I wasn’t sure if I had toenail fungus, had it just on one toe, so I went to a dermatologist as I did not injure my foot. The sample the doctor took sent off and came back as toe nail fungus. My fungus is white and not the gray or black nail some people get, while awaiting the test results, the nail began to hump up and that made some pain in the toe. I’ve been on Lamisil prescription for 60 days, and it no longer hurts but the doctor will likely refill the prescription to be sure until the nail grow out further. If in doubt, get the nail tested as it can spread to other of your nails if it is fungus and it could also spread to other members of the family. It is a pain in the butt with foot soaks, etc., but better to get rid of it.
I got stepped in twice in gym and my toenail is bruised but not bad enough I need to get it fixed. We started icing it and it’s helping. I unfortunately have an ingrown toenail on the same foot and it’s making it worse. But I’m better now it’s much better

@@EMCG09 if you had hit your toe nail in a way that may have caused brusing, than don't worry. It's the blood pooling. My nail took around a month to get rid of the discoloration and was back to normal. No intervention needed, just the body needs to do its thing and absorb the remaining blood. Now, if you didn't ever have any impact on your toe to cause it, then I would be concerned. But sometimes we have a minor injury and when it doesn't hurt anymore you tend to forget all about it and what may have caused it (at least for me and bruises on my arm from taking a corner to sharpy). for me my nail kept hitting the toe box of the cleats i wear for football, and we had double practice a day running a lot. i hope it’s a bruise because it’s started ever since i’ve been running and also is painful when running
@@malenihurtado6494 It’s called a runners toe and is pretty common, for some people it hurts and for others it doesn’t. Id recommend just trying to break your cleats in more so it becomes softer. It goes away over time , pain did much sooner than the bruising tho from what i barely remember
Hi, I dropped a metal can of disenfectant spray on my left foot, I went to the doctor. I was in excruciating pain, it was so bad that I felt like I was going to vomit and pass out and my big toe was very swollen and underneath my toenail was very dark, like a deep purplish color. A exray was done and I was told that I bruised my foot and that it wasn't broken. Even though this has been months ago I still get this throbbing pain and the dark color underneath my toenail did move and it lightened up some but I noticed that my toenail area right before my cuticle looks like it's not quite connected to the cuticle.
I kinda have the same thing but it’s not as bad, thank god. I got stepped on hard twice. It’s bruised and swollen and the side of the nail is coming up, but did you try ice? Ice could take down the swelling and pain :) it helps a lot
That may be separation or "lifting" of the nail plate from the nail be underneath. Very common, but fortunately, usually temporary and improves as the nail grows out.

That depends...The nail doesn't normally get thicker right away, but can appear thicker if the blood blister lift the toenail off the nail bed (even slightly).

my bruise turned into toenail fungus ...that requires a daily battle... basically cutting off the diseased parts / infected and then using ciclopirex ... if I forget a day then the toenail will make fast gains and could disease what was 2 months of healthy growth...

I had a hematoma under my big right toe. Hurt so bad couldn’t even put on my shoe. My nail fell off a week later. I smelled the dried blood under the severed toenail it smelled so bad but so good. You should try it.
Forget creams or soaking feet. Eliminate sugar and refined flour from your diet and take a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar (Bragg's) in a glass of water twice a day. You will start to notice a change in 1-2 weeks. Takes several months to be completely gone.
What about toenail melanoma. My big toe nail has been black for weeks and it's not growing out and read it could be melanoma if it's not moving up with the nail as it grows . Dr didn't say but I'm now worried

@@kekcringe2582 I doubt it would be melanoma if it's on both nails. I think mine was caused by wearing a tight shoe. Could be what caused yours too. It's grown out fully now. If you would like peace of mind I would go see the Dr. It doesn't take much to damage a nail.

I don’t remember hitting my toe, although I did do a 2 week marching band boot camp thing which maybe caused a bruise? Anyway, there is a small dark brown spot on both my big toes in the same spot on both toes so I’m hoping a lot that it’s not fungus, I don’t think so, but that being said, it hasn’t moved or grown at all since I got it about 3 weeks ago.
OhNo! That certainly can happen. When the nail bed bleeds causing a bruise, it can lift and separate the toenail itself from the nail bed underneath, making it possible for the fungus to get in under the toenail.

@@DocOnTheRun Thanks to my 30 something grandkid. Very unusual location. No doctor was able to detect it. On the insistance of my grandchild went to see a podiatrist. I thought the bruise was there because I was always hitting it. They made 2 biopsies after removing the nail. they came positive as melanoma. Proceeded to an oncologist who removed the 1 st phalange. of my big toe and another suspicious one in the groin, third biopsy came out good. It has'nt spread, it was a small miracle. I wasted more than a year. Blessings!
Don’t forget melanoma is an important possibility for hyperpigmentation under the nail.
