2021 BMW M3 Competition (G80) vs. Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio | PistonHeads

  • Here it is, then: the 2021 BMW M3 Competition. With 510hp from its 3.0-litre twin-turbo straight six, it's the most powerful M3 ever made. But those after four doors, four seats, more than 500hp and an auto 'box are already well served by the latest Alfa Giulia Quadrifoglio. Can the rear-drive M3 really be better than the best sports saloon out there? Dan went to Wales to find out...

    Just purchased a 2023 Giulia QF after considering the M3 and its cohorts. The M3 was everything you said it was; fast, purposeful, a clearly superior interior, and hard edged. But still.... I could not bring myself to say no to the Alfa. Having said that, one of my best friends has a new M3, and I'm sure he's equally happy with his decision. This is one of those rare instances when there is no bad choice to be made.

    I always look forward Dan Prosser’s brutal honesty and objectivity in his car reviews. He’s at the top of his game and his delivery style is top notch. The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio is a riot to pilot and it feels uniquely in a class of its own that all of a sudden, the other cars don’t really matter any more.

  • @edovol3
    @edovol3 3 ปีที่แล้ว +68

    Very good review; I completely agree on the comments you made on the sense of fluidity and sharpness the Giulia can deliver. I'm a car enthusiast and I'm not into big screens and fancy Infotainment systems, especially when talking about sports cars. What matters to me is character, personality, the connection you can develop with the car and the fun you have when you drive it. From this point of view the Alfa is amazing: I own/owned other high performance cars (mostly BMW Ms and Porsches) but my Giulia Quadrifoglio has a very special place in my heart.

    Great Video as the owner of an Alfa Romeo Giulia QV for almost 3 years there is simply nothing that compares. My car is slightly modified and its night and day over a stock QV. My car is fitted with the full carbon fiber Sparco bucket race seats which really makes the interior much more inviting.

The grip levels are immense , for such a powerful rwd car, and the engine really is special, it surges you forward so smoothly, and pulls hard to the limiter. Proper turbo motor and sounds raw and musical at the same time. It seems to pull harder in the higher gears, like it’s got different boost maps in different gears..think the 488 has a similar set up. I made my choice 2 years ago and have never regretted a second. The poor interior quality might be partially to do with keeping the weight down, but I'm not massively bothered tbh. I just adore the way it drives. Now, even compared to the new M3, it is lighter, just as powerful, rides better, steers better and is cheaper. No contest. Buy an Alfa QV.
