    People don't give enough credit to OEM-designed airboxes. Especially Honda, who by and large, does them fairly well.

      Absolutely correct. Mine in my Si is bone stock with a K&N drop in. Just a few tweeks are needed to the stock air box and boom, you have a cold air intake.

    Really nice of you to spend the time on a non-revenue video for everyone. I've got an '07 bought as crazy turbo with Greddy Ti Catback single & Flashpro but am back to all OEM (at great expense) running one of the OEM tunes in the FP. You added a Skunk header to this '06+ with the mod and a FP tune and got great results. Most dyno tests show reduced HP/TQ with ANY bolt ons so very interesting. Q's1: You didn't change the injectors? Just airbox, header? Change to exhaust downstream of header?
    Assuming I do exactly what you did (need to know above about Skunk plus....what?) do you sell your tune?
    I have an unknown header and was considering putting the Greddy single back on either with OEM header or the generic header to save weight but 70mm is way too big for OEM "flow." Would I be able to get it in "balance" with the airbox mod and perhaps slightly bigger injectors plus tune for as much or more than you got?
    Second one. I have an '02 AP1 track-only car that is all OEM except a junk pipe and filter it came with. I'm thinking about buying the OEM airbox for it, putting on that generic header and either opening up the exhaust or using the Ti-Greddy but diff mounts than my AP2. I have an AEM V2 I removed when I bought the car, never have used/tuned with one. So again, I'm thinking I would need bigger injectors to "balance" the input/burn/output. Your thoughts?

    Haven't read any comments giving insight on the Password JDM full induction kit and where it stands with the stock airbox so I wanted to see whats your intake on it? Ive also done my own experimenting on my stock box using a scan tool to measure air temperature before and after taping the stock box and tube with reflect-a-gold tape. on a 102 degree vegas day I was 5 degrees cooler at idle and 10 degrees cooler while in motion. Ive recently put on the Password snorkel to factory box and instantly noticed my second gear was breaking traction a whole lot easier but like all good things I think my PCM wasn't having any of it and said: NONONO! and remapped it taking the fun outta my new found power. I mean I feel more power than what it was before but not as much as the first day of install... Stupid computers and their learning apparatus! lol... ill will be doing this mod to see what power I can get but I have a feeling that the damn PCM will take my fun away again hahaha!

    Interesting video. I'm currently trialing the K&N FIPK setup vs the standard airbox with a K&N filter.
    The FIPK has been on the car for the last few years, but the induction noise is excessive to other people - they find it boy-racerish when being overtaken.
    The standard airbox is a LOT quieter, but it's lost some of the Jekyll & Hyde nature of the VTEC switch at 6000 rpm.
    Power difference isn't much, though I haven't measured it - I suspect the FIPK may have a few more bhp, but it's easier to drive the standard setup quickly for longer without being obtrusive (and there's less heat soak).
    Does anyone have an idea of the relative induction noise levels of the FIPK vs the airbox mod?
    Thanks...

      by far one of the best things you can do for power is get an exhaust for the s2000. when i got my ap1 the last owner did the airbox mod but i finished it off by blocking the little port under the filter and also tried cleaning up all the little fins inside the box. i think a better thing to do for intake other than going with a coil air setup is getting a cooling plate from passwordjdm. they go for about $230 to $250 for carbon fiber or carbon kevlar and you can get it for the cutout for the ram air scoop or without the cutout.

    IMO, the carbon fiber engine bay panel and carbon fiber air intake mods are not good to vehicle. They restrict air flow intake volume. My suggestion is to make uneven place more even. It's like vehicle bottom and some manufacturers make flat bottom panel in order to increase downforce of the car.

    have you ever used any type of insulation inside the box after you have modded it, to further keep heat out?

    • @LHTPerformance
      @LHTPerformance  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hand Banana Back in 1999 when the S2000 first came out we built a carbon thermal shield to insulate the head from the box. It got ripped off a couple of years later, we made. 100 or so and it worked very well.

    A lot of people blow money on a pipe and air filter, call it cold air, and say it adds tons of power. Engineers spend millions developing engine bays, they know what they are doing.

    • @DENicholsAutoBravado
      @DENicholsAutoBravado 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Their goals are emissions, then efficiency, then power. If you want to tip the scale away from their goals to your goals, modifications can with your goals. If your goals are the same as the engineer then the job is probably done.

    • @philspaghet
      @philspaghet 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Eh that's not really how it works. ENgineers spend millions because they need to meet thousands of regulations. In that case, aftermarket companies spend lots of time tuning and testing different intake systems for one purpose and that is performance. Honda did a really good job here but that's a misleading assumption that it's the case for most cars.

Honda is not stupid with that box its all about air flow and sound.so Keep factory box with no mods or buy a really good one aftermarket. Thanks.
