I might have destroyed a girl's face; Prof John Mew

  • We are all moved by incidents in our lives, which often teach us a great deal and for doctors these are usually the cases that do not go well.
    We learn most from our mistakes, but for Prof Mew this was a young girls face. He has spent the rest of this life, over four decades, in trying to make sure this can never occur to anyone else. He worries that his message has not been heard.
    This channel is part of the International Association of Facial Growth Guidance. A not for-profit organisation which aims to raise awareness of alternative orthodontic methods and ideas, which too few people are informed of.
    The main aim of the platform is to precipitate debate on why teeth are cooked. Most people are not aware that (in most cases) the dental profession has little or no idea why the teeth are crooked, or for that matter why children need major surgery. Clearly there are genetic issues, however the science is clear, the weight of quality research papers, in respected peer reviewed journals, show that our modern lifestyle is a more important factor and most importantly we can do something about this.
    This is especially important as sleep apnoea, TMD, forward head posture and a most otolaryngology problems are implicated as other symptoms of the same underlying problem.
    Disclaimer; We regularly post discussions and debates from guests and colleges. The IAFGG is not responsible for all the opinions, statements or content of the material posted, especially that from guess lecturers.

    This channel also acts as a forum to make openly, speculative suggestions, to find common ground with other professionals (in both related and seemingly unrelated fields), educated lay people and members of the public at large, to either support or detract on the information provided, but either way engage in the scientific process. In the pursuit of the truth it is normal in science to make speculative comments which may not have full scientific support, and we welcome feedback and discussion.
    In general, the videos posted on this web site are not advertisements, and will clearly be labelled as such if necessary. Apart from educational books, the association does not sell anything or encourage anyone to have any form of treatment. It does aim to make people think, consider all options, ask questions and become fully informed.
    Much of what is discussed on this site is not available from even the registered members, however a list of members is available on the web site, orthotropics.com.
    Orthotropics essential means straight or correct growth. If your faces grows well it tends to work well. The concept is based on the Tropic Premise; www.watkinsdentalsurgery.com....
    The underlying pathology of malocclusion and the related symptoms is referred to as Craniofacial Dystrophy;
    www.nature.com/bdj/journal/v21...
    The association feels that it should be possible to prevent or at least minimise the level of craniofacial dystrophy through simple public health measures.

    I, an orthodontist of 38 years experience, consider John to be a guiding light to the profession and the children he serves. I do understand why the rest of the profession is threatened because I was once like that, too. He speaks against what we were all taught. But once I came to see what John was seeing I could no longer unsee it. Now I base my entire practice on his thinking and all the recent research that now validates his thinking. I'm so happy for this recording and that you got to hear from the man himself. Long Live John Mew!

      Well weight training does increase bone density. Astronauts in the ISS in space must work out with weights every day several hours a day because the lack of gravity deteriorates the density of their bones otherwise, weight training prevents that to a great extent. Lack of physical activity also causes osteoporosis, physical activity throughout our lives prevents that.

    Very inspiring how as a new orthodontist, he didn't just take his superiors response of "oh it's just her genetic face". He didn't immediately take that answer and forget about it, but had the intellectual curiosity, empathy and honesty, to truly look at the case and find out what was happening. Normal people wouldn't want to admit that a treatment they did caused damage. They would want to just cling to what their textbooks taught them, and any abnormality could be hand-waved away by "genetics". We should all strive for this type of self-honesty and curiosity about what we see around us. Inspiring man.
    Orthodontics is something very new to the human race that we've been doing. To say that we have it all figured out would be ludicrous. I wish I had stumbled upon these smart men when I was 20 and getting pre-molars removed for traditional orthodontics. I would have maybe considered a different treatment.

    Holy shit! This is exactly the same thought process as for the shape of the eye, its need for self-calibration, and the epidemic of myopia (nearsightedness). And again very similar to Diabetes Type II and the adaptation to refined sugar. A huge pattern is appearing here... :O
    Google even noticed the similarity and sent me here, presumably since it ran out of myopia videos.

    • @malenejensen2995
      @malenejensen2995 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Could you tell more about the self-calibration of eyes, and where to find good information?

    • @VandroiyIII
      @VandroiyIII 5 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      I've been into this topic for half a year now and put an overview of what I found in a long post on Reddit: www.reddit.com/r/myopia/comments/9gkc7m/myopia_improvement_half_a_year_of_focal_distance/
      In short, the eye keeps track of image errors and accommodation to determine its shape. It's very questionable to only improve immediate clarity with glasses, without addressing possible reasons for a deforming eye.
      This is a surprisingly small subject, and a good bit of the discussion isn't happening in the open. In the acknowledgements you can find three very interesting sources. I started with Todd Becker's talk, which is on TH-cam: th-cam.com/video/x5Efg42-Qn0/w-d-xo.html - though I'm now skeptical of the IRDT theory it's based on, and there are a lot of unsolved questions. Endmyopia is a group of people who share information about improvement; it's the most active group right now, and they seem to have by far the most experience. Finally, there is very interesting research in animals, where lenses can be used to alter eyes very significantly and predictably. As stated in the post, anything involving Frank Schaeffel should be a good starting point, and will leave no doubt that eyes undergo visually guided shape changes.

    I didn't realize I'd been inadvertently doing this technique for years, thinking I was just pushing my lower jaw out to attempt to self correct the overbite. But I was actually touching my entire tongue to my palette which automatically makes my lower jaw go out a bit further. Now I have a pretty normal bite years later and people look at me like I have two heads when I say I 'have no chin' so I think this shit works yall

    I almost didn’t click on this video on way way through the Orthotropics videos because I hate clickbait titles. But actually it was THE MOST interesting one!! Wonderfully fascinating man. So glad to come across you. You’ve impacted my thoughts of my child’s jawline, certainly. Thank you.

    Such an intelligent and emphatic man he is! I've been through a lot of pain and unsuccesful treatments due other type of orthodontics and I'm paying for their "point of view" with my health for the rest of my life. The regular brackets and palate expansors were for worst. I wish I could revert the time and be treated by this man, my life, my health, my body would be so different, and my life's story too..I'm sure... If there are orthodontics out there doing the old and regular treatment, they are commiting MALA PRAXIS!!!

    My orthodontist glued metal to my teeth....but didn't address the underlying malnutrition that was causing the abnormal bone and teeth growth. Dr Weston Price opened my eyes to such a fact and Prof Mew opened my eyes further. Mainstream, modern orthodontics is fundamentally flawed I think.

    I think this illustrates my problem with people who refuse to acknowledge that some traits are better than others because then we will never be able to improve them. supposing it said that the girl's face was just as beautiful as any other and haved not acknowledged that it was a problem what was haping to it.👽
