I watched "the Humble Mechanic" ( TH-cam) test an aftermarket intake against the OEM Air Box for heatsoak. As with your test, the OEM Air Box faired better in minimizing heat soak and IA temps. It seems hard to nail down test results by the aftermarket intake makers.
Thank you for actual verifiable test results of the intake mod, including testing with the hood closed. Nice touch.

man i love the look of the silver dancer. Also, i cannot tell you guy enough just how much i love and appreciate these kinds of videos. good stuff. Happy Thanksgiving LHT, I'm thankful for your great content and commitment to S2000 and Hondas in general. I have a similar story, when i was working R&D at K&N, we had a guy come in from Canada to try and pitch K&N on his filter and tube designs. His filter was an enclosed tube type, it was still a cotton & screen type like the k&n's filter but it was enclosed in a tube with a velocity stack at the end. We tested it all damn day. In the end k&n passed on his pitch, but it was interesting testing it all day.

I have the K&N FIPK on mine, very doubtful it adds any extra HP whatsoever (despite the manufacturers claims), but what it does add is noise, particularly at VTEC crossover. 2nd gear VTEC sounds utterly Biblical 😁. Moral of the story: aftermarket intakes are for huge noise only with no power gains, if you want a bit of both then go airbox mod, aka OEM+ 😁. Great test 👍👍👍.

That resonance frequency really only matters inside the intake runners and partly the plenum… An intake plenum that is too small will hurt power but it doesn’t matter how big you make the plenum there’s a limit and beyond that no gain is visible… the only frequency tuning that has any affect on power is the “wave” tuning via the intake runner lengths

    This is very bittersweet information.
Imagine paying upwards from $150 (depending on what kind type/brand) in intake mods that will perform worse than a K&N filter on a stock intake setup.
I personally prefer hearing my vtec crossover with my dc sport short ram intake on my 8th gen civic si…but I’m pretty certain these results would likely be similar for my car, seeing as the stock intake box system is pretty unique.
That said, any chance would you and George fancy the idea of doing this same test with his Mugen Si for us 8th gen civic si owners? 🙏

Do you remove the air duck on the air box lid ?
or just the dividing wall in the air box and block the resonator chamber

If you ever get a chance to tune a s2000 on E85, I know a few people that would be interested in seeing the results

Do you guys recommend a square tire setup or should I stick to a staggered setup for an AP1? I currently have 255/40 rear and 225/45 in the front. I was thinking about doing 245 or 255 all around.

Is this being dynoed with the Hondata flashpro or stock ecu?

Curious if wrapping the air box with gold foil would make any difference with heat soak?

I’m not sure what gains you’d see. It has to make an improvement one long duration track use.

223-226 is a lot of power for a stock s2000 right? Don’t they typically make around 210?

A stock AP2 will do 212-218 on our dyno pretty consistently.

Nice, is that more than you typically see with ap1s or about the same?

I've tried a different setups including different box mods. No dyno results but I can say the gutted box, without resonator, snorkel and a 3.5" pipe felt the best. I may change the pipe to the silicone oem replacement...
Would be nice to compare the Mugen intake to the box (I preferred to save the money) but it might be the only intake on the market that will have gains, would be nice to see.
