T-Mobile Home Internet Sucks!

  • This is something I pretty much have to deal with on a nightly basis due to severe slowdown from deprioritization from other users on T-Mobile's network on my local tower. Hardly a 5G experience.

    Yes T-Mobile really isn't transparent about deprioritization. Those speeds are very accurate on what it's like to be deprioritized. T-Mobile will not fix this. Calling them will not get faster speeds. T-Mobile does not tell you that their home internet is the absolute lowest network priority at all times. T-Mobile home internet is QCI 9. Do not allow the reps to convince you otherwise.

      I have noticed using a VPN slows it down a lot, although I don't use them often enough to know if it slowed my DSL internet down to the same extent that it does with T-Mobile. Also it seems like everyone in Southwestern PA has issues so the infrastructure in this area must be garbage even though I thought Pittsburgh was supposed to be a big 5G city and you'd think by now it would spread to surrounding areas.

    It’s because they use the same cells for the home Internet that they do with the phones. It’s just lower priority. Verizon has different cells for the home Internet and different cells for the cellphones, thus not congesting network and causing all these issues. USE VERIZON HOME INTERNET!!

      The main reason I've stuck with it is at least it's good for uploads. I can upload a video in 15-30 minutes compared to like 12 hours on DSL. But the nightly slow downs are annoying and seem to only be getting worse. I just wonder how long they can keep letting this slide until enough people complain or drop the service that they'll actually get to doing those promised "tower upgrades."

    I have a comment, did they fix your problem? Are you getting better speeds now?

    • @Mr.Everything
      @Mr.Everything  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't find that speeds are any better, maybe even a bit lower than the peak speeds I got over a year ago, but it seems like the deprioritization is less aggressive. I'm not sure if it's done on their end with the towers or was a firmware update pushed to the gateway that seems to have changed things. At night when I'm still being noticibly deprioritized, I can still stream something in HD, or usually still game, or browse the web without much loading time, but I usually can only do one at a time. I can stream but if I try to download a game or update an app then the update takes forever and the stream starts buffering. But it's better than it was before when any time I was being deprioritized, everything came to a crawl and I couldn't do any one thing efficiently. Now I can at least pick one thing and usually do it without noticing the slow down, but can't do multiple data-heavy things at once until the congestion eases up. But even in the early afternoon or in the middle of the night I still find my peak speeds to be a bit less than what they used to be but they're still best during those hours. I'm not sure if it's do to more traffic 24/7 due to more total users all together or just a trade off that everyone is getting a slightly slower speed in exchange for better consistency. So again I'm not sure exactly what's been tweaked, if it's just for my area, if the towers have been upgraded, or if it's something they're doing with all Home Internet users with how they are deprioritized but it does seem better than it was a year ago. It's still not ideal but not miserable every night like it used to be. I still see a lot of other people having issues though so it's still something you just have to test in your location before you really know if it's worth having as your sole ISP.
