the problem with a 3 point line dunk is , that the distance is equal the olympic long jump qualification distance , about 7m+ not even considering that the person must still have a 3m+ vertical reach at 7m+ ... so yeah don't think that will happen anytime soon . If so.. the landing would be a real danger to the dunker

Never thought I would see this...ever. I tried this when I was younger. I was a very high jumper and very good at the long jump. I reached 22 feet in long jump and I could go up over 50" off the ground. Even all of this could not help. I almost reach it like the guys in the video but I would never be high enough to dunk it. Thank you for such a video. It brought back some good memories of my crazy basketball days.

Yeah, I don’t think a 3-point dunk will ever happen. It’s a very long way beyond a free throw dunk and almost no one can do those with their foot actually behind the line.

@@DillPicklePatrick I was born in the Caribbean so it was a bit more difficult to get out on a scholarship to play ball back then. I did get scouted but it never happened for me. I was and still am very very good at basketball. I still do play every now and then. My jump was like a natural thing for me so I never thought it was special. Because of TH-cam videos that I was watching I am seeing it was a big thing. I was always the highest jumper on the court even over taller players. Now I am watching guys reaching 40" on a dunk and it is just a little strange to me when people say that is very vertical. I mean no disrect to noone when I say this. Many people wondered for years how it was possible. I don't have much videos of me playing back then but there are some on my channel. I do coach and train some younger playing some now so I can try to pass on what I learn over the years. All the best to you as a player. Thank you for the comment.

Study indicated that humans can only defy gravity for shorter than a second. In order to dunk from the 3 point line, the dunker will need to be able to run fast enough and jump high enough to make the gap in less than a second. James White was the most impressive dunker in my opinion but the dunk from the 3 point line will probably only come from a Olympic track and field record holder willing to transfer to the dunk.

IF anyone can, they'd need to be clearly be an athletic freak. But not just any athletic freak, they'd have to be at least 6'10 with long arms. They'd also have to be an Olympic level long jump contestant. So imagine if the Greek Freak had trained in the long jump? Dave Niz I think it would out of technicalities. If you dunk from the free throw line in a game it'd be counted as 2 not one. When you shoot a 3 as long as your feet were behind the arc it'd be counted as 3. The only technicality I see that would negate that is a stipulation stating from where the ball is released from your hands. In that case it'd be 2.

I don't recall anyone throwing one down from the 3pt line but I do remember when mj and bird were playing a game of horse for a big Mac meal. They were so good they were making shots from the rafters, shots from outside the gym into the gym, and even one from a skyscraper and neither one of them MISSED.

Wilt Chamberlain could obviously dunk from the free throw line. There's no question about it. He had a vert of 45-48 inches, stood 7'1 tall, and ran a 100 yard dash in 10.9 seconds (in high school), so he was fast despite his height.

your idea of hanging on the rim until you stopped/ slow momentum would work IF you had the grip strength to do that...but you'd more likely end up slipping off and landing on your back or doing almost a back flip and breaking your neck bad idea.
derrick megown because when you jump from distance, you don't jump only vertically but also horizontally a lot. If you try to hang on the rim when jumping from distance, your hand stays on the rim but rest of your body is carried forward, your hand can slip off the rim, at worst scenarios rest of your body can stay horizontal and you can break your back, your legs can go forward by swinging effect and momentum and you can fall on your head and break neck. I twisted my elbow when I hung on the rim for a few miliseconds after one foot jump.
