    In this video we show you how to replace your muffler using this universal performance muffler by Borla. Borla has a patented straight-through and multi-core technology that helps increase horsepower and torque. Whether you're looking to replace your muffler due to age or get a different sound out of your exhaust, consider this Borla muffler as an affordable option.
    Borla does offer an entire Cat-Back Exhaust System (Touring Part # 14659) but it is significantly more costly than one of the universal units they offer. With the right offset, you can tie this muffler into your existing exhaust system to make this work for your application.
    - We recommend using the 2.5" muffler for a 3rd Gen Toyota 4Runner.

    I have the same exact muffler on my 3rd gen. I love the sound! Once the truck warms up, the sound is a steady low tone, but not obnoxious. At highway speed, there’s no droning, just a steady throatier sound.

    Excellent video! I am going to give the Borla a try. Last time I took the those flanges apart, the bolts were completely rusted together like yours. I ended up cutting the nuts off with an angle grinder, and popping the heads out, just installed some new bolts/nuts/lock washers to put it back together. Great job welding that together too, its sometimes hard to get everything set right, and not burn through the pipe :)

    Bora makes a nice cat back system that's an easy install. I put one on my 96 4runner. It routes the exhaust tip straight out the back instead of the side

    • @TimmyTheToolman

      Definitely many options for people to decide. You could also do a turn down (small 45 from the backside of the muffler) and then you don’t see the exhaust pipe at all!

    No matter how ugly the bolts I’ve always used a propane torch/PB Blaster, and patience to unscrew the flanges. Recommend save the flanges at all cost....then just bolt it back together with new Toyota bolts, that way it will come apart again one day. I also suggest renewing all gaskets every time.

    • @TimmyTheToolman
      @TimmyTheToolman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah we 100% agree. We tried but at the end of the day, we decided to scrap that last flange. Sometimes unexpected executive decisions need to be made to complete the filming in 1 day. We also mentioned replacing gaskets one this video. Thanks for your comment.

      @@TimmyTheToolman yer mate...hopefully I’m not coming off too critical. Your channel is an awesome resource that I appreciate frequently. Guess I’ve had occasion to remove/reseal/reassemble my exhaust completely several times over the years on my ‘02 SuperTaco. It’s the TRD stainless steel one so I’m all about keeping it going. The one issue I have is I am curious what guys are using for the exhaust manifold gaskets on their SS TRD headers. I would actually do a valve job/fix my potentially cracked head if I knew what to use for TRD header manifold gaskets. I should have had the foresight to buy a spare gasket set 20 years ago when I could have.

    • @TimmyTheToolman
      @TimmyTheToolman  ปีที่แล้ว

      Powerband and sound aside, the reason for recommending the 2.5” is so the muffler can fit over your existing stock exhaust tubing. The stock tube is 2.25”. If chris would have got the 2.5” the install would have been easier with less couplings involved

The crazy thing to me is I had an AFE cold air intake (similar to k&n) and that thing was so loud I couldn’t even talk or hear music in the truck, I have since removed it. This muffler is way more quiet than the intake was even with the turn down right after the muffler. What's life like as Captain Obvious? At the point in the video where you saw that, they were just seeing if the bolts were going to fight them or not. Yeah, they did eventually remove the bolts out all the way when they were ready to remove the assembly. I wish people would watch the whole video before talking shit.

      @@TimmyTheToolman I did watch the whole video. Sorry, I thought that was the same flange that got stuck. Way to respond like an asshat tho.

      @@Dmccali86 Well Dude, you started it, not me. I respond accordingly to the comments that come in. If you think you can come on somebody's channel and talk shit and not get it back, well sorry, that's not how it goes on this channel. You either get some shit talking back or I just block your comments from being seen in the future. You said you were sorry but then insulted me. Kind of hard to accept that as an apology. Anyway Dude, you can have the last comment if you want it. I'm done. Just know if you talk more shit, you're gone. I run this channel with Sean to help people. Dealing with A-hole comments is just one of the negatives and realities of being a TH-cam Creator.

      It sounds very similar to the stock muffler, just a tad bit louder and deeper. Hard to capture on camera but definitely a sophisticated growl, not an obnoxious loud sound.
