Buying decent cars isn't hard, you will struggle to find them on traders sites, social media and free pages. Hit up the old fashioned classifieds for a bargain looked after car, they still exist. 5 years ago I bought a 97 civic with full dealer history and 2 owners for 500gbp. Other choice I had was a 1 owner 406tdi with fsh again for 500gbp, same reason because the owners were too old to use them anymore

Given the really good bargains you guys got on other cars, 700 £ for a decomposing Vitara was poor. I'd have revisited the Audi rather than burning money on a rustbucket.

Not necessarily. When I worked at a used car dealership, we had anywhere between 40-60 cars on the forecourt at any given time. Average price worked out around 13k, (500-800k in total) and we were selling 10-20 cars per week and bringing in another half trailer load of cars every week to keep the stock up. But we also had a back lot, for trade ins (like the Vitara) that weren't good enough for the forecourt, and they always got snatched up real quick because we just wanted rid of them. Having a lot of cars out front doesn't mean you haven't been able to sell them, it can just mean you've got a lot of space for a lot of different cars to ensure you have something for almost everyone.
Granted, this was 2 years ago. His story could be different what with covid and all.

All cars are way cheaper in UK compared to the rest of Europe bc they have a tiny market for them. For us market is the whole Europe since we have the steering wheel on the correct side of the car

And it's not like it needs painted properly . A bit of zinc primer n a quick blast with a rattle can would see it right
@@rsscott5672 since it's not outside it probably wouldn't be clear coated so not even that bad to paint. I just painted the engine bay of a 106 with some random enamel model railway paint and it matched up nearly exactly

I own the 2 door version (SV420) with a 2L 4cyl (J20a) but live in Australia luckily lol so no road salting.

@@craigsampson3386 I can only comment on how to find out how many of a particular model is left in the UK unfortunately. I think to put it bluntly, if its a Vitara and it lives in a climate similar to that of England's, its guaranteed to rust!

@Do One Done it myself, I have mates in the business. You must be doing it wrong. £120 in iron for 1 and a half tonnes of Suzuki is a shite rate. Up north scrap was at £140 a tonne recently, now sat at a steady £100 at most places around here.

I think I couldn't bear to scrap that. It came with 2 good arches. Weld them in, and it seems like you'd have a great car? Maybe swap the 2 seatbases or find another passenger seatbase to fix the bolster.
Exactly. I can't remember the last time I've seen an 90's 4x4 aside from the eternal Mk1 and Mk2 Discovery. I really miss things like the Pajero being a relatively common sight because they had a million times more character than the stuff on the road today.

It looks like there are a lot more cars there than 20, and I think that's his estimation of what they worth. 30+ cars worth a few hundred pound a piece in his head is a quarter of a million.
It's also been said that "XX million on the forecourt" is dealer speak for 'I haven't shifted a single car in months'.
From what's visible in the background I don't think there's any cars there worth 5 figures, to a normal person anyway.

Repair the rust so it gets MOT in April.
More than rust. It needs a steering rack and has a serious oil leak. When it gets inspected, they will probably find it needs brake pipes, ball joints and more rust repairs doing to pass the MOT.

We used to have a Vitara, when I was like 7. Our Octavia was scrapped, and it was a cheap stop gap car. It was a silver 3 door of a similar age, with a knocking engine that stunk of petrol with an oil leak, but it was a hell of a car for 2 months.

I can't believe these prices. Used cars where you guys live are absolute steals, you can literally find anything. Here in Canada, everything is overpriced with loads of KM's and you genuinely can't find anything reasonably decent or drivable unless you have a price limit of of maybe $6000-$8000 (CAD), and I'm saying that with a grain of salt.

Yes it has chronic rust and may problems but I bet the CT team can sort pretty much all of it. The Vitara, especially the V6 is indeed a rare beast and worth preserving as they are not 10-a-penny like some Audi or Escort.

My Granda got a 2009 Skoda Fabia 4-Door for 650 quid (80,000 Miles/Diesel) and all that it needed done was the gearbox & the wipers. No mot either but passed first time with no major issues. Best bargain I know of

Quick PSA, just because a car has a valid MOT, it doesn't mean it is still road legal. You are still required to keep the vehicle in a safe condition.

@@ondank They're probably not, it's just that rarely do customers/victims organise together to take down a garage and it's usually too much hassle for one person.
Interestingly, a car only has to be roadworthy and have a valid MOT, which means you can legally drive a car you know would fail an MOT provided it is roadworthy, which is a far more limited definition - basically the lights and brakes must work, lights and windows should be clean. The car should also be maintained (so tyres have tread and air, washer bottle has fluid, brake and other fluids checked). So, in all likelihood, that car is road legal, although you do wonder how it passed an MOT 8 months ago!
