  • In this video, we continue where we left off with our decrepit 2004 Impala, "Fred" after having died in the driveway in the dead of winter. Last time out I replaced the fuel pump, and this time we continue down the fuel system path with a replacement fuel filter and fuel pressure regulator.
Both filter and regulator were reasonably priced purchases from Amazon. This is a deal where I'm only looking to get a few years out of the FPR, as the car is getting rusty and racking up the miles.

This concludes the Fred-centric content for the moment. The next couple of videos will pertain to my 2012 Impala "Midnite."
Thanks for watching! Any questions or comments, please post below. If you found this informative or helpful in any way, give a the video a thumbs up! Be sure to check out my other videos and hit the subscribe button!

Most people use a crowsfoot wrench to loosen that large nut under the FPR. Fits much easier that that long wrench so you don't have to remove the throttle body. The hardest part is coming up with a single crowsfoot wrench of that size - I think it was 22 or 24mm... Most sets max out at 19mm.

That's a damn good tip!! Might be worth purchasing a singular crowfoot, as these FPR's tend to shit out every few years..

Thanks for the video. Going to do this plugs, wires and coil packs this weekend. This makes me much more comfortable with the process. For everyone commenting on not needing to do this or that, he plainly stated he wanted to clean the throttle body and air flow sensor as well. Rather than critique a free instructional video, go create your own and don't remove or follow the steps here. Blows my mind how people have to critique when nothing was done wrong here.

Thanks brother for thus video. I own a 2004 impala and live on a fixed income . Its a generous gift when people share this sort of information , does much more than just save someone money.
I had a go at replacing my leaking fuel pressure regulator yesterday without removing the throddle body first , thought about it sort of looked intimidating digging into , man I had come across this video. I Managed it , but sounded like some angry pirate to my neighbors in the process.
    God bless

If you're in the market for a tool set, hit up a few pawn shops. You can usually find good deals on used sets and not break the bank doing so.

I was going to change the fuel filter would it be smart to do the pressure regulator aswell?

I would say no, unless your FPR is leaking or acting erratic.

How difficult is it to replace the charcoal canister on the same car?

    • @CertifiedShadetree
      @CertifiedShadetree  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

It sits atop the fuel tank, so the tank will have to be dropped and removed from under the car in order to access the canister.

You don't need to remove all that wiring and intake hoses to replace the fuel pressure regulator. He just made way too much work for himself.

Correct, you do not need to remove any of that stuff. You will, however, spend the same amount of time getting that lower nut loose due to the tiny increments you're only able to turn your large wrench in that confined space. This way not only gives you more space, but also the benefit of being able to easily clean your throttle body.

You do not have to remove all of those parts to get to the fuel pressure regulator

Well with what limited tools I had at the time, it was easier to get at the large nut with all of that out of the way...
