Installing Sportster Risers and Speedo Relocation

  • Installing my refurbished risers and speedo relocation on my Harley Sportster. This took longer than I anticipated but totally worth it. I thought I’d get away with adding 4” pullback risers without an issue but you’ll see why 6”+ pullbacks are commonplace. I’m no skilled tech, just an average guy taking his time, tinkering away on the bike, thanks for watching.

    Looks clean, I also installed the bung king highway/crash bar along with the shock crash pegs. I do feel the crash bar feels a big heavy and hard to steer, but definitely makes it safe just in case it drops.

      Thank G! Agreed, I’ve been thinking of ditching it now that I’ve been riding more, but know it’s worth the safety!

    Really cool looking! Does it stay on place during riding and all those Harley shake? As it is secured with 1 bolt only.

    What size bit is the back of the speedometer housing?

    Curious, im 5’9” and stock just doesnt do it for me, Was the 4” enough? I wanted 6” or 8” but I 1000% am only capable of replacing the front brake line and nothing else, from your previous comment saying you flipped up the 4in for clearance, in your opinion if I did 6” or 8” would that fit without new cables?? Thanks for your time, nice vid

    • @nooowayyjose
      @nooowayyjose  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the 4” risers are enough but feel like I could get away with 6” and that goes for the cables too, only exception would be if you also change the length of the fork tubes. With the lengthened forks, you’d definitely need to replace the brake line and also get a extended kickstand. If you do not extend the fork tubes and only extend the risers, you should be good up to 6”, not sure what it would be like beyond that, might be cutting it close. Hope that helps and thanks for watching.

      I got the risers used from a guy on Instagram, best I can tell they are OEM Harley 4” pullbacks. The highway pegs are a BungKing crash bar which I purchased off SpeedKings Cycles website. Thanks for watching!

    I'm looking to get the drag specialties 5.5" pull back risers. Do you think I could put those on my 2017 Iron 883 without replacing or extending any cables? Everything else is stock Thanks!

      @nooowayyjose  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A little hard to say, I cant say for certain but from my gut I think you would be fine. The only thing that might be an issue would be your brake line. If you have a string that you can route from one end to the other and mark it you should be able to lay it out and measure it with a measuring tape and check how much slack you might have at full lock either way and see if 5.5” will be an issue. Hope that helps and good luck!

    I see you have lifted the tank, I don’t have that on my bike and would like to buy 4 inch pull back raisers. Will it touch my fuel tank?

    • @nooowayyjose
      @nooowayyjose  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a ~2” lift and i was having a bit of clearance issues, in my opinion it was too close for comfort. That’s why I flipped the risers up instead of back. I dont know what it would be like without the tank lift, I think you might be okay, but might be really close. Honestly I think 6” pullbacks are the perfect size if you have this same style tank.

    Did you use the stock gas, clutch and brake cables?

    • @nooowayyjose
      @nooowayyjose  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! Depending on your fork length you might get away with using all stock cables and hoses. I have 4overs on the forks plus adding a few inches to the risers required getting an extended front brake line. The wiring for the speedo, lights, etc had plenty of length to add the risers and move some stuff around. Hope that helps, thanks for watching.

      @@nooowayyjose what was your method for extending the forks? Longer fork tubes? Extension caps?

    • @nooowayyjose
      @nooowayyjose  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alpal360 I installed the TrackerDie cartridge eliminator kit that include extended dampener rods. It gave me a 4 inch lift without having to change out the fork tubes. • @alpal360
      @alpal360 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nooowayyjose that’s a great way of doing it. I have a forty eight with the 49mm, mid-glide forks. I’m considering doing the cartridge eliminator then extended what I have, but am leaning towards doing a 39mm, narrow glide (iron 883/1200 front end) conversion and running the 19inch wheel instead of my standard 16in bobber wheel.
      What’s your take?
      4inch extension on my:
      49mm, mid-glide stance, bobber wheel?
      Or
      39mm, narrow-glide, 19-inch wheel?
      Also going to install 14in shocks in the rear

    • @nooowayyjose
      @nooowayyjose  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alpal360 sounds like a fun project! My vote would be to switch out the front, get a more skinny, extended front end look. Definitely more work but generally I think that always looks better. Good luck!
