A place like that would make a great art studio for me ,, I’ve built a workshop at home here in Essex where I build my picture frames , love it in there
G'day Les, hope you have a great holiday as welll as xmas and new year. I will be building my workshop / man cave once the house is built. Got to have an escape.
I'm glad to hear you have planned for your later years, Les. Many don't, it can end up messy. Thanks to you showing assisted living, that's for me, as I am single.😊
Thanks for taking time to comment, I agree many don't plan for their demise and leave it to others. Hope for the best always, hope I don't get any illness and live a long and healthy life. Have a great Christmas and New Year🎅🙏
Retired! Don't Give Up Awesome thumb nail Les, will do the same only reversed for mine. Drive carefully enjoy the view, resort is reserved with a deposit, nice buffet there we can have dinner after the live stream.
I'm thinking about it. I left the UK two years ago and so far have been in Portugal, Spain and now France. Spent a few months in Thailand in the 90s. Am tempted to give it another go, maybe long term.
No harm in trying, I was going to build a house in France, Lived in Italy for a while but Thailand has won. Best wishes for your future plans. Thanks for watching.🎅🙏
Thanks for another uplifting video Les - it is still the dream to retire to Thailand (the French Alps would be number one place but I need a lottery win to afford it!!). I have a month off work to visit next year where I will assess this option of taking early retirement and moving to Thailand. My military pension will provide more than enough for a comfortable existence straight away, rent my house out, pension from my current job in 5 years time and then wait to see what state pension I will get!! So finances should not be an option for a good standard of living. Cannot wait to feel the sun on my skin and the sand between my toes! We all know the UK is going down hill and has been for years and I can only see more Brits heading away from the UK for a better life. Have a great Christmas and New Year Les 🙂
Fingers crossed for you and your visit, best wishes for your future plans, I like the Als also I liked to Ski. Have a great Christmas and New Year Les & Ploy
Hopefully it will bei am also 64i was always going to buying a house but I keep watching ur vodio abut thinking outside the box I eas showing it to ferinds &they say go for it but haveing a mojor stroke I think it would be a better for me
Hi Les. Maybe there is a bias on who would watch and comment? I can say the Canadians I am close to love Canada and Canada opportunities. The Canada safety net for the seniors that are poor includes free medical and rental adjusted to personal wealth. Personally I am in Thailand looking at the pros and cons and a lot is just preference. Some Canadians I see are unhappy however that may be more of expectations and geography as Canada is huge. There is also a degree of risk towards thai baht getting stronger for exchange, thai government can change rules however probably not much impact for retired, and of course personal medical changes however not recommending anyone live in fear. So in the end, if you want rural Canada and own your home it becomes much more of where are you happy and if you really want to then justify that if one feels justification is required. Britain I do not know. USA terrifies me. Australia seems to becoming over policed with rules. See what future brings and be happy 😊
Les can you clarify what you mean by “pension” from the UK? Is that your retirement fund, like a 401K or is it like “social security” in The US? Social security in the US isn’t something we can rely on, so we have to setup a private pension fund and open a brokerage account to invest to fund our retirement, etc. How about in the UK? Is your pension public? Is it reliable or can it become insolvent? Appreciate the upload. Merry Christmas.
Our state pension is the equivalent of your social security pension. Company Pension’s & SIPP’s (Self Investment Personal Pension) are our equivalent of your 401K. Last time we had a Labour government they carried out a tax raid on the pension funds and now they are back in power it looks like they going to do it again.
@@IsaanMan Appreciate your response. When it gets "raided", are your pensions reduced? Do you get a C.O.L.A. every year to help you keep up with inflation? Roughly 33% of Americans rely on Social Security for more than 90% of their retirement income (scary thought). I wonder what percentage rely on them in the UK. Thanks again.
@@steveaustin1984 The tax raid was on Company and SIPP’s pensions. As corporation tax had already been paid on shares held by pension funds they got a tax credit on dividends but they stopped the tax credits meaning the pension funds got reduced income and less fund growth. This only raised £5 Billion a year. What happened then was pension funds moved the money out of the London SE and from owning 50% of the London stock market they now own about 4% and they get a lot less tax from 4% than they did from 50%. The state pension currently has a triple lock and gets annual increase of which is higher 2.5%, average wage rise or inflation rate but I doubt this will last much longer and they will go back to inflation rate. The UK though only pays this pension indexed to Countries it has reciprocal social security agreements with such as all EU Countries, USA, Turkey, Philippines and a few others and in the rest it is frozen and never increases unless you move back to the UK or a reciprocal Country. So we have the strange situation that if I was 70 and left the UK to go live with my daughter and Grandkids in the USA I would get my state pension indexed receiving all yearly increases the same as the UK but if my daughter lived in Canada and it was Canada I went to live my state pension would be frozen at the rate it was when I left the UK and I would not get any yearly increases.
Retired at 47 years old 7 years living in Thailand paid 31 years national insurance towards state pension which will be 68 by then hopefully I will never have to go back to the Uk
We spend 4 to 6 weeks in Thailand. Apart from during the pandemic, we haven’t missed a year since 2000. We absolutely love it! I wish retiring there were an option for us. Watching you with envy will have to do. 🤣
If too many retired people leave UK, the government will stop letting them take the state pension (frozen or not). Millions of pounds spent in Thailand rather than UK will be a big No No.I doubt the British public will complain either.
There would be a lot to unpick there. State pensions are a contribution based benefit as per it was set up in 1948. Besides compulsory contributions people have paid voluntary Class 2 or 3 which only count towards the state pension in order close up contribution gaps. Part of the EU withdrawal agreement was they would pay the state pension fully indexed in all EEA Countries so what about all these Polish workers, Filipino nurses etc who paid in if they retire back to their Home Countries are they going to be told tough your getting nothing and we are not honoring the EU withdrawal agreement or reciprocal agreements. 84% of those on frozen state pensions live in Australia, Canada, NZ and they pay their pensioners living in the UK their pensions fully indexed. So if the UK stopped paying it to Brits in their Countries are they going to say no problem our Tax Payers and Social Services will bail them out. At least some would return to the UK and then be able to claim for everything and increase the burden on the NHS. Some of these will be married to foreign spouses and not be able meet the financial requirements to sponsor their spouse so the government will be seen as breaking up families while arranging family reunifications for asylum seekers.
All the New arrivals will be paying into the system to fund those who have contributed already for their well being eg 4 star hotels free food and health service. ( Nod Nod Wink Wink. ) All them Doctors and Engineers will pay for our well being in older age. They ( the Government ) 👌😏will do what ever they chose to do they do not care what we think that is obvious, so live the best life while you can for as long as you can,
Don't give them ideas, I think the Australian gov already has that in place. Personally I don't think the numbers leaving are high enough yet for it to be an issue but who knows what the future will bring.
UK are happy to have all the old timers leaving. They will save a fortune on healthcare, then theres frozen pensions and then theres all those empty homes and flats that will become available.
I’ll be leaving the UK as soon as my house is sold. The country has been destroyed by Starmer and the last few governments before him. It’s now a miserable country with no hope. I cannot wait to leave and kiss it goodbye.
Looking outside the box is scary but staying inside the box is frightening. Well done best wishes for your future plans. Have a great Christmas and New Year🎅🙏

People are disillusioned because the cost of living has gone through the roof in their home country and of course the weather helps.
Some times having a look outside the Box helps to reassess things. Thanks for taking time to comment.🙏

Les the £ is going into Hyperinflation your pension will be worthless when the collapse comes I hope you are prepared because it’s coming
Pound has already lost 40 to 50% in purchasing power since 2020 through money printing
Ill cross that bridge when and if we get to it.
Hi les can't wait to retire in Thailand but have to wait for pension me 58age pension 65age your video are great well done from Scott new Zealand
Thanks so much Scot I remember thinking this at the age of 60 and now only 20 months away. Time goes very quickly.
