I feel like every modern RTS struggles with readability. It's so hard to get right. When graphics were simpler, so was readability.
Making a complex, truly 3-dimensional RTS is a not a problem, it's a blessing. But we've got to figure out how to make that palatable to the human eye. Winter says "this is happening."
And I'm like, "I hear nothing, I see pretty stars, and there are tiny points of faded brown stringing LED lights between them, which is just delightful, but I didn't know it was Christmas!"
This was a problem for me in the orignal homeworld remake and HW2. I couldnt get into it despite people saying it was a great game. Kept flying to nowhere or headed directly to target which was also not ideal sometimes.
@@ElemXCR you can enable tactical overlay and every unit has a shape over it to easily ID them. at least in homeworld 1
also the tac overlay was the best way to control units not the cool way looking at battle directly

i played homeworld 1 when i was a kid and all i was doing was making random units then going to spectate them very close flying around and fighting, good memories

That's just the norm of today. Maybe stuff like Elden Ring stands a chance, but we are all just flooded with options and bored. 20y ago if you only had one thing then that you would have played for hundreds of hours.

@@Leonhart_93 Speak for yourself. I'm almost 40 and I have a list of games I very much want to play but can't get through because I spend so much time on each one. BG3 has been occupying me for like 4 months now... And I just learned there's a Hades 2... It's too much!

Yay Homeworld! Hyped it's finally back
Sentiment based game for all of us in our 40s remembering hours spending on in when we were teenagers... But from this what I see I don't think I will spend my money on something I enjoy for 10hours and put it back on the shelf due to lack of excitement... Maybe I will buy it one day when it's on offer for £5-£10

Yeah games on Mac don't get a lot of love, they tend to perform better on windows too, so might be worth for you to run boot camp.
@@archyology i've even gotten better performance inside Parallels (win64 VM) than in macOS itself for some games like Crusader Kings 3. Parallels makes it really easy to play games since you don't need to boot into windows.

it is UTTER shit and this is coming from quite possibly the biggest homeworld fanboy of all time.
It is beyond bad, like its almost broadline theft, crowdfunded game, half the stuff they said was "in" isn't in at all, camera is fucked, the campaign is only 8hrs long (down from 28hrs from HW2) the AI are worse then Deserts of Karak (which was the most brainless fucking AI ive ever played against in an RTS)

I bought the collectors edition and for me it was worth it because I love the IP, rts and sci-fi. This is definitely a think before you buy situation. I feel this way for all rts

If you like more spacey RTS goodness, I recommend Sins of a Solar Empire. Although SoaSE II is also around the corner for release as well. The franchise is a wee bit older than SC2 debuting in 2008.
everything that's been seen by many so far is that it's nostalgic in imagery and sound but on a mechanical level it doesn't even compare to homeworld 2... if you like how this game looks just play 2 instead.. they really seem to have given this franchise the exact same treatment every other horrible nostalgia bait has done in the last 10 years. i also believed this one was going to be different but apparently it's a sickness in the industry.

The idea for me is fucking amazing! A 3D-spacial rts? yea fucking good
But as most of the RTS's, there is a severe problem on readability :\ i can see little things shooting, maybe some weird icons here and there, but im so lost as what is where :\
Yeah it's like any RTS, practice. More you play you can read it easier and then spend more brain time on tactics. And playing, not watching, teaches that a lot more.

Meet the intimidating game.
So... what exactly does H3 do that the previous games didn't? Granted, I haven't played Homeworld in a long time, but this looks like nothing new at all.
Homeworld is awesome, just for the concept, but I never found the gameplay compelling. I can never really tell what's going on. I send units into a fight, there's a bunch of flashes, and I don't really know what happened or why. I feel very disconnected from the combat. I think a testing arena would help with that; like in Reassembly, where you can design a ship (fleet, in this case) and send it into combat against another fleet, under your choice of styled AI or manually controlled. That would help a lot with being able to come to grips with the relative performance of units and combinations, as well as just being a fun auto-battler in itself.
Then there's the issue that Homeworld has never really had much diversity of units or strategy/tactics. It's too simple. I think a lot of that comes from the lack of map terrain to lend a level of dynamism. It ends up just being a bunch of ships slugging it out in the open, rather than utilizing high ground, cover, chasms, etc. that terrestrial RTS has. In space games like Fractured Space the terrain of asteroids, stations, and even other ships was still vitally important but that's because you controlled a single ship, so you could really precisely utilize cover/positioning. HW has too many ships to control for that. Might be good for them to introduce some ships that can create cover, e.g. shields, like in SupCom. But I think the shields should be directional, or have segmented HP, so you can flank or focus them down by attacking the right angle. The goal is more dynamic tactical options.

It's not bad once you figure out some basics.
HW1 and HW2 were ahead of their time in features and strategies. Somehow HW3 is behind H1 and H2 20+ years later 🤔
Was planning to buy this game once they remove the "Denuvo" but, after seeing that reviews (Also about your data), holy sheet no for me. Just gonna play the waiting game till they change it or if not then. Hope the game prosper in future. It was a good run HW 1 and HW 2 (Not remastered because they abandon after few updates), goodbye.

Tbf CnC Twilight was originally suppose to be Chinese only.
It was literally there version of the game.
And funny enough DoW2 is the best one out of all of them, it still has a very active pvp community (elitemod) where as the other 2 games are dead. So basically the majority of us actually don't agree with you.
For promotional intent and purposes, it’d work better if you pre recorded your gameplay and did a voice over commentary of what was actually happening ;p

I must say, I'm not impressed by this latest homeworld. It looks good, but it's going the same way all RTS games seem to be going, with a greater focus on how fast you can click rather than the actual strategy and planning. I guess modern audiences just don't have any patience or brains. Kinda sad really.
If you like giving all your data away... Play Homeworld 3.

RTS games have been dead since SC2 in 2010 nothing has come close to being as good as SC2 and with each new entry it feels like they get worse. Not sure if it's because RTS games are less profitable or what but companies don't seem to care at all about them.
So much visual noise, with almost no clear information given, mixed with absolutely ridiculous comms spam makes this a NO from me dawg. Looks absolutely beautiful, but miserable to even begin to play. Yikerz.

GROUP 1 ( your Mothership and miners, along with 2 support ships ) GROUP 2 ( THIS IS YOUR ATTACK UNITS group them up together and smash the enemy ships >>> USE FOCUS FIRE ONE TARGET AT A TIME ) watch your gameplay, you are WAY TO SPREAD OUT

I heard this game was utter trash? Has mixed reviews on steam, most of the people saying the AI is braindead as fuck and the story is a shambs.
A shame really, considering Home World 1 and 2 imo are the 2 greatest RTS games ever made.

The game is fine, it got review bombed because the story mode didnt live up to over 20 years of nostalgia goggles, same reason Valve will never make HL3.
want this game to be cool, but it's way too slow for me man.
