- In this video I will be covering the assemblies of my builds of the stock 6L80-6L90 transmissions. I will not be covering clutch clearance checking and modifications along with endplay measurements and adjustments, nor vacuum testing. I will post all of that information in another video.
This video is dedicated to Jeremy Sanner, recently diagnosed with terminal cancer and is a fellow mechanic. Here is a link to his video: www.tiktok.com...

Your videos are clear & precise. Thanks for calling the rubber seals what they really are. an o-ring is not a lip seal or a d-ring like I’ve heard some other builders say big difference. Thanks for making it clear.
“Good content “
Fan-friggin-tastic video. You are truly an awesome guy for doing this!
This is outstanding, I hope this video gets millions of views! Happy Holidays sir! Thank you for this one for sure 👍🏻
Happy holidays!
Fantastic video. Well done sir
Good stuff! Im diving into my first 6l80 this week for my personal truck. Been through plenty 4l60 variations, 4l80s, th400s, and power glides so I have some confidence but this is like taking an open book test having a video this detailed. Thanks.
Good luck!
Amazing video thank you for making it. Truly an art.
Glad you put this video out! Super helpful!
It's been a long time coming. Without the new Rayban Meta glasses it would not have been easy to film.
excellent video why many mechanics need to press the stator on your video just drop like butter
Love your videos here & across social media, merry christmas brother & happy new years. :)
Happy holidays!
Can you give a description of all the parts you used in the rebuild it would be super useful to go along with the video man! Good work though!
All of the parts and part numbers are in the description.
Thanks, Great video, I am dealing with 6L90 and It does not go forward and no reverse, we open it up and 456 clutch are toasted , I have 2 question , do we need to replace new torque convertor, also why there is no movement situation on this type of transmissions? , I could not find any video on youtube regarding to test torque convertor when it is not installed on the car.
Wish you had one of these vids for a 6r80
Holy crap, how big are those snap ring plyers 😅
Great video. My 6l80e just did something recently after being rebuilt. When it's in park I can hear noise and when it's in gear it goes away. Then when backing up it kind of goes clunk like it's popping out would you have any idea where I should start looking?
Have you ever seen a 2015 6L90 melt the rear center support piston and ooze melted plastic all over the rearclutcged and lock the trans up?
I'm rebuilding a 2012 suburban 6l80. When finished do I have to have a fast learn performed?
Not sure if you read the comments often I'm having a wierd issue with my 65rfe, I'm a technician myself, but know very little on automatic transmissions. If you read this and have spare time which i know is hard to come by I'd like to get your opinion on the issue I'm having cannot find anything online, have hours of research into it before I replace what seems to be a good transmission.
What platform does most of your content end up on? Would love to see more 6l90 stuff!
Why does the hole have to be THAT SMALL when drilling the relocation feed? 1/16 bit isnt much bigger than that bit and are easier to obtain.
A 1/32” bit is slightly smaller than Sonnax’s, if I recall correctly, but they can be found in some more readily available “precision bit” or “micro bit” sets. I actually just got one out of a little Dremel micro bit set, for opening up a hole in my separator plate, and then used the Dremel to also drill the zip kit pump hole, with their bit.
What method do you use to get the pump dowel out of the stator half? What source do you use for the round sanding block used on the pump halves?
Is there any way to contact you? I’m having an issue with a 6l80 2015 Silverado. Transmission slipped once pulling my boat up a hill, rpm’s hit limiter before it up shifted. Got it home fluid was black. Chances the filter was metal on the magnet. Shifting perfect now but dealer ship hooked up a scanner and said the torque converter was going out and said I should replace the entire transmission. My question is do you think I need a new transmission or could I get away with just torque converter?
Where did you get the press tool for pistons? We have a hydro press at kut shop. Its a pain to adjust for different housings
Tool number T-0158-SP. I got mine from another builder that had an extra one laying around but you can find them on EBay.
Which bushing kit do you prefer? Sonnax or durabond?
I did a very similar build to my 6l80 recently. Shifts good and fluid looks good. I have noticed that in 4th gear, the transmission will get hot.
I have manually shifted it into 4th, not towing just driving normal it slowly builds heat. The minute I allow it to shift 5th 6th temperature goes right back down to normal. Have you ran into this before?
Hello 👋🏽 @ performance transmissions. I have a question: I'd like to swap an engine from a 2001 Mustang V6 3.8L that has a 4-speed automatic transmission. And replace it for a 03-04 Cobra engine and pair it with a 5 speed automatic transmission. Is this modification possible?

What is the specs on that arbor press if you happen to know ?
Thanks for doing this for us. Was this just a normal rebuild?
Yes, this is just a normal rebuild. This recipe is used and every one of my stock units and tuning goes along with the vehicle.
Do you have a parts list and where is the best place to buy parts? Once again thanks for all you do for this platform.

Which brand drum do you prefer for the 1234 drum when replacing?
I use OEM only.
id rather let you rebuild mine even if i wanted to, your work is immaculate and ive finally had converter failure at 185k.......do i call you guys and get a price on a whole rebuild or??
Dud you end up rebuilding the whole thing? My converter failed at 160k
@@familyguy5081 yes,new converter, bell housing, new pump and stator, clutches, seals and tuned to to get away from the gm tune....thats what killed it.
2950$ w tune but if it isnt tuned youre gonna have it happen again..why i chose to rebuild mine.
Hello
I have a question 2014 6L90 transmission does good until it heats up then it doesn’t want to pull in reverse, I have it torn apart but I don’t see anything worn. Can I please get your opinion?
Thanks
Herman
You need a quiet place away from that orangutan changing tires!
Are you R&R and builder or do you have R&R guys?
57:57 👍
Can I bring my truck to you I think it need oil pump on transmission I haven’t found anyone who can find the problem
what driveabiloty issues are you having?
Sometimes Doesn’t reverse n feel like over heating transmission so I was guessing oil pump but I’m not a mechanic
@roykeswani547 the converter is more than likely failed and will need to be replaced or rebuilt. same goes for the pump/stator your transmission will need to be rebuilt internallly if the converter has sent metal thru the unit.
Can I bring my baby to you
im down in houston tx @@roykeswani547
