    As an Amd fan this is excellent. With actual competition from intel it’s gonna stop AMD from getting a monopoly on gaming cpus. It’s a lot more stable for both companies as well.

    • @lycanthoss
      @lycanthoss 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I mean for there to be competition there has to be plentiful supply. Look at the GPU market. There is 0 competition, you get whichever card has the best value that you can afford to spend. Thankfully Intel has their own fabs so the supply problems are not bad right now, but consider what will happen when Intel starts making cpus from TSMC nodes, unless they change their plans and use Intel nodes.

I'm currently looking at which of the four CPUs (5600U, 5800U, 11400H and 11800H) to get in my new worklaptop and I need at least 3-4 hours, relatively high load productivity time away from the wall without my laptop slowing to a crawl. Loaded power consumption is an entirely different thing from idle / idle adjacent power consumption.
      At 45W, a processor can kill an FAA approved battery within 2 hours, even if it doesn’t boost at all.

    • @ilnahro6076
      @ilnahro6076 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@DGao-zz5vq the thing about that is that when it comes to TDP ratings 45W! = 45W. AMD measure them differently from Intel and AMD's calculation doesn't even relate to physical power consumption. So what would be useful would be a solid comparison of how much there CPUs or the complete platforms use in total. The TDP ratings are a very poor indicator in that regard

      @@ilnahro6076 Jarrod’s Tech has a good video on 5800H vs 11800H at different power limits. The short conclusion, IIRC, is that at PL1/extended of above ~60W, Tiger Lake overtakes Cezanne in multithreaded workload, below that Cezanne takes the lead.
      It’s difficult to precisely gauge the power consumption, because their boost behaviors are different. AMD processors more opportunistically ramps up power whenever the cooling allows it, Intel operates on a boost time basis.

    Hi,
    I need some advice. I’m currently in the market for a new laptop for school that can handle games like COD WZ, productivity work, and/or some light creative work. I found the Gigabyte G5 GD & MD models. Both are have similar hardware (144Hz 72% NTSC display, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, Core i5-11400H), with the GD having a 75W RTX 3050 and the MD having a 75W RTX 3050 ti. The MD costs 100 Canadian dollars more (@ $1,249.99) over the GD (@ $1,149.99 after $100 mail-in rebate).
    So… is it worth getting the MD model (RTX 3050 ti)? Thanks in advance.

      I'm sorry but 4gb vram isn't really enough for Warzone and most other titles. try to grab a 100W+ 3060 6gb vram at back 2 school offers or save for one more month it's worth it with the additional performance.

    • @vinzman888
      @vinzman888 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@_TrueDesire_ Thanks for the advice. I've been thinking about that but it might be tough to stretch the budget any further. I suppose I could wait a little longer to save up some more cash. However, I'm not gonna be using it for intensive gaming; 1080P Medium settings would be fine for me, and I've seen both GPUs handle WZ with DLSS @ around 70-90FPS.
      What I'm really looking for is something that can handle moderate gaming (low-med settings @ 60FPS), productivity (MS Office), and light creative work (PS, LR, Premier) without breaking the bank.
      Anyway, if ever I do find a way to stretch my budget, I found the next best thing to be the Gigabyte G5 KC. It has an i5-10500H, RTX 3060, and 144Hz 99% sRGB Display but costs CA$1,500. Do you think this is a better option, even if it has an older CPU? I've seen other models from other manufacturers (ASUS TUF, MSI) with 2060/3060s but their displays aren't even at 99% sRGB, which won't be helpful for creative work.
      Thanks in advance. I really appreciate your response earlier.

      @@vinzman888 do you have access to a monitor? if so the built in one might not be the deciding factor?
      it's always nice to have a stronger cpu but it doesn't matter as much as the gpu in the end for gaming, an i5 10th series is still great.
      but i can't emphasize this enough, 4GB was great maybe 3 years ago but now games really like to have access to more. I had an AMD Fury 4GB back in the days and just after one year i couldn't use it as i wanted, swapped for nvidia gtx 1080.
      and since you do creative workloads why not give AMD a go? they last longer on battery too than intel (in balanced mode anyway).
      my desktop 3900X has worked great since release with the stock fan. i also finally upgraded my old 9th gen i7 with gtx 1060 to the Lenovo Legion 5 with AMD 5600H and RTX 3060 6GB.
      i've been building computers since the celeron single core 300 MHz days, upgrading 28K modem to 33,6K and later forked out for ISDN (two telephone lines with a whopping 128K/s haha) and i've given both Intel and AMD their respective turns, when i got more for my money, in their respective camps.
      since i live in Sweden i can't say anything regarding the prices, sorry :(
      try to find out some gaming benchmarks on some sites that shows vram caching and i don't mean you should focus on those with 4X MSAA or anything crazy like that, but 4GB is very restrictive in 1080p these days and that doesn't account for the upcoming games in 2022 or later. i try to keep my laptops for 3-4 years before upgrading since i also have my desktop, how long you use yours might differ but even if you plan to just have it for 2 years, i would say it's worth it to get 6GB vram, if nothing else you get it back when you sell it.
      sorry for the gigantic wall of text 🙏

      @@_TrueDesire_ AMD's AM4 desktop platform has far more PCIe lanes available than AMD's FP6 mobile platform. Mobile platforms are far more tightly integrated and don't have the kind of universal overprovisioning of their desktop counterparts. That's how mobile remains small and power-efficient. No OEM is going to make a Thunderbolt without AMD's engineering support. It's just not something that is possible within the scope of the current platform. Same goes for USB 4.0. Meanwhile, Thunderbolt is overkill for most users anyway. USB-C 3.2 Gen2 with DisplayPort and Power Delivery is good enough for docking stations and external storage. The prospect of attaching eGPUs to your ultrabook laptop is a bit of a pipe dream because even the plentyful 40 Gbit/s Thunderbolt 4 interface is way too much of a bottleneck for any modern GPU. It's just not a cost-effective solution. The only people who need Thunderbolt (IMHO) are scientists and high-end content creators who are shuffling tons of data (4K video material, RAW data, science data) from workstation to storage and who can really utilize the 40 GBit/s of Thunderbolt. For everyone else with their occasional USB backup plan, the 10 GBit/s of USB 3.x Gen2 is just good enough (and still blazingly fast if you ask me, if you compare it with the stagnating speed of spinning disk HDDs over the last few decades). // Tom
