👉The Hu: The band was founded in 2016. The syllable Hu in the band name is the Mongolian root for the word human. The band name roughly translates as 'the people'. The band's logo shows a snow leopard. The band chose this animal because of its mythical significance. Among other things, it is said to be a symbolic animal for ancient Mongolian tribes. The four members of the band, Gala (Singer), Jaya (Singer), Enkush (Mongolian horse head violin, Undertone singing) and Temka (Mongolian Gitarre), all have degrees in music from the Mongolian State Conservatory. Jaya teaches there under his real name G. Nyamjantsan.
The Hu call their style of music Hunnu Rock. They use traditional Mongolian musical instruments such as the horse head violin, the Mongolian guitar and also employ traditional Mongolian undertone singing. From the field of heavy metal they mainly borrow the hammering basses for their music. (www) 🌼🇩🇪

You did miss a historical context. The early foundation of Chi'na. The Hunan dynasty. There is a reason why this connects to all of humanity... Listen to Native American music... Listen to aboriginal music... It's very much similar for a reason.

In huge numbers, most arrivals occurred about 20,000 years ago.
This robust activity resulted in the "native" First Peoples of North, South, and Central America. Thus, Aztecs and Apaches, Mayans and Mohawks, Incas and Sioux and so on are blood-related. The similarities in physical features are readily notable, as is the beautiful blue "Mongolian" spot, generally appearing at the base of the spine in many of today's newborns of this ancestry.
Cultural similarities --- from shamanism and totems to teepees and shamanic drum construction --- are obvious. One of the more unique cultural features from this legacy is that, to this day, Mongols, including The HU, and the American Inuit still throat sing!

I need to take a minute to thank you for these analysis videos. As a 55 year old woman with autism I am discovering a whole new experience of music. I'm sure you've heard the phrase "can't see the forest for the trees". I experience music as a single homogeneous thing. I only see the forest. But as I watch your videos and you stop and explain what you are hearing, specifically and replay that.... Bam, there it is, like magic I hear it. And once I hear it I can recognize it in other songs. As you point out the specific "tree" it separates from the surrounding "forest" and suddenly the flat green smudge of forest is SO MUCH MORE! I can't thank you enough, please keep doing what you are doing!

I’m still levitating." - Lzzy. That could be felt, two of my favourites together, considering those who will get their deserved flowers on womens day.
This song had me in tears. The song reminds me of my Mum and my Sister. My Mum raised me and my Sis as a single parent. She was/is ill, I was 7 and my Sis was 5, we were poor, etc. But that didn't stop my Mum from proving how strong women are, regardless of her situation. My Sister took all those lessons and ran with it, and became one of the strongest and most brilliant women I've even had the pleasure of knowing. Society (in general) forgets how much Women have contributed towards the very society we live in. We don't have a Yang without a Yin.
In 2019, My love and I went to see the HU here in Nashville. Were were blessed and got to see Lzzy sing this song with them Live. To this day I still get chills when I hear this song. I was blown away of the shear POWER of her voice with them. It was OMG wonderful to hear this in person. If you get the opportunity, for god sake do it.
I got to see the HU live in D.C. at a small venue, couple hundred at most right before the pandemic hit, was worth it OMG they are amazing live. Have seen Lzzy live and can only imagine with her voice how powerful this was live, congrats!!

If you watch closely, there were actually three band members doing the "whistle tone" throat singing and they were even creating harmonies and different notes with it at the very end that was so intensely awesome!! I also love the multilayering of different parts to create the epic expansion of sound that thrums through your very core... This song is so beautiful that it brings tears to my eyes and a lump in my throat...

If memory serves the pictures in the background are the mothers and grandmothers of the band members, the whole song, even without Lizzy is a tribute to the power and strength of the women who held families and societies together for centuries.

I just love how all the guys are wearing black, while Lzzy is wearing a bright red, really drawing focus to a woman's power, and bringing her to the front visually, even while she's moving around.
That was actually visually jarring to me and I didn't warm up to this one until I heard it without the video.
These guys are friggin amazing. Funny story. I'm in a small town in Arkansas. Just a few days ago I was walking through a large parking lot to a store. And I heard the Hu wolf totem blasting from a car.

The whistle/ birdsong is throat singing. It's subtly through a lot of the song. I had the privilege of being serenaded by one of the finest throat singers in Mongolia while he and I were dancing at one point. It's amazing the number of sounds someone truly skilled in it can make at once. It's like birds singing all around you while the droning just goes through you at close range.

I knew I'd love watching your face as Lzzy and the boys harmonized. This music video was dropped just in time for Mother's Day that year, and it hit all the feels that it was supposed to. I want to play it for my daughters when they're old enough to appreciate the gravity of it all.

I can do throat singing.
The Hu and Heilung are on my playlist. I listened daily and sang along. Tried to emulate the sounds. Just monkeying around trying to figure it out.
One day it happened. I can't tell you how exactly. Relax your throat is the best advice I can give. Try until you can.
That day and the next I throat sang everything. I narrated my day. "I am going to wash the crap off these dope dishes and my stupid saute pan. I am going to wash these utensils too."
It's fun because you can feel the vibration viscerally. It's pretty cool. It's fun to play with long vowels. ahh and eee.
Now it's second nature. I love playing with it and make interesting noises.
YMMV, but I connect more towards Heilung than The Hu. Heilung is more my vibe. In Maidjen or Norupa or Kriegsgaldr hit a sweet spot in me.

My son and I owe this song for putting the idea in our heads that your mother's heartbeat was the first lullaby that any of us ever heard, and that this is something every person on the planet has in common. Sappy, I know, but I am unapologetic. Hearing this song will often prompt him to listen to my heartbeat for a few seconds and smile. So this has become one of my favorite songs.

The overtones are the best part
The sygyt section is absolutely beautiful, it's imitating the sounds of water or wind, if the soul has a sound you've just heard it. Hardest thing I've learned to do vocally, but they've done this since childhood and it shows.
I learn Sygyt style singing for world history, it turns out it was a nearly identical to a sound that I used to make all the time as a kid. It’s such a beautiful resonance.
Wow!! I had heard that sound before, but didn't know what it was called........It's honestly one of the most beautiful and haunting sounds I have ever heard.
I've always thought it kind of sounded like a built-in didgeridoo which I love because they can be so expressive for such a simple instrument; the instrument is simple, learning and mastery are exceedingly difficult. Just had to throw that in so I didn't get shredded by the peanut gallery for calling it a simple instrument lol.

Every time I see Halestorm in concert I'm blown away by how incredible of a singer that Lzzy is. She's amazing on albums and everything, but she is just so so incredible in person live.

I love Lzzy in Halestorm, but one of my favorite things about her is that she will lend her vocals to just about anyone that asks. The sub harmonic voice reminds me of a digeridoo. Never heard this song before now. I love it. Don't understand their language but the emotion shines through. Music is the universal language.
Gala, the primary singer from the HU who plays the instrument, I apologize I do not remember the name of that instrument, provides most of the supportive subharmonic vocals. I absolutely love his voice. I also think he sang the super high "whistle" and played the musical notes at the end.
The instrument is Morin Khuur. Enkush ( in red) usually does whistling. Sygyt.

I love this song and absolutely LOVE your analysis. I can appreciate it so much more now, thanks to you! The whistling at the end is indeed throat singing. I would encourage you to learn more about throat singing and I think you would really enjoy a documentary that turned me on to it many years ago: “Ghengis Blues” is a story of a blind blues singer (Paul Peña) from California that travels to Tuva and enters a national throat singing competition. I believe the throat singing/whistle here is called “Khoomei”.

This is an amazing song. I feel like I'd seen it come up on my feed, but I hadn't listened to it yet. The awesome thing is that I've made what I've titled a "confidence mix" for my newly teenage daughter, and this is one that I'm going to have to run by her to see if she'd like to add it to that.

Hello Elizabeth! You should listen to Lzzy Hale's song "Break In" featuring Amy Lee! They sang the song together live during their first common tour. I think a lyric breakdown of Metal songs important also because the meanings of Metal songs really can tell you the harsh reallity of life, or such deepness in the story telling. Maybe something for you to consider Elizabeth.

I think the song I want to see you react to the most is Rainbow's "Rainbow Eyes". We all love how powerful Ronnie's voice was, but him singing so soft and tender, almost fragile is something that has been seared into my soul. I think it might really be the most touching song I've ever heard.

One thing I noticed about this song just now, despite having known about it for a while, is that the front third or so of the song follows the "lub dub" beat of a heart, making the line about every heart that beats singing a woman's song that much more impactful.

I dont know if anyone else has answered on this here or in the original chat - The Hu's lyrics are from the original, and I believe they are sung in Mongolian. Lzzy's lyrics are her own, not a translation.

The Hu have other songs you haven't touched upon yet. Some of the most popular ones covered by other TH-cam reactors--"Yuve Yuve Yu" and "Shoog Shoog"--are definitely worthy of your analysis. However, I think many of your subscribers (myself included) would just plotz to see you analyze The Hu's cover (in their native language) of Metallica's "Sad But True." Not only is their rendition a teeth-gnashing, headbanging powerhouse, the video production has superlative fantasy elements and visual effects you'd really dig. Forgive my vernacular, but it's definitely one of most badass videos out there; I kinda like this version of the song even better than the original!

Every damn time I listen to this song it punches me right in the feels… Thought it might be different since this would be broken up by commentary. Turns out? Not so much. I’m at work hiding in the bathroom trying to stop crying now.
The Primal rooted part you are hearing is the drums. They are playing a heart beat. As for the colab. They have released a bunch of songs with an English singing artists. For all of them they didn't want the artist they are working with to sing The Hu's song and just do a translation. They gave them story behind the song and allowed the artist to write their own part. They all turned out amazing. That whistle is 100% them singing it. In Mongolian throat singing there are 7 "voices". That whistle voice is one of them.
How this one has gone past me? Excellent choice and it gave me another great musical piece :)
The layering of this song is actually insane. There's so much packed in each small section that you can just keep finding more and more little things each time you re-listen to this song.
