    Without weight balanced out at front, average speed is 6-7mph
    With weight balanced out, average speed is 11mph+
    BALANCE IS EVERYTHING.

    Good video! I keep a small deep cycle battery and a little Minn Kota 30 motor (for trolling or emergency use) laying on a floatation cushion in the front of mine to balance out.

    What external fuel tank kit did you buy for the motor?

  • @daggitydave
    @daggitydave ปีที่แล้ว

    How are your launch wheels installed? Are the bolts accessible from the inside? I have a G3 1236 with the similar floatation behind the rear seat and I’m worried I’ll have to install them so narrow that they’ll interfere with the motor.

    Thank you for sharing this video. I am curious about owning a 5 h.p. outboard with a 12 foot jon boat.

    • @r2bboats
      @r2bboats  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think a 5hp outboard on a 12’ Jon boat is a great setup for smaller lakes and rivers. It won’t get ya up on plane but it’ll move you around plenty quick and they are light.

      It will definitely get the job done he was getting 11 mph in a 10ft boat that is zippin lol too much more and it's just plain scary lmao

    Hey, nice video. I have the same exact motor. How much did you pay for yours?

    • @r2bboats
      @r2bboats  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey thanks. I bought it for $475 and spent another $75-$100 replacing the internal fuel tank, fuel cap, impeller and fluids. The tank and cap were cracked while being transported.

    • @standbackstandby200
      @standbackstandby200 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your immediate response. I paid 450 for mine. How difficult is it to change the impeller? I can’t find a video anywhere😢

      @@standbackstandby200 fairly easy. You remove the two screws on the lower leg assembly (about where the water inlet on the leg is situated), the leg comes apart and you see the impeller on the driveshaft.

    How does it even move without those wheels on the back turning?

    • @r2bboats
      @r2bboats  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m sorry, I don’t know if I understand your question. But the wheels allow the boat to be pulled around on land by hand. When you launch the boat, you flip the wheels up and out of the water. Hope that helps.

    Very strange I have that same boat with a Colman 2.5 my top speed was 8.7 mph don’t gain much with 2.5 more horse power

    • @r2bboats
      @r2bboats  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yah so if the weight in the boat isn’t balanced out the 5hp doesn’t have enough power to get it on plane. When balanced it’ll get on plane and do 11mph or more. But I’ve also noticed that the little 2.5hp push the boats surprisingly quick for what I initially expected of them.

    Dollars to donuts a old lawnmower engine and a long tail kit would be cheaper and faster.

    • @r2bboats
      @r2bboats  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yah that’s something I actually haven’t tried yet. I know those long tail motors get up and go tho. And it would be a fun project. At some point I think I’m gonna try that out.
