centurion armor seems a bit to low to be a good shield like that AC10 and LRM10 pack a punch but i always downgrade one or the other to afford some armor because it's almost a glass cannon in it's default loadout
In campaigns I'll usually swap 1 heatsink for more ammo on this. Or if there is any way to beg, borrow, or steal an LB-10X (re-introduced 3035) that's 1 ton lighter and can be used for ammo.
Nah. Hansen and Melissa not putting Katherine in her place and keeping her there was the problem. Of course after having a love child with Omi Kurita, Victor went on to marry a Marik. Dude is a walking succession crisis.
The 3050 upgrade of the Enforcer highlights one of the most baffling decisions in the redesign of existing mechs: a predominate lack of double heat sinks. The if the upgrade package (which included an XL engine) included double heat sinks, it could afford to fire the ER large laser, the LBX-10 AC and jump its full distance without gaining heat. It could also remove 2 heat sinks (bringing it down to 10 double heat sinks), and use the extra tonnage on armor or more AC ammo. It could even include a medium pulse laser to help overcome opponent that close to short range. Many of the upgrade packages introduce new weapons but don't include double heat sinks. Double heat sinks take a lot of critical slots, and some redesigns can't afford to use them due to space considerations. For any mech that has 20 or less normal heat sinks, ripping out the extra heat sinks and turning the engine's 10 into double is a no-brainer upgrade. The break even point between single and double heat sinks as far as critical space is concerned is 37. If the total heat dissipation is 36 or less you take less weight, and less crit slots switching to inner sphere double heat sinks. At 38 heat dissipation, it takes more crit slots using IS double heat sinks than normal heat sinks.
The whole point of many 3050 variants is that they were just starting to learn how to incorporate these newly rediscovered technologies into their designs, and that there was a lot of New Toy Syndrome going around on top of production only spinning up slowly. No DHS and hot-running new energy weapons is one of the mistakes almost everyone made. Ask Kurita about their Panther with SHS and an ER PPC. 🤣
And the key thing regarding the double heat sinks and the new age Enforcer was that it upgraded the engine to the 250 class. At that point, all the base heatsinks are integrated INSIDE the engine with no critical space.
The Enforcer is that type of mech that is not the best, but also not the worst. it is ok, and as long as the person in it is competent and have a good battlefield awareness being able to see where it will be put to use the best it will preform well.

In the HBS Battletech, I was looking at this to provide low weight lances with heavy firepower (without having to rely on the go-to Centurion; try something new, eh? haha). Also wanted to say I'm loving these videos. I hope you do one on the Marshal someday. A lot of people criticize mechs for not being optimized for large scale mech conflicts, forgetting that mechs are supposed to be expensive and rare, meaning that mechs built to be generalists are very lore appropriate. One of my favorites. My ideal medium lance has two of these as its core, a Shadowhawk calling targets, and a Vindicator keeping enemies off the Enforcer's backs.
As a medium mech, this and the Lynx are my go-to mechs. I love that they have not one, but TWO long(ish) range weapons instead of just one. I look at it, like a lighter, jump capable warhammer....doing only 2 points less damage, but running cool enough to send that gunfire every turn. For a campaign, I can see the ammo being a problem (no ammo problems with the Lynx)...but i rarely do campaigns: tabletop and Megamek are where I use Enforcers.
The Enforcer is one of those "good enough" medium mechs. A genuine middle of the road. Probably why it stood out to me as a first pick in the old Fasa box edition.
I mostly play mercenaries, but I tend to pick mostly Davion mechs. Davion actually fields mechs that are very powerful for their C-Bill cost. They aren't always the very most bang for the buck, but they're usually close.
The 3025 version is a very good all-round package, it's not super-mobile, but the jump jets help to offset that issue, it can take a beating and carries some useful firepower. On the downside it has to mind faster mechs and those with LRM's or PPC's. Against Clans it's going to suffer because its armament falls in their ER M Laser range, which means that a lot of Clan mechs usually have more firepower in backup weapons than the baseline Enforcer. The 3050 version makes the big critical mistake of fancy weapon upgrades and heat be damned, making all the improvements a moot point since the mech now has to fight with one arm tied behind its back. The Enforcer III is mostly an exercise in trying as many variants of the cannon+energy weapon combo as possible. Overall the Enforcer is not a "mech killer" like the Marauder or Mad Cat. It's a team mech, that can hold the line if needed and depends on other mechs for things like support, mobility and firepower. It's a decent medium replacement for a heavy mech. To me the main appeal are the jump jets which allows it to move over difficult terrain and can keep going forward when even 5/8 mediums get bogged down. The good armour and firepower allow it to go front and center into a fight and it can back off when needed. In games with larger, heavier mechs it's a good wingman that can move into the flank and rear once an enemy mech is locked into combat and can finish off damaged mechs.
If I don't know where I'm going or what I'll be fighting or for how long, I'm just going to take an Enforcer. It's good, not great, at everything. It's basically the mayo of medium line 'Mechs- it's good with everything.
One of my favorites in HBS Battletech and in MW5,I almost always strip the JJs and max the armor. A skilled AI pilot in the cockpit can make surprisingly effective use of the AC/10 and LLas.
Enforcer is one of the few mechs of which i liked it´s earliest art works. The mech itself, not so much, i prefer my mediums a tad faster. But it makes for an excellent Trooper mech, rugged and reliable, flexible enough, and in most configurations jump capable.
I think as far as "trooper" mechs go, the Enforcer is overshadowed by the Centurion. Rather than go with a spread of weapons across all range brackets, the Enforcer is strictly a mid-range brawler. It can use the jump jets to good use, but if an enemy gets too close it runs the risk of getting behind and getting a hit in on the weak back armor. The limited ammunition for the main gun means the pilot has to be more conservative with the rate of fire, lest the bins run dry in the middle of combat. I do like the Enforcer. It's solid and affordable (being comparable in C-bill cost to the Centurion), but it has some flaws that can be exploited if the pilot gets careless.
I've been tinkering with my own version in MWO. It keeps the ac10 but mounts twin lite ppcs in the other arm, a pair of er medium Las in the side torso and a lite 200 engine. It's shaping up to be a nice 400 to 500 yard machine with steady dmg output.
I like these more than the Centurion. The AC10/LL combo is pretty nice, and the ability to manage arc facings using JJs lets it benefit from front-loading its armor.
Works well for succession wars due to the sudden drop in use of assaults and, to a lesser extent, heavies. Especially since most of the conflict was blitz style battles. Meaning, you want all your armor in front so you can break through their lines without getting turned into red goop.
My merc forces had two Enforcers when running in 3025 tech; one with no design changes, but the other swapped the AC 10 for a 20…lost the large laser and gave it 2 tons of ammo, another ton of armor, mostly to fix the back, and another medium laser. I used it only in cities or at least dense cover. Nothing like having an AC20 jump in behind you!
A couple things to note about the Enforcer. There are certainly unusual variants such as the 4P variant which mounts an AC 20. The mech also inspired several other designs, such as the Watchman, Sentry and Enforcer III to name a few.
The Enforcer is one of those mechs (the Centurion is another) that can be upgraded so easily it's not even funny. For a relatively cheap and easy upgrade, you only need two things: Ferro-Fibrous armor, and an LB10-X autocannon. The LB gives you one free ton to add some cluster ammo, and the FF frees up enough weight to add CASE. XLs are a waste of materiel when it comes to troopers like the ENF and CN9. If you want to spend a bit more, get the double heatsinks, but they're not strictly necessary.
I think this was one of the first minis I bought. pretty solid model that ya can glue the arms back together no problem, unlike my Puma that is now going to be terrain before I put it back together
I've come to appreciate the Enforcer not because it's a Davion design or that it's a dependable workhorse of a mech it was one of the first mechs I used when I was getting back into the TT game it helped me get "back in the saddle" as it were it's been my go to mech ever since
the enforcer has become a workhorse medium for my mw5 gameplay. i sometimes stip the jumpjets for more armor, but thats usually if the ai is piloting it. a ppc and lb10x with the small laser stripped for a small boost in ammo, and its a solid guard for a friend in a heavy or assault
A good medium mech, and a good companion to other stand-off mid-range mediums, like the Centurion. Although the rear ST is criminally under armored (3 points!), which gives me a lot of anxiety. A single medium laser will open it up to crits and a potential ammo explosion. I would feel safer if it had 5 points in the rear torso sections, to soak a medium laser hit. The low ammo also means you can’t just indiscriminately blast away with it as soon as you get into range, like you can with a Cent. Because you can’t afford to waste shots. So there’s this tension between keeping to medium range, to avoid letting enemies get shots at your rear, but also being unable to afford wasted shots, from the range modifiers. It makes it harder to play than a Centurion, but similar in capability I think.
Its kinda funny, i see why the centurion is better now, my first campaign run with HBS battletech, i hated the centurion and loved the enforcer cause it was able to get more energy weapons on it and id just take off the jump jets. I dont really use it anymore vs just going with the centurion/shadowhawk/vindicator/blackjack till i get a heavy/assault, but i do have an appreciation for this mech
The enforcer reminds me of a type of mounted infantry man. It’s heavy hitting and mobile but it’s limited to a short engagement to buy time for the regular infantry to arrive. Not cavalry. Mounted infantry. Cavalry comes in to sweep at infantry. Dragoons ride into the path of enemy forces and set up to fight in a short, high intensity fight to halt the advance and buy time for infantry to arrive. In many ways the enforcer is the perfect mercenary mech or even starter mech because of its simple and direct purpose. The enforcer isn’t meant to be thrown into a line like an infantryman nor is it meant to sweep at the rear like cavalry. The enforcer is the brute that picks where he’s gonna make a stand, sets himself within a dense arena that funnels troops into the kill box and he lights them up. (Best used in enfiladed positions, cities, dense forests and tight canyons that force single file lines.). In short if you are a mercenary, militiaman, or a dragoon this is your medium mech.
Considering Taurian mercenary outfit I'm designing, as I'm fairly new to the setting just over the last 2 years, fights davion's a lot this should be a mech I'll keep in my stable.
I see Enforcer as equivalent to Vindicator, Panther, Wolverine WVR-6M, and Griffin GRF-1S. Powerful medium 'Mech with emphasis on firepower and quantity over quality (Thunderbolt is the quality). Considering the primary enemies are Panther and Vindicator, Enforcer is a decent asset.
Video idea here... what about making a video going over the differences between Battletech and Mechwarrior. while at surface level they seem the same, there is a lot of interesting nuances that distinguish the two. For example lance composition and battle tactics can be quite different.
It's likely to be something I cover once I think the channel can work with a bit of different content. Just wait until we get past the initial weapon systems and Battlemechs, and I'll be covering a lot of stuff.
Thinking about it now it almost like a diet Victor wich I don't say as insult it very good mech I love both those mech hell I own five of the urban lance box sets. On top of that I painted four in my homebrew unit.
Here's a thought: instead of the 250XL engine, upgrade the 200 to a 250 standard instead. Although the 250 standard engine is 4 tons heavier than the 200 standard, if you use endo-steel structure that saves 2.5 tons, and then strip out 2 heat sinks but replace them remainder with _double efficiency_ sinks, then you've solved your engine vulnerability problem _and_ your heat problem at the same time.
In mech warriors mercenaries this is my go too much for lance makeup in mediums usually a catapult and centurion in the mix to round out the firepower and to have a big enough Frontline to handle big mechs if needed
Another great video man. So, I meant to ask on the last one but I was too psyched about a Hunchie a video and forgot. How do you record MW5:Mercs? Most of the time when I record it on OBS it comes out mega-choppy and will have graphic freezes for several seconds. Like 1 frame every ten seconds. I have no problems with any other games.
I love using my My table top Enforcer. It carries 2 large (1 in each arm), 19 heat sinks and an extra ton of armour mostly added to the rear (+5 rear CT, +4 rear LT/RT, +1 on each arm) this solves the rear armour problem and it requires no ammo😁
The enforcer, was interestingly enough the first mech the AFFS landed on New Avalon during the closing stages Of operation Pendragon (the military operation to retake the lost Federated Suns territory form the Combine), where the Enforcer found that the fight for the planet was already dying down as local Federated Sun resistance group's had been fighting the DCMS since the planets fall. This enforcer will later stand beside Hanse Davion's BattleMaster Dana (which was taken back by the Federation Sun during a raid on luthen also side a number of Important DCMS mechs in storage.) in the war memorial for the Combine Federated war.
The IS ER large laser is just a waste. Way too much heat and the same damage as a normal large laser. For the 5D I’d keep all the other improvement’s, but revert to a standard large laser. As a Davion player, it’s a mech I’ve grown to love.
The Enforcer I enjoy enough its not really flashy as far as mechs, best use is urban warfare, but outside of that it does just fine. It really shines with some of the variants, if you had to use this mech, you could do a lot worse. Just keep at range and fire and maneuver, ideally use those jump jets to get a good angle on your target.
Personally, I'm of the opinion that putting a rottery AC5 in with 2 tons of ammo is the better option. Combined that with a heavy hitting PPC and some "knuckle dusters", you'll have an alright mech with some volume of fire capability.
While the Centurion is the shield of House Davion, the Enforcer is definitely the sword.

Didn’t know anything about this Mech before this video. Very cool.
I sometimes equippe it with LBX and call it "DoomGuy"
The only thing they fear, is you.
Way back when I first started table top , my random generated starting mech was a enforcer. I still get excited when in early game I get one.
I love this family of Mechs. The Watchman is my all time favorite
I think this mech was the third I managed to salvage in the Battletech (2018) videogame.
If I don't know where I'm going or what I'll be fighting or for how long, I'm just going to take an Enforcer. It's good, not great, at everything. It's basically the mayo of medium line 'Mechs- it's good with everything.
Good evolution of the hammerhands type mechs. Just solid.
One of my favorites in HBS Battletech and in MW5,I almost always strip the JJs and max the armor. A skilled AI pilot in the cockpit can make surprisingly effective use of the AC/10 and LLas.
I ran into these things all the time playing the 4th succession war as the Capellans vs my friend.
Enforcer is one of the few mechs of which i liked it´s earliest art works. The mech itself, not so much, i prefer my mediums a tad faster.
But it makes for an excellent Trooper mech, rugged and reliable, flexible enough, and in most configurations jump capable.
Got 2 ENF-4R's and I have to say Davion hit it outta the park with this one So fun to pilot especially when upgraded with double heat sinks.
Versatility incarnate, especially if you can get the version with the LX10-X. Possibly the best fire support unit in its tonnage.
Well, there are 2 versions with the LBX. One which is good... one which is... uhhh....
I've been tinkering with my own version in MWO. It keeps the ac10 but mounts twin lite ppcs in the other arm, a pair of er medium Las in the side torso and a lite 200 engine. It's shaping up to be a nice 400 to 500 yard machine with steady dmg output.
Dual UAC/5 Enforcer gives me terminal giggles in mech 5. DAKKA squared.
I always make sure it's paintjob is green.
Great vid!! Many thanks.......
A couple things to note about the Enforcer. There are certainly unusual variants such as the 4P variant which mounts an AC 20. The mech also inspired several other designs, such as the Watchman, Sentry and Enforcer III to name a few.
Even if it is a dirty Davion mech, I've always liked the Enforcer. It's a fairly balanced mech, especially in 3025 play. Great video as always, Red.
It's the ultimate pirate mech, for the ultimate pirate faction.
I used the enforce in the success wars. Found it useful with a fire Lance. Just need to make sure you protect your ammo dump.
Great mech. Love to pair an Enforcer with a Centurion or two when running a Fed Suns force list.
They run well together.
@@BigRed40TECH throw in a Dervish and a Marauder you have a solid Davion list
@@rmcdudmk212 Throw those in and you have the fall of Sian. lol
@@BigRed40TECH that's not a bad thing 😉
Same
I think this was one of the first minis I bought. pretty solid model that ya can glue the arms back together no problem, unlike my Puma that is now going to be terrain before I put it back together
Enforcers have notoriously weak back armor. I see an Enforcer, I shoot it in the back, it dies. It's lack of hands and limited ammo is also a problem.
Same with the Hunchback, but both have their roles.
I've actually been able to put a light ppc, and also a light Goss rifle on a version that I created. Oh, also an ER large laser.
I've come to appreciate the Enforcer not because it's a Davion design or that it's a dependable workhorse of a mech it was one of the first mechs I used when I was getting back into the TT game it helped me get "back in the saddle" as it were it's been my go to mech ever since
Let's goooo!!!
Great Trooper 'Mech, my only complaint is the limited ammo.
When I need to close my eyes and go to my happy place. I always seem to be in a Enforcer. I guess I'm just meant to drive the Buick of battlemechs.
Well... you know what I was going to say about this mech anyway. I'm pretty biased.
The Best Mech ever? :P
You would be correct
"I wanna be called Spaghetti"
"Alright, ehh, Spaghetti."
love the Enforcer
I have this on MWO i like the one with missiles AND beams.
This was a good hit and run, fade tactics Mech. Hit at range, fade away, show up on the other side hitting you there.
the enforcer has become a workhorse medium for my mw5 gameplay. i sometimes stip the jumpjets for more armor, but thats usually if the ai is piloting it. a ppc and lb10x with the small laser stripped for a small boost in ammo, and its a solid guard for a friend in a heavy or assault
The best mech in the original 3025 box-set.
If not the best it's top 5 for sure.
Nice video.
Thanks!
Not a mech I've used. Nothing wrong with it, just kinda forgot about it.
And I am a Suns fan. Just slipped my mind.
It's a great line medium. Just not exciting. lol
Old video I know, but I like to drop the LL and give it 4 ML and a extra ton of ammo
I can't wait to redo these in 2025 :)
Kinda always over looked this Mech. Might have to give it a shot now.
Considering Taurian mercenary outfit I'm designing, as I'm fairly new to the setting just over the last 2 years, fights davion's a lot this should be a mech I'll keep in my stable.
Good mech when you have not to care about repairs (MWO) but bad when you have to rebuy heavy weapons every time you loose an arm (MW5)
Enforcer 2. Redesigned for more enforcement.
Drop your weapon, you have 20 seconds to comply.
Handbanana... I want you to meet, the Enforcer.
Never used one myself, but I think I'd rather take a Centurion or Phenonix Hawk; too many arm based systems makes me nervous.
It's genuinely a solid mech.
@@BigRed40TECH I'm sure.
Point stands.
I wish you would do the one on the Havoc And the Gambit
I like running it as a skirmisher. Keep to L Laser range and use the AC as a finisher
This one is fun in MWO, it can fit 2 large lasers with the AC 10
At least in MWO i find myself going with a large pulse and LBX10. Laser melts the armor, shotgun plays with the squishy bits :)
Instead they chose to larp as Kuritans.
Just using OBS screen capture. :)
The enforcer replaced the Uzeal has my favorite medium mech
The IS ER large laser is just a waste. Way too much heat and the same damage as a normal large laser. For the 5D I’d keep all the other improvement’s, but revert to a standard large laser. As a Davion player, it’s a mech I’ve grown to love.
My experience tends to confirm the ER large is more a burden than anything else. I'd go for the swap you suggest.
This is my kind of machine, the cheap, mobile gun turret
I really wish there was a variant that swapped the guns around to an AC5 and PPC
I named my Enforcer "Dirty Ezio"
only had one of these and it was cursed to being terrible
The Enforcer I enjoy enough its not really flashy as far as mechs, best use is urban warfare, but outside of that it does just fine. It really shines with some of the variants, if you had to use this mech, you could do a lot worse. Just keep at range and fire and maneuver, ideally use those jump jets to get a good angle on your target.
Personally, I'm of the opinion that putting a rottery AC5 in with 2 tons of ammo is the better option. Combined that with a heavy hitting PPC and some "knuckle dusters", you'll have an alright mech with some volume of fire capability.
Personally I think it'd be good Sniper, with a UAC/5 and an ER Large Laser, of course with double heatsinks, extra armor, and even an engine upgrade
