    Thing that really stuck out to most about BMW’s proposition here (for both the R and XR) and why I ultimately placed an order in for a fully optioned R model, is because sure, it’s down on power and even that sort of “hooliganism” power delivery the MT-09 and Duke 790 offer, but the BMWs offer a much more versatile package that affords great touring potential and for daily commute rides without being too aggressive. I’m personally excited over these bikes because (I’m hoping) it begins a new trend where we start to see all the same high tech equipment and comfort/convenience options typically only found on manufacturers’ top end models, but now on smaller displacement bikes, though 900cc is definitely not “small”, but you know what I mean.
    I think there is definitely a market out there, including me, that doesn’t find a need for gobs of power ~120hp plus, likes the flickability and ease of low-speed urban maneuverability of a smaller frame and lighter bike weight, but not skimping out on the same high spec features. Winning combination for a motorbike intended mostly for street use and day-to-day useability if you ask me 👌

      Yep, F900R on my short list, you can get a vstream touring windshield for about $175 (they make it for the F800R)

    Great perspective! I love BMW’s. I currently have a 1250gs and love it but looking for a second smaller bike with a different feel and purpose. This may be it.

    Thanks nice review. Why some bikes got so small front fender like on this F900XR ? All the dirty, dusty, rain...will make the pipes and the engine get so much dirty.

    Get yourself a wireless lav mic and some more closeups of the machine. This machine will be coming online in our Munich fleet later this year and probably our Rome fleet in 2021. Be interested to see how it compares with the MTS950. The 900 is the new sweet spot for a lot of the sport touring world. You don't need a big engine to have a good time.

    It's one of those bikes that is a jack of all trades but master of none. It's a great tourer but missing the most super comfortable and ideally heated seat and missing the ability to adjust that front end suspension for ultimate comfort. But the standard setup is more than adequate. Without panniers it is good enough on the twisties. It is a flickable bike that's really agile although with that fuel tank so high up I did find it a bit top heavy when doing really slow speed manoeuvres. It's got more than enough power for 95% of situations and the power is delivered in a smooth and usable way. It's not a scary power delivery. It has OK wind protection, but not the best. So there's a lot of it that is good, but not the absolute best. But it makes such a good all rounder. If you can only have one bike in your garage you need to use for commuting, touring, fun days out on twisties or taking pillions this bike will do it all. And for a do it all bike that's a lot of bike for the price. Only thing I would say... You kept referring to the bike as a v twin and a parellel twin (and a parellel v twin at one point which is a new configuration to me) It's neither of those it is an in-line twin.

      He’s got it if referring to the R model, but ya, I really don’t understand the upcharge for the adventure body style as both bikes share most components and options available. Fully loaded price noted in the vid would also be amazing, but I put an order in for a fully optioned R, and it came out to be ~12,500 before taxes. Honestly though, I was more than happy to put that kind of money down because if you consider this being a middleweight bike, but spec’d out with all the electronics and features typically only found on manufacturers’ top end bikes, it’s a really great package and still, I think, great value for what you get, whether you go with the R or XR 👍

    Looking for longer term review... Still no crash bars, panniers, fog lights available. Add extras and you're well over 15k. And with only 15 litre tank, you ain't going far without refilling.... Still love it though....

    That seat! It's a real deal breaker for me. I specifically need a comfortable sports tourer. I've just had a look at BMW uk website for accessories and I couldn't see any optional seat or comfort seat there, even under the so called "comfort" package. Maybe it's different in the US, but that would seem wierd. Tracer 900 it is then, I guess.

    • @dardobartoli
      @dardobartoli 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, unsolicited I know, but you wont be disappointed with the Tracer 900GT, or at least you might, but only in the way everything built to a price disappoints. As a BMW car fan, I wanted the S1000XR but hated too many aspects of the ride and knew the new one was 6 months away. Finding my Street Triple 765 not suitable for the 1200 miles a month I cover, I took a short term gamble on the Tracer 900GT (ex demo) in November and then have ridden this F1000XR several times trying to convince myself that it's the better bike. I think I will always find it difficult to change the Tracer.
      The BMW -
      Ugly from almost all angles (but thats subjective of course)
      Small tank
      Brakes NOT as good as Tracer
      Position is not neutral or as comfortable as the Tracer
      Seat horrible and uncomfortable
      Build quality is not that much better than the Tracer
      Price is considerably more for the best specification
      Twin is not in the same league as the triple
      Wind protection is no better than Tracer.

      @@vincentcausey8498 It's a wonderful dilemma to have isn't it, and it is true that most bikes are wonderful and it comes down to brand, dealer, style, etc etc.
      I commute 3 times a week (pre virus) 70 mile round trip. I am with my local IAM group and that's 100 most Sundays. Plus any other excuse I find to ride.
      Kawasaki is my poster brand, Triumph my patriotic choice, BMW my head, Honda the sensible one, yet Yamaha is absolutely no where on my radar.
      I rode every single upright style street bike / sports tourer / adventure bike there is in October and it always came back to the Tracer 900GT.
      I really really wanted the Z1000SX (now Ninja) but cramped leg room, slight forward lean simply means a loss of comfort for me.
      Try them all and have fun when we're allowed out

    • @vincentcausey8498
      @vincentcausey8498 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dardobartoli Yes, I agree. I've considered Z900 (leg position too cramped), Ninja 1000 (too big and heavy), R1200RT (too big, engine too wide), F900XR (seat too hard, unexciting engine), Tiger 900 (engine underpowered), MT09 (tank too small, seating position too aggressive), Tracer 900 - just about ticks all the boxes.
