I have a 2015 land cruiser and I thought the turn assist was sort of silly gimmick until I needed it. Entered down a muddy road cloaked by snow and flanked by deep ditches. By the time I realized this was a mistake it was going to be very difficult to back my way out. Turn assist has absolutely saved me from going intothe ditch multiple times.
Great review. Love my 200 series Land Cruiser. Price is mentioned often, but these are made with the comfort of a Range Rover and the drive train durability closer to the classic Defender. You can drive hundreds of miles in a 200 series with all 7 passengers feeling like they are traveling in first class comfort. And, you’d have to look under the car to see how tough the vehicle is built. Land Cruisers are in a different class of their own, and are 100% made in Japan with factories dedicated to making these vehicles to the highest quality standard.
This thing is amazing, it's absolutely bullet proof. The only thing putting me off isn't necessarily the amount of fuel it drinks and the cost involved, it's having to fill up so often!
Bought one today! Delivery in Johannesburg only in March 2021. Compares favourably to wife's Range Rover being 2x the price. I am worried Wife will love this more than Land Rover product after a few drives.

Nothing beats this off-roader King and it’s been tested and tested for decades in Australian’s vast harsh land, from snowy mountains to sunshine beach, from Simpson desert to top end rainforest, from remote mining camps to large farm lands, from towing heavy caravan or a fishing boat to a weekend kids footy drop off, it’s truely an unbreakable SUV. Thanks to Toyotas superb reliability and strong resale value it’s worth every penny ( top spec model costs AUD $120k here similar price to a BMW X5) !! When one buys this car, they don't buy it for fuel economy, high tech features etc etc, you buy it and keep it forever, you buy an icon that stands out from everything on the road.
Land Rover's have also done all of this too. Besides I only plan on taking it into North Georgia, Arkansas, and similar places. Just put a good warranty on the Land Rover and it will be fine.

True. The suspension system first appeared on the GX, but we shouldn’t have said it was the Lexus variant. We even filmed an LX a couple years ago noting it was a land cruiser under the skin. 🤷🏻♂️

I myself have the same car in black colour. I live in Pakistan and here it's used mostly by ministers and business tycoons. I'm really enjoying it and it's really a head turner in Pakistan.

At the end and start of summer I usually hose down the chassis, use those foam brushes that remove most contaminants, then hit it with Inox MX3. Picked that little trick up from Ronny Dahl. Unlike WD40 that goops up and drips this self levels and clings to the chassis. Prevents a ton of rust issues in general. My GX has 205k miles on it now so it did go most of its life without it. Even in the snow belt a lot less mud and snow cake up on the chassis and rust is not a concern at all any more. We are a family of Land Cruisers, we have a 1978 40series with 257k km, a 2005 120 series with 500k km and a 2018 150 series with 110k km, not a single glitch. We use them for work (vineyards, olive orchards) and fun... love these cars and they are so low maintenance. The 200 series is a bit big the type of roads we use otherwise we would have on. :) (we always buy used so the “new price” is not a thing to consider.
Nothing else can take my family of 6 and all our gear to the ends of the earth like this thing can. Now to wait for 10 years until I can afford the 2020.
The Landcruiser is unnecessarily expensive in the US. In other parts of the world one can get equally capable landcruiser with less luxury features for much less. People who want to use the landcruiser to the full potential will not be buying the luxury US version.

Now they have a mode that will get you unstuck buried to the frame. Nothing here in America comes close nor will last anywhere as long as a Land Cruiser
My dad has a 99. It’s been the biggest and baddest vehicle I’ve ever seen. If Toyota one day makes the land cruiser more affordable it’d be a killer on the market. I mean just imagine a land cruiser that’s not that expensive

An important difference to note between the LC and 4Runner TRD PRO is the 3rd row option in the LC not just the close turn option. This feature alone makes the LC much more attractive IMO.
Great video, really enjoy how you present the vehicles. I love the Land Cruiser but can't afford it just yet. I will probably get a 4Runner TRD OFF ROAD. I will only buy a Toyota or Lexus because I have a long history with Toyota and its quality.
minor correction - the Torsen center diff has a nominal 40:60 torque split (not max) but if can transfer more or less as needed. Based on documents I found it looks like up the split can go from 53:47 to 29:71 F:R while being unlocked, and of course O:100 to 100:0 locked. It's a killer system in that unlocked you have Quattro level AWD and locked you have true 4WD and you can pick your poison. Unlock 4-lo means crazy tight turning with no scrubbing while still having 4 lo speeds. Thats how you have to use the OTA function as well, with the center unlocked. Same story as my GX470 which is glued on and off-road.

Then again I've found critical typo's in their official brochures (wrong angles) that they acknowledge so I guess it doesn't surprise me so much. Why not put three torsens on this thing? I mean, I know the cost would increase and likely bust the economy even further, but it would be an absolute beast would it not? Could even make it electronically triple locked. Toyota would never do it, but a guy can dream...
I have a LC200, and am finally using it overlanding in China. Love it. So much better than the G Professional i also own. But now i am very tempted to try one of China's modern SUV. Tested the BYD Pao. Very impressed
In my country, full option Land Cruiser variant is ZX and its price is $187,000. Whereas high optioned Porsche, Audi, Mercedes, BMW, Land Rover SUV priced lower yet our people prefer LC and interestingly less than 5% take it for serious off road.
We own 2 four runners. SR5 and Limited. Got rid of the Cadillac and the ML359. We'll NEVER go back......... Looking forward to the new Land Cruiser. I'm hooked............

tried dubai desert safari tour in this legendary car. 99% of the operators use lc & only saw only 1 hummer h2. the operator inform only lc is reliable enough for long term desert tour - as getting stuck with a breakdown in the midst of desert is their worst nightmare
To answer your question sir, if money were no object, i would get the LC200. I dont need the car to steer, ill be driving, i dont need hi-rez/hi tech, i have computers and a modern smart phone for that. but what i would be buying is an auto that would last anywhere from 300-500k miles, mostly only needing the normal scheduled maintenance. Some may want to trade in their cars/trucks every 3-6 years, but id spend the money and just own this vehicle for 10-15 and be happy about it. There are several youtube vids about people or reviewers who own 6, 10, 15, 20, 25 yr old Land Cruisers and they still run very very well with very little being done to them. That is the kind of dependability I would want out of a vehicle. The only next-car i would buy after my current 5th Gen 4Runner is a LandCruiser 200 series...
For $90K the Land Cruise should get the locking diffs like the 4Runners so Land cruiser 200 can be capable off-road as a 4Runner. Yes the Terrain management and crawl control is good but a locking diff is way way better than electronic systems. Too bad USA market does not get the real Land cruisers like in Asia, Africa, Australia,etc have, the 70 series.
Lion Runner I agree, also size and weight matters off-road and it is not an advantage of the LC. I hope the rumors are true they're bringing a stripped down rugged version to the US

Toyota definitely need to bring something better than a 4Runner to compete with a Jeep Wrangler in terms of off-roadability. I'm absolutely not a fan 4Runner been IFS despite all the offroad tech.
My 2013 has Multi-Terrain Select and I’ve never had to use it or the turn assist feature, but I feel reassured in knowing they’re just a button away. 😊
I own a Lexus LX 570 version of the Land Cruiser, and when people ask me about my mpg I always add, "If you have the money to own this vehicle you don't care what the mpg is". The 570 version is hands down the absolute best vehicle I have ever owned, and I have owned several incredible vehicles over my lifetime. None of them compare to the Lexus LX 570.
When it comes to luxury, the land rover defender/range rover would win, but when it comes to reliability, the land cruiser cant be beaten by any SUV in the market
This is easily the most respected product Toyota makes, even over their long serving Camry and Corolla sedans. I just want them to modernize it and the LX so more people would consider it.

The Prado is the Lexus GX460. Different engine and specifications, but basically the same vehicle and chassis. LC200 and LX570 are based on the same vehicle.
Sorry, me again. KDSS was developed for the 120 series Prado by an Australian company for their domestic market (the GX470 is the same vehicle but Lexus). Its always active and is never "disabled", its a hydraulically cross linked sway bar. It doesn't "disconnect" the sway bar, its always connected. It actually hydraulically forces the sway bar apart with cross axle articulation and forces the sway bar to stiffen with same side loading (turning) which allows for a much stiffer sway bar without affecting off-road composure or comfort. Its better than a sway bar disconnect in a number of ways.
While I won't dispute the Land Cruiser's capability, the price in North America certainly makes the 4Runner look like a better deal, especially if you go used.

However you point out the price point and the few obvious differences or tools that the Land Cruiser offers and some similarities with other Toyota offerings as well as the fact that you can get a G-wagon for near that same money. Here’s the thing, the Land Cruiser has intangibles that the other Toyota trucks don’t offer. Every land cruiser is built extra tough and so on many features you may often over look like the fact that is built to last 25 years before any part failures. Other than oil changes and tires and other typical routine maintenance the Land Cruiser should not fail. It also is the Toyota badge that attacks the Land Cruiser customers when bought new. It’s typically a business owner that doesn’t want to show up places looking like a show off to his or her employees. They don’t want to be seen in a Lexus or Mercedes when the average person sees them they may assume it is a 4Runner. But they get the quiet comfortable ride like a high end luxury vehicle. They typically own Mercedes and other high end vehicles but want something less in your face to drive as a daily driver. -

4runner half the price you get half size drive shaft, cvd, lower control arm, stabilizer bar half reliability when under heavy loaded offroading, LC200 drivetrain is like a small truck!
I have a 2001 and 2015 LC. I'm looking at trading in 15 for 2020. Drove a Ranger Rover HSE while quarantined in FL and not gonna lie. It was fun and really fast. But the minute I do any comparison research its just no contest. Landcruisers dont appeal to the driver who wants to be noticed. But damn if that isn't yet another reason to love this car. Also I can fit two 15yo hockey goalies and their bags/equipment. Im sticking with Toyota.
MAJOR piece of NECESSARY information left-out of this review: it brings $90 because it's worth every penny on reliability and capability alone. That vehicle is built FAR beyond the standards of a Jeep or some similar-type off road SUV. The Escalade is $90K and worthless in 5 years (looks like the vehicle on National Lampoons Vacation - the Truckster). The FJ's LAST FOREVER and are redundant in engineering for the people that MUST GET BACK. American's play with Jeeps - they are nowhere to be found where you actually NEED a 4WD. I presently own the FJ200 & a '77 FJ40 (Land Cruiser). I've also owned the 80 and 100 series and grew-up in Papua New Guinea where they are necessary. I returned to Australia and PNG last summer to learn that a vast majority of off-road vehicles are Land Cruisers, albeit a version we don't get in the U.S. (I think it's the 79 series). Don't get me started on why I can't buy a 6 spd. manual turbo diesel in the US!!! I'm still mad at Toyota … THAT is an awesome and capable truck. If you like the Escalades, Jeeps, the (formerly esteemed) Range Rover … and perhaps the Cayenne, you'll really never absorb why the Land Cruisers are worth their sought value. ** also, failed to mention that the on-road (HWY) ride/drive of the Land Cruiser is far superior to the Tundra and/or Sequoia **

I have travelled across remote parts of africa and its the same story. Toyotas rule! Its always due to their reputation for reliability. I met people in africa who wont even touch other japanese brands like mitsubishi because they feel they are not on toyotas level when it comes to reliability. The one problem with modern diesel engines from what i hear is that they are too sensitive to bad quality diesel and can refuse to drive if filled with it. I have heard complaints from people in rural south america and parts of africa (mainly west africa) that the new diesel vehicles they tried to use wont work with local diesel (which is bad quality). Apparently newer petrol cars dont have this same issue with poor quality petrol.
That sound of "torque' vectoring" is present in my 2021 Wrangler Rubicon despite locked rear and front diff in 4 Low when I pres off road plus button. I did not hear that before in JK model.
Nice demo, and yeah that CRAWL system sounds so awkward. My RC crawler has the turn assist feature which they called it a "dig" feature. I am sure Toyota went pretty conservative on the tuning of this feature because theoretically, you could make the car rotate at its inner rear wheel at the cost of its mechanical lifespan.

minor correction - the Torsen center diff has a nominal 40:60 torque split (not max) but if can transfer more or less as needed. Based on documents I found it looks like up the split can go from 53:47 to 29:71 F:R while being unlocked, and of course O:100 to 100:0 locked. It's a killer system in that unlocked you have Quattro level AWD and locked you have true 4WD and you can pick your poison. Unlock 4-lo means crazy tight turning with no scrubbing while still having 4 lo speeds. Thats how you have to use the OTA function as well, with the center unlocked. Same story as my GX470 which is glued on and off-road.
Toyotas documentation said maximum. However, those docs aren’t always correct.
@@drivingsports how interesting. Its definitely nominal not max since the torsen gearset is naturally geared rear bias. Then again I've found critical typo's in their official brochures (wrong angles) that they acknowledge so I guess it doesn't surprise me so much. Why not put three torsens on this thing? I mean, I know the cost would increase and likely bust the economy even further, but it would be an absolute beast would it not? Could even make it electronically triple locked. Toyota would never do it, but a guy can dream...
This land cruiser costs around 2-3 crore in my country which is around 160 to 250 thousand USD so be happy and don't complain about it being expensive
I have a LC200, and am finally using it overlanding in China. Love it. So much better than the G Professional i also own. But now i am very tempted to try one of China's modern SUV. Tested the BYD Pao. Very impressed

In my country, full option Land Cruiser variant is ZX and its price is $187,000. Whereas high optioned Porsche, Audi, Mercedes, BMW, Land Rover SUV priced lower yet our people prefer LC and interestingly less than 5% take it for serious off road.
We own 2 four runners. SR5 and Limited. Got rid of the Cadillac and the ML359. We'll NEVER go back.........

tried dubai desert safari tour in this legendary car. 99% of the operators use lc & only saw only 1 hummer h2. the operator inform only lc is reliable enough for long term desert tour - as getting stuck with a breakdown in the midst of desert is their worst nightmare

To answer your question sir, if money were no object, i would get the LC200. I dont need the car to steer, ill be driving, i dont need hi-rez/hi tech, i have computers and a modern smart phone for that. but what i would be buying is an auto that would last anywhere from 300-500k miles, mostly only needing the normal scheduled maintenance. Some may want to trade in their cars/trucks every 3-6 years, but id spend the money and just own this vehicle for 10-15 and be happy about it. There are several youtube vids about people or reviewers who own 6, 10, 15, 20, 25 yr old Land Cruisers and they still run very very well with very little being done to them. That is the kind of dependability I would want out of a vehicle.
The only next-car i would buy after my current 5th Gen 4Runner is a LandCruiser 200 series...
For $90K the Land Cruise should get the locking diffs like the 4Runners so Land cruiser 200 can be capable off-road as a 4Runner. Yes the Terrain management and crawl control is good but a locking diff is way way better than electronic systems. Too bad USA market does not get the real Land cruisers like in Asia, Africa, Australia,etc have, the 70 series.

Lion Runner I agree, also size and weight matters off-road and it is not an advantage of the LC. I hope the rumors are true they're bringing a stripped down rugged version to the US
@@fouUili684 if they come with solid axles (front+rear) and a better fuel tank it would be so awesome. If its a IFS that's no good. Toyota definitely need to bring something better than a 4Runner to compete with a Jeep Wrangler in terms of off-roadability. I'm absolutely not a fan 4Runner been IFS despite all the offroad tech.
My 2013 has Multi-Terrain Select and I’ve never had to use it or the turn assist feature, but I feel reassured in knowing they’re just a button away. 😊

I own a Lexus LX 570 version of the Land Cruiser, and when people ask me about my mpg I always add, "If you have the money to own this vehicle you don't care what the mpg is".
The 570 version is hands down the absolute best vehicle I have ever owned, and I have owned several incredible vehicles over my lifetime. None of them compare to the Lexus LX 570.

This is easily the most respected product Toyota makes, even over their long serving Camry and Corolla sedans. I just want them to modernize it and the LX so more people would consider it.

This spec is about £55k new in the Uk with a 2.8 diesel (only engine option ). So not bad for what your getting. $89k is high though.

My understanding is that you cannot buy a 200 series landcruiser in the UK. Only the smaller Prado version.

The Prado is the Lexus GX460. Different engine and specifications, but basically the same vehicle and chassis. LC200 and LX570 are based on the same vehicle.

Sorry, me again. KDSS was developed for the 120 series Prado by an Australian company for their domestic market (the GX470 is the same vehicle but Lexus). Its always active and is never "disabled", its a hydraulically cross linked sway bar. It doesn't "disconnect" the sway bar, its always connected. It actually hydraulically forces the sway bar apart with cross axle articulation and forces the sway bar to stiffen with same side loading (turning) which allows for a much stiffer sway bar without affecting off-road composure or comfort. Its better than a sway bar disconnect in a number of ways.

However you point out the price point and the few obvious differences or tools that the Land Cruiser offers and some similarities with other Toyota offerings as well as the fact that you can get a G-wagon for near that same money. Here’s the thing, the Land Cruiser has intangibles that the other Toyota trucks don’t offer. Every land cruiser is built extra tough and so on many features you may often over look like the fact that is built to last 25 years before any part failures. Other than oil changes and tires and other typical routine maintenance the Land Cruiser should not fail. It also is the Toyota badge that attacks the Land Cruiser customers when bought new. It’s typically a business owner that doesn’t want to show up places looking like a show off to his or her employees. They don’t want to be seen in a Lexus or Mercedes when the average person sees them they may assume it is a 4Runner. But they get the quiet comfortable ride like a high end luxury vehicle. They typically own Mercedes and other high end vehicles but want something less in your face to drive as a daily driver. -
Only we know what is the value of land Cruiser and land Cruiser pickup in 56 degree of hot climate with 4 hour 4 wheel drive still car is fresh

4runner half the price you get half size drive shaft, cvd, lower control arm, stabilizer bar half reliability when under heavy loaded offroading, LC200 drivetrain is like a small truck!

I have a 2001 and 2015 LC. I'm looking at trading in 15 for 2020. Drove a Ranger Rover HSE while quarantined in FL and not gonna lie. It was fun and really fast. But the minute I do any comparison research its just no contest. Landcruisers dont appeal to the driver who wants to be noticed. But damn if that isn't yet another reason to love this car. Also I can fit two 15yo hockey goalies and their bags/equipment. Im sticking with Toyota.

MAJOR piece of NECESSARY information left-out of this review: it brings $90 because it's worth every penny on reliability and capability alone. That vehicle is built FAR beyond the standards of a Jeep or some similar-type off road SUV. The Escalade is $90K and worthless in 5 years (looks like the vehicle on National Lampoons Vacation - the Truckster). The FJ's LAST FOREVER and are redundant in engineering for the people that MUST GET BACK. American's play with Jeeps - they are nowhere to be found where you actually NEED a 4WD. I presently own the FJ200 & a '77 FJ40 (Land Cruiser). I've also owned the 80 and 100 series and grew-up in Papua New Guinea where they are necessary. I returned to Australia and PNG last summer to learn that a vast majority of off-road vehicles are Land Cruisers, albeit a version we don't get in the U.S. (I think it's the 79 series). Don't get me started on why I can't buy a 6 spd. manual turbo diesel in the US!!! I'm still mad at Toyota … THAT is an awesome and capable truck. If you like the Escalades, Jeeps, the (formerly esteemed) Range Rover … and perhaps the Cayenne, you'll really never absorb why the Land Cruisers are worth their sought value. ** also, failed to mention that the on-road (HWY) ride/drive of the Land Cruiser is far superior to the Tundra and/or Sequoia **

I have travelled across remote parts of africa and its the same story. Toyotas rule! Its always due to their reputation for reliability. I met people in africa who wont even touch other japanese brands like mitsubishi because they feel they are not on toyotas level when it comes to reliability. The one problem with modern diesel engines from what i hear is that they are too sensitive to bad quality diesel and can refuse to drive if filled with it. I have heard complaints from people in rural south america and parts of africa (mainly west africa) that the new diesel vehicles they tried to use wont work with local diesel (which is bad quality). Apparently newer petrol cars dont have this same issue with poor quality petrol.

That sound of "torque' vectoring" is present in my 2021 Wrangler Rubicon despite locked rear and front diff in 4 Low when I pres off road plus button. I did not hear that before in JK model.

Nice demo, and yeah that CRAWL system sounds so awkward. My RC crawler has the turn assist feature which they called it a "dig" feature. I am sure Toyota went pretty conservative on the tuning of this feature because theoretically, you could make the car rotate at its inner rear wheel at the cost of its mechanical lifespan.
1330: really a good portion of buying it is "the statement" followed by longevity and for a few owners actual off roading. i don't care about no apple play and all that crap. map function, radio, serius xm(?) good to go. also is being phased out of U.S. like in '22?
