completed oil change on '15 X1, it had a 17mm regular metal drain plug, which is what I had hoped would be there. No idea about the plastic variant...

Hello have you measured how much oil is drained out ?
    Nice tutorial

@@josephpuchel6497 well when I first drained it, it was around 5 liters. When I first filled I did 4.5...then checked the oil level meter in dash. Then 5. Then 5.5. then 6 and I stop at 6 and it was still not at max. So I stuck with that

The oil filter housing is size 86mm
All those universal wrenches and straps don’t work. Take it from me

helped a young man with his oil change on '15 X1, it had a regular 17mm drain plug. Never saw a plastic one before. Very strange. US spec?

Usually I put fumoto drain valves on all of my vehicles and when I looked up the drain plug for that car it was actually a metal one. I got under there and it was plastic. So I think there's a possibility that had two different drain plugs. But yes, I am in the US

thanks John, I have been using magnetic drain plugs to monitor engine health and catch any ferrous matter for years as a cheap useful mod.
A great DIY for the X1. What headlight do have on?, I just got a Nitecore nu31 and am very impressed although yours looks more compact @@DIYnot1

@@Mau105 thankful I have access to an oil analysis machine so I always send all my stuff through that
And biolite. They have a bunch of different levels but I chose the second teir down power-wise because it's lighter and has a smaller battery pack

very odd oil drain plug, seems cheap needing T10 for the plastic plug, I think they did away with this, excellent DIY

Every oil filter comes with a new drain plug so it never wears out. That's my theory at least.
      Thanks for the compliment!

Been DIY on oil changes for over 35 years and will be helping young man do this on his car very soon. That is why I have gone to You Tube just to see the process. Plastic on a part like this is a potential problem and other manufacturers most definitely do not do this. Mann oil filters do not come with the replacement plug. I hope the 2015 X1 just has the conventional 17mm bolt... Thanks for the alert, easy enough to check and prepare... That is exactly why I did the search@@DIYnot1
