One thing to add to your video as a former bmw technician do this on a warm engine to prevent stripping of the threads also it is of good practice to spray some kroil etc. in to the spark plug well .

Your video is very helpful. I plan to do mine in a month or so. One thing I have noticed is that the universal joint at the end of your extension which you showed at 0:22 was not actually used at 5:41. The service manual says: "Unscrew spark plugs with special tool 12 1 220 and extension with min. 8° bend.
Flexible ratchet extensions must always be used. If rigid mounting tools are used, there is a risk of insulator breakages." Another takeaway from the service manual is that the spark plug slot should be cleaned with compressed air. The spark plug should be torqued to 23±3 Nm. Finally, regarding the anti-seize agent, the service manual says, "Do not grease/oil thread or use any graphite or copper grease." Since anti-seize is most likely made of graphite or copper grease, it is probably best not to use any anti-seize.

Good points said and thank you for attaching the article link, I personally did not come into any contact issues not using the joint, it made it easier for me sliding the tool down into the engine. I think reading the attached article link and watching my video as reference is a good combination. Since I am after all a hobbyist at the end of the day.

If you could add a link to the products you bought it would be helpful. Thanks.

Thanks for this! The dealiship is trying to charge ~ $600 for spark plug change? Am I the only one who thinks that’s insane?

I got it from ECS Tuning, but I believe Turner Motorsport and FCP Euro carry them as well. It's a thin walled 14mm 12 Point Spark Plug Socket.

After removing caban filter housing, what did u call that long bracket, a cowel ??? Cowl???
( not lining up, can only set in place one-side of the filter housing... I don't get it... and can't see where cowl is place wrong)

    • @MrStark-xd3jg

Yeah, I call it a cowl. It sets into a lip in the back and can be a pain to put back if it's not lined up just right.
You have to give it a little push when inserting it back in. Sometimes it took me a few tries.

Do the plugs have a torque recommendation?

    • @MrStark-xd3jg

I believe so but honestly I do not have them on hand. Try searching a couple BMW forums online. You're bound to find them.

Do you have to take out the battery or it ok.

I don't believe I did, but you could disconnect it just to be safe. I wouldn't recommend removing it cause it's a total pain to try to take it out.

Nice, did you have to take off the intake manifold to get to the bolt? I've seen a few people struggle with that issue.
