Mark Tremonti sure knows his stuff! Which of his tips are you going to use in your own songwriting? After watching, be sure to like and subscribe for more artist interviews and lessons 👍
You know, it's a pleasure to see a realistic approach. Both to song writing and having Mark Tremonti's feedback on the process. Giving credit to other influential players and musicians who inspire but also provide a basis for learning / creativity.
I LOVED this! The interviewer was really cool & has that UK charm that encourages and enhances good conversation. Next time you guys do a Mark Tremonti interview let him play guitar and show us mostly cool guitar patterns and exercises and even ways to invent your own guitar tunings for the majority of the video. For me Tremonti is the best player of the 2000’s for sure. Blackbird (Alter Bridge), the 1st two Creed Albums, and all the Tremonti band albums are my favorites of his. I love his tip about finding a rhythm pattern you’re comfortable with and chords you dig and just start singing and trying ideas. That’s one of the best song writing tips I’ve ever heard. Another favorite thing of mine I learned from a guitar mag in a Steve Vai column from Vai is to just sing the notes of a song you like that you’re trying to learn and playing by ear and being in key will come way more easy and faster than not. It puts the sound in your head. I used to take lessons from an awesome jazz fusion and shred metal guitarist who could literally turn on anything monster guitarists like Joe Pass and Zakk Wylde did and play it right back right there on the spot. That was mind blowing to watch. One of that guys tips was to not only sing the notes of songs you want to learn like Steve Vai taught but to hum along with your scales, arpeggios, riffs, and patterns and get that inside your head. It really helped me a lot as a player. Tremonti is so spot on when he said there’s so many great players and cool stuff out here to learn that an individual will most likely never learn it all. The best we can do is just find stuff we really love, pair it with technology ,and just run with it man. Technology with all the DAWs, Apps, etc. makes this all way more fun than it used to be too (DAWs beat the hell out of a Tascam 4 Tea I like when I first started playing, that’s for sure). It’s literally endless possibilities as a musician constantly learning and creating and that in itself (if you REALLY think about it) is awesome!
I can’t even begin to explain how much I appreciate Mark Tremonti. His music, his kindness, the way he parents. He’s a solid dude. It’s weird to think I’ve been listening to his music for what 25 years now??? Thanks Mark!
Mark is one of the greatest guitarist for me, because there are emotions and melody in his playing and in his songs. I love the kindness and humility in his voice. He really loves music.
I liked the heavier Creed songs but didn't care for Alter Bridge. Then I bought Tremonti's first self-titled album. It is hands down the best riff CD I've ever heard, and the songs themselves are all fantastic. After buying his next few self-produced albums I went back to Alter Bridge and couldn't believe I didn't like them at first. Such a great, great player.
I've always enjoyed Alter Bridge, saw them live at the House of Blues when they were promoting "One Day Remains" they had such a small following at that stage of launching Alter Bridge, but WOW they blew the roof off that place!!! It was a small but explosive show! My personal fave album is "Blackbird", blew my mind when I gave that CD a full listen
Why do you think One Day Remains didn't grab you back then? I loved Creed and to me One Day Remains was like hearing the next Creed CD except with a new singer who was amazing and Tremonti had locked himself away for a couple years and practiced his ass off and can all of a sudden shred. Which i think is pretty much what happened.
@@triba4990 His greatest work despite what he thinks will be in Creed....they were Melodic but Heavy with the best vocalist at that time In Rock Such a waste!

Mark's guitar approach is awesome, so inspirational. I didn't really take guitar that seriously until I heard Alter Bridge and specially Tremonti. I love all these musicians that take their work serious yet Mark admits he has his days off as every human being. Great licks, great melodies and great attitude, can't wait for a masterclass
You can see Mark listening to the interviewer in the first minute or so taking it all in with a smile, almost like a realisation that he's become a guitar hero to the next generation. Like a realisation of his dream.

I knew very little of Mark Tremonti until I visited Sweetwater in 2016. The only thing that I knew about him was he was the guitar player in Creed and they had some songs I liked. When I visited Sweetwater they had his PRS model guitar and I tried it. It was the best feeling, playing and most beautiful guitar I have ever handled. I brought it home and played it daily. That neck profile is perfect. Due to two ruptured disc in my lower back the weight of it became to much after a few years and I couldn’t justify letting a instrument that great simply hang on a stand. As hard as it was to let go of I had to sell it to someone who would put it to use. That guitar was so great I decided to try his PRS MT15. That is a great amp. The best little amp I have ever heard or played. This guy has great taste in gear. Through all this I became familiar with his playing. He just keeps getting better and better. If you ever get the opportunity try out his guitar don’t hesitate. Everybody that played my Tremonti fell in love with it.They are fantastic and consistently all the same. Loved this interview!! My only thing was I wish Mark would have backed off some of the gain when demonstrating those patterns. Was hard to really get it for me.
Being a self taught guitarist of roughly 21 years, all the heavy or guitar oriented music that was popping during those periods, while also owning a subscription to Guitar World from 99' upwards to the late 2000s, Mark Tremonti was definitely someone who had a presence in that domain, whether you were a huge fan of his music or playing style, or not. Due to my younger, underdeveloped mindset and maturity, I suppose I felt him to be rather overrated, disregarding I enjoyed and knew how to play several of his songs/riffs (from Creed). I knew he primarily cut his teeth by listening and playing thrash metal in his formative years, much like myself, so I always acknowledged the commonalities in interests and goals we shared! Anyways, after watching this particular video a few things occurred to me. One being that this dude clearly doesn't age (or is aging incredibly well, however you want to look at it! lol) and still is every bit of a studly, pile of unfairly handsome pounds of flesh that he always was, and for the record, this is coming from a completely secure heterosexual male lol! And two, now looking back in context comparing his general approach towards guitar playing and writing music, and overall persona, it seems that he's done a formidable job at remaining impervious to all of the pitfalls inherent within the rockstar lifestyle, because he STILL seems to exhibit a ton of humility and respect for the instrument, the craft, and all the players on the field, old and new! He's also seemed to stay totally loyal to PRS guitars all this time (which I imagine is a quality brand that wouldn't necessarily be difficult to stay loyal to anyways lol), which is awesome! So I taking all that into consideration I can't help but admire and respect how little has changed as far as his musical interests, goals, and integrity! And as the host has mentioned, Tremonti did indeed seem to show improvement in his guitar chops, and I can actually detect far more substance in his playing than before! Lol as I fail to really give a shit for how this next remark may be conveyed, but I can honestly say that there's some things inside this mini lesson from him that I'm genuinely surprised about learning that'll surely improve my playing, so I'm definitely looking forward to jumping on this! Great to learn that he's also a fan and fellow 'student' of Uncle Ben along with other guitar instructors on TH-cam!
