    Maybe for the 3D printed parts: 1. The nature of 3D printed parts are inherently not well sealed, so applying some sort of surface coating may help. Maybe something like a fuel take sealer? 2. If clamping force is the issue, maybe a metal flange, something easy to CNC machine, on the backside of the nylon flange to sandwhich the nylon against the engine. Effectively a very very large washer!

    • @danilolattaro
      @danilolattaro 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      +1 for the metal flange clamping the 3d printed part to the block

      Replace the leaking plastic parts with aluminum, machined flat at the interface. Use a thin OEMish sealer between the mating parts to get a seal that can hold up to the pressure - forced induction creates a lot of pressure on the intake tract.

    Keep in mind that with RC fuel, especially if it's castor or a castor blend, there's often lots of unburned oil.
    Iirc mine usually had 15%+ oil, supposedly not just for lubrication but for heat transport as well.
    So, with that kind of fuel the exhaust will always be spitting lots of stuff.
    That's not a bug, it's a feature!

    • @comethiburs2326
      @comethiburs2326 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      makes sense. glow plug engines wouldnt last long if the fuel was burnt cleanly. no piston rings, very tight gaps.

    • @landistitman2973
      @landistitman2973 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      you hit it right on the head with the oil being spewed out. I only had a 3.5cc engine in my RC car but it would wet my hand pretty good if I put it near the exhaust while running. 50cc of blown engine is going to throw oil pretty good.

    You probably know this but just to be sure: Keep in mind that Methanol is hydrophilic. It absorbs moisture from the air. If theres methanol in the engine, steel parts like the crankshaft or the bearings are likely to rust after some time. You can prevent this by flushing the engine with oil spray after it ran.

    • @cravenmoorehead5636
      @cravenmoorehead5636 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well it's a 2 stroke so I think the oiling is taken care of.

      @christiansprojects-cgmanuf1426 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cravenmoorehead5636 That's what I thought first, too. But even with the oil residues, the small model airplane two strokes tend to rust after some time. I have had many of those two strokes with rusted crankshafts and bearings.

    Great job Alex! I was not so optimistic about it on first try. Glad the dripping/spraying fuel did not ignite.

    As an owner of a couple of 50cc motorcycles and some larger two strokes this thing blows my mind. Most entertaining channel on youtube I get the same feeling just watching as I do from my own builds. When you get back to Bonneville I will be travelling from Australia to cheer you on. Congratulation on the start up one step closer and a big one at that. You are killin it mate.
