This is so perfect. Grew up listening to blues but it wasn't till after my dad passed and I got older that I could honestly appreciate the genre. I've heard the Portishead OG for years now, which I liked but it never sparked anything, until I heard this version at Old Navy of all places.
I heard this shit at Old Navy earlier today, of all places. Haven’t heard it before but Shazamed it the second it started, as I LOVE Portishead. Haven’t stopped listening since. Goosebumps. Thank god for old navy’s playlist I guess 🤷🏼♀️
You guys are all Looney! a true love of deeply felt music brought each and everyone of us to this spot. if you didn't appreciate music that can break your heart, you wouldn't be listening to Glory Box - regardless of who's version it is or who told you about it.
Finally, a cover that adds something to the original, and in an entirely new vibe: Devine Jazz... Portishead's "Glorybox" is probs one of my Top 3 all-time favourites *ever!* The very first time I heard it I was in a club, shortly after I took Ecstasy for my very 1st time; I remember when 'it' hit me, it was at the same time the refrain started and Beth was crying out the longing to _"give [her] a reason.."_ *whoa, sweet mother of pearl!* I don't do E anymore (mostly bc there haven't been true quality scores on 'the market' for aeons, that are uncut, 100% pure, *which is criminal* imo), it was *the best* ride when listening to Grade-A music! However, Glorybox remains to be a summum of awesomeness... PS: I called it "Jazz" but it's likely (to some) a Jazz/Blues crossover of some sorts? But it shouldn't really matter if it's correct or what the true 'orthodox' description of the style is: I think we can all agree it's "Devine" in and on itself...
I am so glad I found this just now, while bein high as a kite. God is great, thanks for this gem of a piece of music.
Ooo wee that’s almost better than the original. 💜

Esta versión es la mejor, la he buscado por años desde que la escuché en Radioactivo 98.5 FM hace como 21 años
This is the version recorded for Morning Becomes Eclectic at KCRW in about 1999.
Certainly not the album version. (Church with one bell)
Amazing.
"Oh my God, you know John Martyn, like no one knows John Martyn.." Elaine Denham
Whole 'nother level of Glory Box interpretation. He gets it!
This is too good for words. (especially the lyrics shown)
