fake leather, or Alcantara. Even vinyl is better than having to kill an animal just to cover the interior of an automobile! We are in the 21st Century, aren't we?

Do you don’t use leather at all ?!

@@PetrolPed I try to stay away from anything made of leather, especially shoes, but no i don't use leather. I've been a long time Vegan for over 30 years. If I bought a classic car that I really wanted, that had leather in the interior, I guess I would have to live with that, but in general, I stay away from anything made of leather. I don't believe in killing an animal to decorate the interior of my automobile. I've already spec'd a few new cars that interest me, and requested Alcantara instead of leather.

First impressions - cut and shunt paint job (hmmmm) weird choice of how to do 2 tone (which I normally like), rear space (noooo), silly pop-out door handles (uncomfortable and a bit rubbish), over all look (designed by a 7 year old, what is it with fussy asses on Japanese cars), PHEV (ahh if the range is decent (50 miles +), that's good - a friend of mine has a hybrid Merc and has done c.80% on electric only over the past 3 years), choice of engines (seems good), TFT vs a mirror (put in the mirror since it is unlikely to break, I would option out), prices (gulp - a bit pricey), driving experience (I'll trust you on that - quite good). One for the list possibly. I can see them selling loads of these.

Hello Peter. Hmmm….I liked the old C-HR from the start and still think it looks fine but this….sorry but what a mess. The front is bulbous and ugly, the daft black rear end destroys any chance of seeing the lines properly and inside..no..it just doesn’t work. M sorry but I think this thing is a big mistake…a bloated Yaris and manages to look cheap and nasty…..the old car was so much better. 😬😬🫣🫣🫣😊
