I loved my ZX6R, rode it for 5 years put over 46K miles on it. It was a full exhaust flashed and tuned beast but I still wanted more. I think getting to a liter bike is just a natural evolution in riding. I went from Ninja 300 to ZX6R to ZX10R and I couldn’t be happier.

I agree 100%....the 600's get you 85-90% the same performance on the street, so the whole "way too much power" argument just makes no sense. To me, someone who rides predominantly around town, is never doing a track day, just rides for enjoyment....a literbike cruises at about 2000 rpm less than a 600. It isnt so dependent that you HAVE to be in the powerband, you have enough torque you can lug the motor a bit and ride a LOT more relaxed than you would on a smaller bike. The liter bikes are MUCH more planted so they are simply more comfortable to ride. Its not like you need all that flickability on the street. THe literbikes are simply way better to be in traffic on than a 600...IMHO...granted I am a big guy and cant stand being on a small bike anyhow. I have had probably 15 literbikes over the years....my favorite ever was my RC51....I recently let my 1199R go and grabbed a Streetfighter V4S so I am getting more "relaxed" in my old age (53)

I agree completely. I’m on my 3rd bike now, been riding since 2017. I loved my 2019 zx6r, it was a nice bike, but between that and my current ecu flashed, Brock’s exhaust 2021 GSXR 1000R, I’d absolutely choose my GSXR. People that say they’re too much, I don’t understand. I’m not sure there’s even such thing as too much, unless someone has no self control. It only goes as fast as you tell it to. I love the effortless acceleration. Yeah they cost more but if too expensive then don’t buy one 🤷‍♂️ If I were going to be traveling a distance, especially on a fast-paced highway I’d rather be on a 1000. Not that a 600 wouldn’t be fine, but a 1000 is just more ready to quickly accelerate if you need to and hums along at speed without even stressing. The power of a liter bike is what attracted me to bikes to begin with. Either way it’s a preference thing though. To each their own ✌️

I agree. I started on CBR600RR, then moved to zx10r. Liter bikes are too much for the street. They also burn so much fuel. That tank lasted me for a day and I was riding at low RPMs because it was a brand new bike. If I were riding my zx10 at high RPMs, the fuel wouldn't last long. It's really pointless to have a liter bike. I did sell both of my bikes, but my next one will be a 600 again and I'm not getting a liter bike anymore.

Only modification, Akra system with MAP and low restriction air filter. The V4 has a very distinctive exhaust note. Bike did not wake up till 3,500 miles. See with all that power on the wheel and crank you would be surprised that most if not all liter bikes are meant for track but since the market for bikes back then was pretty slim most companies agreed on making a street legal 1000cc bike even though they did not intend to in the first place.

If you have a lot of money, if you have a lot of open roads, if you go to track days, if you don't care about obeying speed limits then YES I am with you, a 1000cc/Liter bike is a great daily bike.
Regarding your specific point about the better sports bike for the street, I am with you, the 1000cc is better than a 600cc. I can say, the 800cc-1000cc, 3-4 cylinders, that will be better than the 600cc to maybe 750cc for the "fun" factor for the streets. I have ridden the R6 and I can only enjoy it when I am already doing go-to-jail or revoke-license speeds. 600cc bikes are not really fun on lower rpm and mid rpm rides.
But in general, if someone who has limited funds, least ideal roads, does not go to track days, obeys speed limits...among other factors...then NO. A 1000cc bike, a liter bike, any bike with more than 2 cylinders, any bike above 500cc, any bike with over 50HP, any bike weighing over 200kgs...NOT a great daily rider.

    • @ManCannotRide
      @ManCannotRide 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@kawasaki_kid I may be wrong about this but here in Manila, the highest speed limit is 100kph and according to my research, 25HP is more than enough to get to 100kph but it will need all 6 gears in a 6-speed bike.
On the other hand, say I have a KTM 790 Duke that has 105HP but it only has 2 cylinders, I will be able to reach 100kph on maybe 2nd gear alone. That will be fun because the surge of power is great...
      But...
That is also sad because I know I still have 4 more gears and I have not maximized the rpm range yet.
The only way I can really enjoy a powerful bike is to run the tracks but not everyone has the resources to do that.
So yeah, on the streets, a really good screaming 3-4 cylinder engine with just enough power will be more fun because we can tickle its limits more times than what we can do with a 150HP liter bike.
The ZX25R is a great sports bike for the street if the rider does not want to tickle the cops, yet still, that little Ninja is capable of go-to-jail speeds.

But if you ride semi legal, you never get to pull through even the first gear on a 1000cc.
My 500 does 90kmh in 2nd, that's good enough for a backroad in Europe. And faster and I'd need to go on the Autobahn.
Considering that I don't visit friends who live over 100km all too often and never need to go on the Autobahn, the 500 has been pretty fun sofar.
If you need to go on the highway alot then I can see a 1000, but anything below that it doesn't really make sense to get anything more than 100hp, let alone 50hp imo.

But I also watched a video of a German dude who was in Alabama, roads in the US seem to be huge af and people tend to drive not the speed limit which are already abit higher than they are here. Plus the fact that you really need to want to get pulled over in the US to get pulled over (as it seems unlike in Europe, Germany specifically) where having a car parked somewhere alone attracts the men in blue and could end up you getting your vehicle impounded the comparison and reasoning to if a 1000cc makes sense varies alot.

It’s mostly just an ego thing in my opinion. I have an R1 and Zx6r I can rip both comfortably on the streets. I prefer the 600 because I can stretch it out more than the R1. Mind you I live on an island so there’s not much room to open up liter bikes.

Great topic. I’ve tried to come up with a good reason one is better than the other but like you said, they can pretty much do it all almost the same on the street. I think it comes down to personal preference but mostly skill. And how much you’re willing to spend if you are looking at new bikes. Most of all just have fun

Had no bike, Kawasaki for 27 years, March 19, chance to get a bike, got a 05 650i. Bandit, one very careful, cautious owner, who basically ran it for 15,000 miles, turned out, my late beloved fuel inj. Bandit, was about 58, 59 times more biking joy, than in 84, my nearly new Kawasaki 750 turbo, that I couriered with ??, Countless opporchancities to kick it. Like my 85 GT750 shaft drive, would sit at a Planted 140mph, all day long. But 650i.Bandit, capable of doing over 80 mph, before the red line...in 2nd. gear, what a JOY. All about the Acceleration ,heard the 750 turbo, was the first production bike any size, to do the Standing quarter mile 10 seconds, mine did 161 mph. Much rather have a fuel inj. Bandit. Now a semi retired Banditateer, FEKKIN Banditaholic, ruined for any other bike, just have to feel Blessed, to have a PhD Masters Degree in Bandit Torque Enjoyment only, nothing technical, Professor Bandit 650i.B.T.E. out.

Trying to figure out which bike to get. I like the idea of the 09, because I’d have more power to grow into.
But people say the 07 is quite a bit more nimble feeling, which would be fun.

i can totally see the litre bike being easier to ride.....dont have to keep revs up so high while cruising, weight and inertia help in wind.....but true where you live its wide friggen open, most places are much tighter with stoplights every 1/4 mile, tons more traffic........i am amazed how stable superbikes are at speed, 100mph and bike is rock steady, no twitchyness whatsoever......
when i raced mx 250fs were same, had to wring the piss out of it constantly where 450 was more comfy

Litre bikes are great on the street, because you can go relatively faster than all cars without even trying and staying low in the torque rpm range. Litre bikes just embarrass pretty much anything on the road. The problem is you need to have your wits about you, if your off your game and decide to push it, I have seen in the news many riders biting the dust. Be careful out there, although the risk is almost just as great on a 600cc, so not too much difference.

I guess on the wide open roads you have, maybe your idea makes sense but where I live in WV, all that power of an R1 would be wasted. Supermoto is my bike of choice and I can't be convinced to be on anything else around here. That said, do you still have the CRF?

  • @californiapoontappa

Everything you discribed about why you like the litre bike is the exact reason why Iike hyper nakeds. You get comfortable riding position but you can definitely get in there and attack. You got plenty of torques only thing was I had to add a little screen just cuz the wind was brutal over 120 mph. But you are also right my r6 would keep right up with the litre bikes the only difference was on hwy the litre bike pulls faster and has like you said only 20 mph more. My 600 would do 160 and a litre bike 180 so not much of a difference there

I still haven’t taken the MSF course but plan to this summer.
