  • If you deal with anxiety and sometimes experience panic attacks (as I did for over twenty years) this video will come as a relief. The root cause of anxiety usually isn’t something deep, complex or impossible to figure out.
Most anxiety is just the habit of worrying gone physical. And if you’ve got a mind prone to worry, just like I do and just like the woman who asked me about controlling it, there are solutions for you. Simple solutions that will help you if repeated over time.
And the solutions start with identifying the things that trigger you to worry. So write them down.
Are you anxious when you wake up? Are you anxious when your partner is about to come home? Are you anxious when your boss speaks to you? Are you anxious around situations or types of people? Write down the things that trigger you to worry.
Now that you identified the triggers, you can break the trigger + worry + anxiety connection by interrupting the worry part. Today, when you get triggered, use the #5SecondRule and count 5-4-3-2-1 to interrupt the trigger + worry loop, then redirect your thought patterns to something positive or exciting. Repeat. All. Day. Every. Day.
Every time you interrupt the cycle of worry + anxiety + panic, you are learning how to settle your physical and mental states before the anxious feelings escalate in your body.
I explain how in this video. And, l think you know this, but in case you don’t, I’m not a therapist. I’ve suffered from anxiety for decades. I’ve studied it and the leading research for 10 years. And I have cured myself and taught these simple techniques to my kids and over hundred thousand people in live audiences. They work. But you have to use them over and over. You know what else works? Professional treatment. So, if you have a medical concern, consult your health care provider. And if the quality of your life is suffering because of triggers, worry or anxiety-don’t try to be a hero. Go get a therapist because we all need help facing our issues and healing our minds.

Cheers for this, been searching for "breathing exercise panic attack" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Wanatthew Janlizabeth Eradicator - (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some super things about it and my mate got great results with it.

Very nice video. I am keen to do my bit. To feel better reduce negative thoughts with a simple practice. Your breath is directly related to your mind [brain] causing negative thoughts-anxiety. For a better life sit on a chair, back straight, eyes closed and observe the sensations of your incoming--outgoing breath at the entrance of the nostrils for around 5-10-15 minutes or more. Don’t fight your thoughts. Slowly the mind will relax. No deep breathing needed. Day or night, when taking a walk, when reading, on the phone, before sleep etc sit or lie down and observe your breath. Like me, make this a lifetime daily habit to have a good life. Avoid constipation as it affects the mind instantly. Best wishes Shyaaam Sir. -Counsellor.

i do have panic attacks, but its been a long road, .last night i had one, the body was agitated, he was manifesting some defensive mechanisms, but as a habbit i just simple observe what is happenning, and what happened from the begginning of using this new habit it wont reach that huge state of panic attacks, i feel some low anxiety at the moment, but it goes away pretty quickly. i had some long panic attacks in the begginning , sometimes for like two hours of panic, but now days it goes in a maximum range of ten minutes, and it vanishes. so yes, the first step is to recongnize what anxiety is, what are the tricggers and then use a new habbit to counter it ;)

Okay…I mean I see her point
But I have major sensory overload panic attacks due to a head injury..
It’s not like “oh gee I’m worried about a work project”
    The room spins basically….and I panic..who wouldn’t?
The floor feels like it’s tilting
Pop psychology like this is a bandaid for a bullet wound for some of us…
Good ideas for sure…but it’s not the end all be all..

    #AskMel
Hi Mel I’ve dealt with anxiety disorder most of my life. My question is what do I do when my spouse is not understanding and I feel completely alone not only with anxiety but in every aspect of our relationship. He is the sole provider since my anxiety has made it impossible for me to keep a job. I feel hopeless dealing not only with the anxiety attacks but also very alone :(

I must admit when I feel the panic or derealization coming on I count backwards from 10 & that distracts my mind it gets aways from the panic

Mel, can you speak at all to how the 5 second rule can help us back into prioritizing our self and limiting people pleasing?
Edit: As an example, I was just laid off a week ago, managed to go on a date for the first time in a long while. The guy turned out to not be interested. So, when I saw that text message this morning, I practically collapsed inward. How do I take this on the chin when so much of my perception is compounded by similar rejection from nearly all areas of my life, including work, school, social, romantic, sexual, etc.?

  • @theravenqueen6687

I'd like to know if there is a way to apply the 5 second rule to panic disorder or if it really only works for neurotypical people who can pinpoint their triggers.
A while ago I watched your video on how to use it and when I tried to implement it during a panic attack today I realized that I can't create an anchor thought because I don't know the definite trigger of the attack. Panic attacks come out of nowhere for no clear reason when you have the actual disorder.

    • @astrolorand8036
      @astrolorand8036 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The Raven Queen she has another video about that i believe. For example i have them at school, and the root is something embarrassing that ive done a few years ago, anchor thought would be coming home and laying in bed. But when im home and there's no triggers, i sometimes feel my heart racing, im sweating and my mind is being a mess. Then i usually go out for a few minutes so my body understands that theres no actual danger around me. You can also try having some NATURAL oils & tea around which are known for their calming effects.

Great video! And. I seriously know this is completely off topic of the video, but is it possible that a person who has a very serious mental illness like bipolar disorder or schizophrenia has a psychotic episode but forgets what they did in the episode? Because I know I have read over a million times that people DO remember their psychotic episode, but what if that isn't the case for everybody?

What if I sit there and stare at panic attacks right in face , whatever it can do, including shame, instead of running away by counting 5,4,3,2,1....

Mel Robbins... but positive for who? The negative and positive things are only personal perceptions. It's strange for me, how to link a simple but effective mental hack, with the positive and negative perceptions which ones can be completely different by everyone?...this rule is changing my life from day at night, I've fear of to become this in a kind of religion..please don't do it..I beg you...thank you for your wisdom Mell..

    • @astrolorand8036

GᗩY ᖇETᗩᖇᗪ you need an anchor thought. just counting doesnt do anything, that's only the starting ritual for redirecting into positive thoughts and getting stuff done before your start to talk yourself out of it in that small window when you realize what is it that you should do
