This is why I’ve said that I NEVER UNDERSTOOD why a company (Microsoft) that’s NEVER necessarily been a “consumer-facing” one HAS COME TO have its own fans, cheerleaders, and zealots. The OG Xbox and the Zune are like the only two genuinely GREAT hardware products that they’ve made and they BOTH lost Microsoft A TON OF MONEY, which is why they have ZERO INTEREST in trying to continue with these endeavors.
Ultimately, they’re kinda VICTIMS OF THEIR OWN SUCCESS (hence why they’re NOT REALLY a “consumer-facing” company but an “enterprise” one that makes money off of the OTHER COMPANIES that need to pay them to operate effectively in the computing space which is ESSENTIALLY all Microsoft really WANTS TO BE: a giant “toll-collector” that gets every roadway and highway REROUTED through their tolls so that they can EFFECTIVELY collect a stipend off of EVERYONE).
The key fundamental tenets of capitalism and profiteering says that a company must experience “market growth,” somehow ENDLESSLY. Microsoft got to their level of success by EXPLODING into the household/business office with their OS and productivity software practically overnight, thereby locking down like 99% of THAT market while at their peak.
Afterwards, like a parasite or virus that has completely taken over their host’s body and now needs to find NEW AVENUES to “spread, grow, and multiply,” they turned their attention to the NEXT LOGICAL part of the household: the living room.
But by the time they decided to look that way, PlayStation had already made a firm foothold in the market and had already supplanted BOTH legacy competitors (Nintendo and Sega) as the reigning champion in THAT SPACE.
TL; DR - this whole interest in the gaming market along with every OTHER attempt by Microsoft to get into these various DIFFERENT MARKETS is analogous to the parasite that’s completely taken over and dominated a single host but now needs to find NEW ONES to spread to. Gaming was just the NEXT most logical choice, from their perspective.

I think they just HATE that they have the world’s most ubiquitous software environment installed on all these machines that are MAKING and PLAYING all these games and that they’re somehow NOT SIMPLY ENTITLED TO A PIECE OF THAT MASSIVE PIE (essentially, all these games are being run on or developed in Windows-adjacent software environments and they HATE that these games can go on to generate BILLIONS that they get ZERO CUT out of unless it uses Havok or some of the other “middleware” development utilities that they own).

Just because games like mass effect, star fox and star citizen show that you can doesn’t mean that it should be possible in Starfield. The logic that because it’s a video game doesn’t make any sense. As a developer you choose what you can and can’t do it the universe your game is in. That there’s space magic in it doesn’t excuse the player to also visit gas giants just because it’s a game.

I think you’re 100% CORRECT, but it’s ALSO IMPORTANT TO CONSIDER that part of this strategy would’ve allowed them to POTENTIALLY circumvent COPPA (Children’s Online Privacy and Protection Act) laws which has MUCH STRICTER GUIDELINES surrounding data collection and retention (and also carries with it MUCH GREATER FINES and PENALTIES, with some, I believe, going into the 6-figure range PER INSTANCE, PER DAY THAT it occurs or HAD occurred).
I never thought Microsoft communicated this much about the whole TV TV and Kinect / ads BS outside of the initial Xbox One launch conference. Kuddos to KingThrash for finding all these resources. This is priceless and hilarious!

I think Sony is going to increase their production of games in Asia: Korea, Japan, Singapore, etc. As you said it is East vs West, and I believe that even the American Sony studios will take a hit, bc of development costs against results and profits do not add up.
A big problem is the fragility of western woke employees. These people don't know how to work, they're extremely sensitive, and they try to push their personal propaganda into the games they work on.
The more games produced in the east, the better as far as I'm concerned.
The creator of the original 2 fallouts spoke about this increase of production costs. He said that a big part of it, is the bad work ethic in modern day fragile work environments, cause these people take weeks to do a mundane task that would normally take half a day.

@@user-rn5dq7yx4t I used to believe that that was a real problem, but it has nothing to do with the employees, what you call woke agendas, are actually motivated by money, the investors in the game receive tax credits if they include these companies like SBI into the development process, SBI doesn't give a damn about woke agendas, they just need to justify their presence in the studio, many employees do not like it at all, but the tax credits far exceeds what they pay SBI, this kind of practices delay the development of a game, it's all about maximizing profits using leeches like SBI. Also they need to reduce wasting resources on so much language dubbing and accessibility features and unnecessary overspending on marketing. At this point Sony all need to do is state of plays, trailers and social media for their IP and is enough to sell millions. I would try to have more studios under 100 employees, making AAAs with their own IP, not marvel or sport licenses, but IP they can fully control. And to keep a steady stream of revenue include a cosmetics store in every game.

At the launch of Xbox One Microsoft were concentrating so hard on their own TV plans. that they ignored the TV providers and manufacturers already working to surpass their goals, and in the very VERY short term. Now people have 'always online' smart TVs and Phil Spencer started begging people to buy a Samsung and not an Xbox, so long as they subscribed to GamePass on it. The bar for game quality could be much lower to appeal to casual TV owners, and the annual subscription charge could hide amongst all the other monthly app charges. Playing games could become a vanishingly rare couch-based activity compared to watching tv ahows, just as long as that subscription money kept rolling in. Ka-ching! More evidence that Microsoft was hopng to allow the Xbox to follow the Kinect into obscurity.

Google are rivals to Microsoft and would not have allowed streaming to TH-cam from XBOX with a Kinect 2.0 streamer overlay/chat. That is why they acquired MIXER. It's rumoured this is why DrDisrespect got kicked off Twitch because he was offered money to go to MIXER and then Microsoft shut down MIXER and Twitch terminated his contract with them.

I kinda of saw this coming with Microsoft. I owned an OG modded Xbox and originally I was just getting it for games but one of the homebrew apps called Xbox Media Center(it is currently called KODI) had me using it for more than that lol. It let me play any kind of video and audio format and it basically became a set top box. I probably used it more for playing movies and tv shows than I did for gaming. I definitely gamed more on the Xbox 360 but I already saw they were trying to make money with the HD content they were selling on their market place but I wasn't willing to pay for it. It didn't surprise me at all when they started trying to sell the Xbox One console as an all in one because it was quite capable of doing that with the OG Xbox but they really did mess up royally with the roll out. That one lady really hit it on the head. Why would I spend $400 dollars for an all in one device if I wasn't planning to game on it? They should have just created a media device like what Apple did with the Apple TV and focused on Xbox being a gaming device with other features.

That was around the time people were moving to Netflix in droves and the tv "landscape" was changing, typical M$ jumping in trying to corner a market. I can remember telling a friend my One X was just an expensive Netflix box and he told me to buy a ps4 lol. The really sad part is the Xbox One still got better exclusives more often than Series. Series hasn't had anything worth a damn this whole gen.
