OMG I bought the router in your video and set it up as you instructed. I went from 60 mbps dl to average of 360mbps dl speeds. Consistent for the last 36 hours. Thank you!!!
Incredible, straightforward video. I've had my TMobile internet device for 5 days now; total POS, couldn't find all my devices, buffering, etc. No help from TMobile's customer service whatsoever. I even asked them if a router would help speed up things. "No probably not". " Even their speedtests showed 17 down and 35 up! Thank goodness I found your video. I'm headed out to purchase a router - and, thanks to your excellent explanations, I'll know how to proceed with router's settings. You rock.
Absolute perfection! Clearly you spent time putting this video together. You wanted us to get it and we did. The picture box was a great visual addition and stimulated focus, the scope and sequenced demonstration gave order and plain English made for easy understanding. There was no need for frustrating and tiring rewinds. Amazing Jack. Thumbs up, subscribed, commented; I'm in. Thank you.
just signed up for T Mobile Home Internet. A lucky shot I would say. Got it connected and started monitoring speed, the results: some good ones and some very bad ones. But the bad ones over passed the good ones (speeds around 1 or 2 Mbps). After calling CS three times I realized that they had no answer to such erratic behavior. They sound nice over the phone, interested in resolving the issue, but not solid recommendation beyond "did you try different spots in the house?" A ticket was created but... no answer given... To what I completely found unacceptable and decided to return the equipment. Btw, I have seen a lot of videos here and I find interesting the fact of several of them addressing issues like : add an antenna, a router, change this and that, go to a website and do... etc. Who is to do that? I find those videos irrelevant for what they implied. The customer simply wants a product that works closed enough to what it is advertised... simple...
One more important thing about properly configuring your own router with this gateway, make sure you enable IPV6 and put it in PASSTHROUGH MODE. I could not get Netflix or some other streaming services to work through my router but after making this change everything works perfect now.
I wonder if they've changed this page? When I connect to the IP listed on the gateway I am defaulted to /home. It's an unsecure connection, and I was not prompted to logon. I see a simple screen showing what is in the android app - mainly just connection speed and firmware versions. There are no options for anything else. (on the left side are icons for Home and Support - with support simply listing a link to a FAQ and support phone numbers.
They must have decided to disable a normal router admin login. I tried to get in this afternoon with no luck. Guess we are stuck using a PowerShell script to disable Wi-Fi.
I was having the same issue.. I was getting frustrated thinking I was doing something wrong but looks like T-Mobile caught on and disabled that feature.
I got the TMobile tower you showed in the video about 6 months ago for my house, had about 3 out of 5 bars and 7 devices hooked up to it. My Xbox series x says strict NAT and upnp not successful. Haven't had anything like this happen in the 6 months I've had the home internet, so I got another tower, this time being the arcadyan one that is only directed towards gaming and whatnot. hooked everything up, tower says very good connection and I'm hit once again with that strict NAT and upnp not successful. But I also guess TMobile home internet doesn't support upnp because of the way the ip address setup is. Would getting a router fix this issue, or would I be better off returning the tower? Thank you for taking the time to read my comment
I have heard from a few different viewers about something similar to this happening to them. I was able to get my Xbox to open NAT using the router settings and putting my XBOX IP into the DMZ. There is some risk with this since that removes the device from being behind any firewalls, but game systems encryption security is usually way better. Hooking up a router to my Tmobile internet has been the best move I have made with it.
Having the same exact same issue. Word by word even the 6 months thing started giving me strict nat type out of no where. Constantly disconnecting from parties and games now.
This is because only the WiFi is being disabled on the 5G gateway, not its router. This means that your new home network is double-NAT'd or going through 2 routers - first the 5G router and then your new router. While giving you your own router and its features, you are paying the price of going through 2 gateways or NAT devices. It would be nice if the 5G gateway allowed bypassing the built-in router.
So now after almost 2 months, I can play online again, but it says upnp isn't successful in the settings with a moderate NAT. I don't know if this is still an issue with the TMobile towers, since I have a router wired to mine. All I did was buy a Netgear router, specifically wifi 6 enabled, logged into it on my computer and changed the Upnp and NAT forwarding settings, then hard wired from the router to my console. Hopefully you guys seeing this find this useful🫡
Can't wait to try this out. I just got T-Mobile Internet yesterday, I like it better than what I had but my constant fluctuating speeds when downloading games on my PS5 and Series X we're bugging me lol.
If you got the new 5g router good luck. I've got it and it's a pain in the ass. It doesn't allow you to turn off the signal output and it's stuck in nat 3. Went and bought a nighthawk to try to use and my speeds are now a 10th of what they are just using the 5g modem. Overall not very happy. Called tmobile and the tech pretty much told me I need to buy vpn and download firmware to my router to get around the double nat. Sad part is I also have a 100gb mobile Hotspot and it's always been nat type 2 so why the issues
@@MykeHunts yeah same here, got a Nighthawk as well with the same results. I cancelled, returned the gateway and ended up with Cox Gigablast and couldn't be happier at the moment.
Thanks for this video. As for changing the MTU size, some people recommend that you add 28 to the optimum file size that's been determined to have 0% loss. In my case it's 1458 and I added 28 to arrive at MTU of 1480. But I don't see a big difference from the standard 1500 size in terms of internet speed is concerned. Have you noticed any significant internet speed improvement by downsizing the MTU to 1420? And is the 1420 after it's been added by 28 or do we need to add to it so it'll be 1448? Bit confusing by any thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thanks again. Btw, I'm using an Arcadyan gateway and the current firmware doesn't have any level of settings your Nokia has. It's completely stripped down, such that it needs to be hacked to turn off the WiFi.
The MTU changes are minimal and I did add the 28 as that accounts for audio in the latency. The changes to my speeds were there though, so in order to optimize my speeds I did keep the MTU adjusted to 1420. I have seen that the Arcadyan does not work the same...I really hope TMobile gets the gateways dialed in with more features and settings.
If you use a VPN, the VPN will add to the headers and push you over the limit of the gateway's max MTU... subsequently, endpoints while connected to the VPN will appear to slow down and/or become unresponsive as the packets are fragmented... So, lowering the max MTU avoids this fragmentation while connected to the VPN. You cannot change the max MTU on the T-Mobile gateway, but you can change them on your local router as JackNthebox did. So, for people working from home, if T-Mobile hasn't raised their max MTU, then you will have to lower the max MTU on your router, or individual network devices. Obviously, easier to set it on your router. Don't hate me if I used some incorrect terminology. I hope that I was clear enough to explain why.
Followed everything, working, however ethernet off the router im only hitting around 1/5th the speed if I plug directly into the gateway. Anything you would consider setting wise for why this is throttled
@@JackNtheXbox Thanks for your response - NETGEAR Nighthawk R6700, QoS off btw the antennas inside the gateway, I haven't opened up the cylinder - are they better positioned a certain orientation? I have clear LOS on the tower with 5G presently and was hoping adjusting its azimuth might help pick up the signal better
@@majulenparah I don't know if you figured this out or not or just gave up, but when I configured my Nighthawk with the MTU set to 1420, my speeds went way, way down too. I also had issues with consistent internet connections. I returned the MTU setting to 1500 and everything worked much smoother.

My favorite brands - TP Link and Netgear Nighthawk. If you are broadcasting in anything under 2000 sq ft, AC routers work, but recommend anything that has AX Infront of the numbers. AX routers can broadcast in 3000 sq feet. They also have better speeds. The router I use is the TP Link AX55. Hope that helps. Let me know if have other questions. Thanks for watching!
I have a question. I want to work remotely. They require a HARD WIRE connection.. (broadband) YET T mobile has pretty reliable speeds. Is attaching a ROUTER to the "can" something that can mimic or protect reliability /security for many remote jobs? Also, with a router, does your wifi password remain the same? Or do you change it with the router?.. (are the bands still split? )
You have options. Yes, the router does create a wired security network. You will just want to verify with your work that they are cool with it... This is not a "mobile hotspot" so they should be good with it. You can clone your current network password so nothing will change and you will not have to go through and reconnect all of your devices. This is done by simply making your WiFi name the same as your current WiFi and making the password the same. Last, you 2.4 and 5 Ghz can be combined or split...up to you. I split mine.
I have a question, do you think that the tmobile internet with speeds of 180 to 200 download speeds and 52 upload speeds is enough for a family of 5 people in a home? and I forgot to mention that I am using my tmobile Home internet in a place where according to them it is not available but there is 5g service
I have a family of 8...so yes 👍😀. While I am streaming my kids can be watching my stream on our internet, while my wife is on Prime Video and phones are all being used...that being said...I would recommend a router if you are going to have that many devices rocking at once...my gateway would overheat trying to handle that without a router.
@@JackNtheXbox ok I have the router tp link ax3000 wifi 6 I saw some of your videos where some adjustments are made to have a better pin tomorrow I will see your video again and try the same thing you do and I will come here to tell you my results, the band where My router is connected to the n71 but tmobile says that it is not available at that address so I activate it with another address and it works for me
Will adding a router help with port forwarding? I would like to use the PSplay app to play games outside the house and the app requires port forwarding.
In the configuration shown in this video, both the T-Mobile gateway and the TP-Link router are using DHCP, causing a double-NAT issue. Double-NAT should not cause problems for Web browsing, checking email, and streaming video, but it could cause problems with setting up a server, gaming, some security cameras, and any service where ports need to be forwarded.
Great video! I’m a pretty heavy gamer so using the gateway was horrendous with bufferbloat and ping. Sadly I set my archer a7 and I still get pretty bad spikes. I’m trying to figure out where I went wrong. On the tp-link website I don’t get access to changing the NAT type, so I was wondering if that had anything to do with it? The settings only have IPv4, Advanced (which allows MTU change), and MAC Clone. No NAT. Everything else should be pretty straight forward but it’s still having some troubles. I’m also using the updated Tmobile gateway model, so maybe that had something to do with it? Thank you!
Have you been able to shut the broadcast from your Arcadyan Gateway? If not, Nater Tater has a video that can help. I will look into the A7 NAT settings and get back to you. Thanks for watching my vid!

I have the old NOKIA gateway and was following along but when I disable I think 5g ssid 8 it kicked me off and I had no online access anymore. Does this need to be done connected directly to the LAN?
I have the Arcadian gateway and bought the deco mesh system. I'm having trouble with my windows laptops. None of them are able to connect to the deco network. I keep getting a 'cant connect to this network' error. Any ideas? I searched the internet for answers, but no luck.
Question, so does the T-Mobile modem lose Wi-Fi function when setting up the router as a Wi-Fi extender? Because I’m trying to have both put out Wi-Fi I’m having an issue with my router says no connection first time setup
I have a Sagemcom router and I have tried to connect my Archer A8 so that my Eufy doorbell and Waze cams will work, but I'm not sure how to do that. I cannot get to the settings that you show as TMobile only has the phone app for that now, and nothing that you show is available as an option when I go to my 'admin' page. I am not a techie type for sure and maybe the question is a simple one, but do you have any suggestions? When I plugged in my router, my speeds tanked and it all still did not work and it slowed down my TV streaming as well. Should I just change the settings in my TPLink and would that work? Thank you.
The sagecom has a different set up to turn off the WiFi broadcast. You have to turn off the WiFi or the speeds will tank every time. I have not been able to get my hands on a sagecom yet, but I think Nater Tater did on his channel.
Hi Jack, Im not as tech savvy as most of your viewers, but I recently got the Tmobile Arkadia gateway. I split the bands to be separate 2.4 and 5 GHZ but the 5GHZ will not show up on the network lists on any smart tvs in my home, only the 2.4GHZ. I have no clue why. Tmobile has no answers. Can you please help?
A few questions so I can troubleshoot: How far are the TV'S from the gateway? Is the 5GHZ showing up on other devices? Did you do a system reboot after splitting them?
@JackNtheXbox Firstly, thank you so much fo responding😊 The gateway is sitting underneath one of the tv's and is about 5 feet on the other side of the wall from the other. Yep the 5G shows up on cell phones. I did a system reboot on the tvs. For the Gateway I just unplugged it multiple times, let it sit for about 29 secs and turned it back on
@@JackNtheXbox I went to a few sites that mentioned changing the internet channel for other brands of modem/routers and it helped them but Tmobile says it cant be done with the Arkadian.

Just picked up my gateway. My current setup uses 3 routers. 1 plugged into the cable modem and 2nd & 3rd routers are plugged into 1st via Cat6. One router is downstairs, 2nd is upstairs & 3rd is an outdoor router to cover the yard. My question is will this work: 1 & 2 into gateway & #3 into #1? Also, 2 & 3 are set up as AP's
Great question! I will need to get my hands on one to find out. You may be able to change the base IP broadcast to have two separate networks. I will need to look though.
@@JackNtheXbox I'm sorry, I actually have the Arcadayn Gateway, but the problem is still the same. Natar has a hack that works to turn off the wireless. Do I then reboot and the gateway and set up the router as you indicate? Seems like I have to have the internet to set up the router. Thanks a bunch!
The router has to be plugged into the gateway. All you are turning off with Nater's hack is the broadcast. Use a CAT(5or6) cable to connect the router to the gateway, then you can set up the router. Hope that helps.
Thanks for the great video! T-Mobile sent me the black square looking 5G Gateway model, and I went to the T-Mobile set up page, and I don't see anywhere to click on to disable the wi-fi settings so I can set it up with my Asus Blue Cave Router. Has anyone else had a similar issue?
@@JackNtheXbox Thanks very much for that link! I finally got the Blue Cave Router set up to work with the T-Mobile Gateway. I'm seeing pretty good speeds of 200-250 mbps average download and at times this morning I even reached into the 350 mbps range, which is what Spectrum is currently giving me. My average upload speeds have been between 25-50mbps which totally beats the 10mbps Spectrum upload speed. I have had the T-Mobile unit for a couple days now, and am going to continue to compare it to Spectrum for the next two weeks and make my decision. As of right now, I am getting CONSISTENT Spectrum speeds of 350mbps, and the regular monthly price is $75, but with the current Stimulus Credit bringing my bill down to $49.74, the prices are about even. All things being equal, I would probably switch to T-Mobile because I know the Spectrum discount will expire at some point. Other than the tricky set up with my router, I so far do like the T-Mobile internet. I have over 12 devices hooked up including my kid's computers and iPads, along with two Apple TV's etc, and everything is running fine so far. I have noticed no slowdowns or buffering issues. Thanks again for your awesome videos! You have a new subscriber in me! Keep up the great work! Wishing you and your subscribers all the best! 🙌🏾🙏🏾
Great video. After reading through all the comments I'm still confused about adding a router. I have the Arcadyan KVD21 gateway. I have 5 bars of extended 5G which works well in my house, but my Ring security cams need more reception. I get on average 225 down and 80 up. I will probably have 10 or less connected items. Will I have conflicts with the gateway broadcasting and also the router without any custom settings? If so what solution do I need ? Thank You.
Herald, your situation describes one of the reasons I hooked up a router. Most routers have a stronger signal that reaches farther. The Arcadyan was an improvement over the Nokia Gateway, but they still don't seem to broadcast as far. With my router, I get signal on my entire property.
I type the IP address on the bottom of my gateway and but the page you are showing does not come up only a picture of what the mobile T-Mobile app looks like what should I do?
Bruce and joseph, the new gateways have different settings. I am working on a video right now that shows a way to bypass the settings and turn off the broadcast of the Wi-Fi from the gateway. I'm hoping to have it out before the end of the week.
thanks for the video! i have the T-Mobile 5G Home Internet and it works great in the house, ....but not so good in my detached garage? is there a extender i can buy to get wifi in my garage?
Question do you have to go into your settings and turn off and change all of them to make the router work or can I just plug it in and have it working fine
Awesome. I have a tplink already set up with my optimum Arris modem. Since the router is already set up can I just do the necessary setting as you described on the Gateway and just connect it to the router and be good to go passwords, bands and all? Or will I have to go back into the router and set it up also to work with the gateway? I hope your answer is like a plug and play. I am not that savoy. I work from home and use VPN. I don't want to disconnect from optimum and have issues.. help
This should be a plug and play situation. Since your settings are through your Modem and not the gateway, all you are changing is your WiFi broadcast point.
@@JackNtheXbox ooooo. I didnt think to just plug the gatway into the modem. If I am understanding. First disconnecting the cable line from the modem which I own that is connected by ethernet to my tplink all I have to do is connect the gateway to the modem and all is well. I don't have to change any setting, turn off something or match passwords on the gateway to the tplink? I am excited.
I guess I'm doing something wrong. I can't seem to get to the web page where I can change the settings. I put the ip address In the web line. and it doesn't look anything like the page you've shown in the video.
Great video! I have the same gateway-router setup as you but now I need to add a network switch. I just finished my new home and added more hard wired drops all throughout the house, especially in the theater room. My router only has four LAN connections and I need 12, hence the switch. How would I do that exactly? Thanks!
If you are using an unmanaged switch, then there are no settings to configure. Connect one end of an Ethernet cable to one of the four LAN ports on your router. Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable to one of the Ethernet ports on the network switch. Next, connect your hard wired drops to the other Ethernet ports of the network switch. Once everything is powered up, you should be good to go.
Thanks for the video. I may end up needing it, but I have a question. We have a Netgear Nighthawk gaming router. We really don't play a lot of games but we have a lot of devices using the WiFi. The router has WiFi. The T-Mobile gateway has WiFi. Is there a way to connect the gateway to the router using the WiFi instead of a wired ethernet cable connection? The best place in the house for the T-Mobile gateway is upstairs on top of my husband's dresser. There is no direct way to connect the router to the gateway AND connect to his computer downstairs (where the router is now) using ethernet. He still uses a tower and doesn't have a WiFi adapter. I know we can get one but then all the devices will be connected using WiFi in the house (right now, he's using ethernet and I usually use ethernet just to try and not bog down the WiFi channels). I'm worried that putting everything on the WiFi will be too much.
I am not getting to the page that is at 1:44 on your video so that I can do everything you are showing in your video. What am I doing wrong? My unit is not circular like your unit. It is a newer model I believe and I am hoping I can figure this out. Thanks.
@@JackNtheXbox Thank you, Jack. I've installed it but the thing keeps shutting down. They are sending me a new unit but hoping to be able to adjust as you did. Thanks again
I totally understand wanting advanced features but what of the multiple NAT issue. T-Mobile's CGNAT is already a double layer NAT system and adding another layer is not ideal. I have a complete Omada setup in my basement and I would love to use the advanced features of it but as of now I only have the gateway connected to a switch.
By using some of the NAT features and settings on my router, I am able to avoid DOUBLE NAT (sometimes it jumps to moderate) but it does not negatively affect the NAT.
Jack, I have the Arcadyan KVD21 2 months ago, Do you recommend external router? what's the model of TP-Link? Do i leave the SSID 2.4g/5g combo (recommended) or change to separate mode? I have watch so many you tube video. This a cool video step by step and very clear audio. Thx-Wilson
Wilson, thank you for watching. I enjoy making the videos. Even with the Arcadyan, I would recommend a router. Routers just have a ton more features to run a lot more devices and not bog down your bandwidth. Me personally, I separate the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz because I like to be in control of what devices are using bandwidth, especially on my 5Ghz. This makes a huge difference for me with gaming and streaming since I need to make sure my system if at optimal speeds and smart devices are not slowing things down. My router is a TP-Link Ax3000. With an Ax router you get Wifi6, and that extends your 5Ghz bandwidth. Hope this helps.
@@wilsonlim898 I tested the Dynalink, and I got horrible test speeds. I learned after I returned it, it was the QoS setting that was slowing me down. I have heard from a lot of people it is great, I just did not have luck the first time I tested it.

Thanks this is great! But it seems like T-Mobile has changed their website and you can no longer toggle the settings like you suggested. Any ideas on how to change it now?
I figured as soon as I disabled wi-fi in the NOK 5G21 gateway that I wouldn't be able to continue with the setup because I'd lose wireless connection to the GW. So I plugged a CAT5 from the GW into my laptop and turned off wi-fi on the laptop. Now I can no longer ping the gateway IP address, I can't log into the admin page, but I CAN get to web pages. Network Settings on the computer show an IPv4 address different from the default GW address, but I can't ping that either. Any idea what's going on there? Is this some problem with the LAN connection in the GW trying to use IPv6 and my laptop (Win 8.1) only supports IPv4?
Do you have your router plugged into your gateway? The gateway handles both IPv4 and IPv6, but it might depend on which router to are trying to set up.
@@JackNtheXbox I haven't set up the router yet. I understand that it needs a different subnet? If so, how would I connect with the Gateway to access the admin page? Wouldn't it be outside my router's LAN? And why can't I just connect directly to the GW and get to the admin page? Surely you don't HAVE to have a router to do that?
You can access both admin pages via the Gateway's IP and the router's IP. You technically don't need a router, I just like all of the features a separate router offers. Does this answer your question?
@@JackNtheXbox That answers my question about accessing the GW admin page once a router is connected to it. I can't even ping the GW IP address, yet strangely I CAN open any other web page in my browser... just not the GW admin web page. ??

After you do all that do you go back on the tmobile account and emable the brodcasting again? are you then connecting to the router wifi and no longer the tmobile wifi when you look at wifi connections?
So am I out of luck in terms of AP mode? I have the Arcadyan KVD21 gateway after having to return the previous gateway (trash can) due to firmware issues and I'm realizing that I can no longer shut off the WiFi on the gateway or at least when I go into AP mode on my Netgear MR60 Mesh router, my T-Mobile SSID is still broadcasting and can still be connected to with no issues. Might as well keep AP mode off? Thanks
Sorry, thought I replied to this! Mesh systems are great for a large area that needs coverage. The only thing they do not work GREAT with is online gaming because latency and ping tend to be high just meaning you will experience games lagging and getting choppy. NEST is awesome!
So my wifi extender has to be hooked up to the unit. I have a guest house and had an extender (netgear ex7000) hooked up in there. Is that still possible without having to need a wired connection?

@@jeffsmusicpage Jeff, just to verify, is your router pugged into your gateway? If it is, and you are still not seeing anything, then factory reset, start over, and set up your router before turning off your wifi on your gateway. That will work too.
Great video man, I have an archer ax3000 router with the tmobile gateway and I can't seem to get the router in router mode while having upnp and other settings selected per your video without getting the double nat on xbox, if I turn the router to access point, the nat goes strict :( so frustrating
So I’m having a problem with double NAT when connecting my ASUS Router to the T-Mobile. Also not sure if it’s the double nat but I keep getting Randomly disconnected from the Internet not sure if both routers are fighting over who’s IP address to use
If you have the router and gateway broadcasting at the same time and you are using WiFi, that will cause disconnection issues. As for double NAT, sometimes the best you can do is get it down to moderate...there are other far more complex ways to get rid of it entirely, but I don't have the equipment yet. If you have strict NAT, you can eliminate that but broadcast through one, or hardwiring direct to your gateway in the second WAN port.
@@JackNtheXbox by the way I did turn off all Wi-Fi on the T-Mobile router and I did do a LAN connection to the ASUS Router but it seems like the ASUS Router is getting disconnected from the Internet as before when I was connected directly to the T-Mobile router I was getting a NAT type of open but the ping is terrible. Don’t have an issue with speed I get anywhere from 250 to 300 range I just want that low ping lol
@@JackNtheXbox so I’ve been tinkering around with the T-Mobile today trying to sign a IP address to the secondary router the ASUS Router and you definitely cannot do that with the T-Mobile router. I don’t think there’s any way around this even if I make the ASUS Router the access point
I’m having a problem with T-Mobile 5g home internet that has not been resolved despite many calls in to the help line. I’ve had T-Mobile 5g home internet for almost a month now, and the short version is that every so often the gateway drops the network. When I say “drop the network,” I mean to say it throws everything off of the Wifi that it’s broadcasting, and anything plugged in via ethernet says “no network found. (To elaborate this point, cell phones switch to cellular data because wifi is gone for them, and computers hardwired into the gateway think that they are no longer plugged into anything.) Turning off the gateway and turning it back on resolves the issue, but doesn’t prevent it from happening again. Whatever is happening doesn’t seem to affect our connection speed/strength when the gateway IS providing signal to devices in the home, but due to the nature of our work, we need a connection that won’t just disconnect randomly
Which gateway do you have? This sounds like an update issue or an overheating issue. Both can be dealt with. Adding a router can help, but not first you need to see if your firmware needs to be reset.
Great video, thanks so much for posting and making it so clear. One thing you didn't touch on was the security settings for the new router. I have a TP Link Deco M9 Plus that does not allow me to change from WPA (according to the app interface), and my network appears on my laptop as having "Weak Security". Do you have recommendations?
Hey Martin. I will be putting together several new videos this week and next...I will try to make security settings one of them. Stay tuned, and thank you for watching!
How do you go into the website to change the network settings? Every time I sign in it doesn’t go to the same area you are on. Maybe I’m doing something wrong, please help😭
Are you using IPv4 or IPv6? And did you check the box to open NAT under the "Internet" in your settings? Last thing, have you checked to see if there is a firmware update?
So does this solve the NAT type issue with TMobile internet? I've been looking for a gaming router that can help since i game on a nintendo switch(it shows nat d so im unable to connect to any multi-player online) and I even went to best buy today to ask them questions about it but they said a gaming router won't help but an hour later I stumble upon your video and I am amazed! I find this really helpful!
Pretty helpful, but I have a Netgear router. And I still need to use the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz in another building nearby. Can I turn those back on once the Netgear router is connected? Can you add a video that shows how to set up a Netgear router and what settings to set it to. I work from home and watch videos but no gaming here.
You can have both broadcast if they are out of range of each other. The reason you turn one off in the same space is because you will have drop issues and broadcast conflicts. You may also have heating issues with your gateway if you turn the Wifi back on. It is doable, but I would keep my eyes open for those issues.
Your video was super helpful really appreciate it, but had a question was hoping you could help. I've got the exact same setup as you (tmhi and same router). Followed steps to set up. I can play games but sometimes get hiccups and wondering if I'm missing something. When I turn on my Xbox I get double nat detected, if I test connection it goes to open nat. Feel like I need to change another setting or something. Any tips? Also, my switch has nat b but works online. Both xbox and nintendo are wired into router.
Is planning to get Wireless Internet through T-Mobile but it only has 2 ethernet ports. I need more ports and was wondering if I can use my current router ethernet ports. I am trying to figure out which Wi-Fi to turn off. The T-Mobile gateway or the router. Now I know. Thanks.
Hi sorry i dont know much but i just got tmhi but i am having problems connecting to some devices due to ip adress errors will connecting my gateway to a router help solve my problem?
Unfortunately this doesn't work with the gateway they gave me at T-Mobile, as the router doesn't have advanced settings on the web interface. I called customer support and the told me they could not help me with this. however I could use a script to turn the WiFi radio off. I found the script through a video: "How to add a router to T-Mobile Home Internet"
Would you consider doing a follow-up video on how best to configure a router to other gateway models that don't have the same level of configurability as the Nokia? I just got off the phone with a T-Mobile tech agent and she seemed to think the newer models, and any future ones, wouldn't go back to allowing the same depth in options that your older model does because internet speeds are so high now that the difference is negligible, at least in their view.

Thank you so much for a great video! I will be moving into a new housing place, and since I do not want to share wifi with other people who are sharing rents there, I was looking for internet plan services that does not require much of internet cable installation and can get ready for wifi easily. I found out this tmobile total of 50 dollars per month, no cable installation but just renting one unit, and thankfully, the service is supported(although with limited spots) in the place i will be living in. However, I wonder if finding wifi plan that is about the same convenience as this 50 dollar plan but cheaper is available (I wouldn't mind the speed going down... 90mbps is good enough for me) Do you have any recommendations on this type of plan? If you do know, I would enormously appreciate if you could share with me, Thank you and I hope to hear back from you soon asap.
The only option I have found that is comparable is Verizon. If you are a Verizon mobile customer, they offer a discount that will make it $40. Other than that $50 is the cheapest I have found.

just signed up for T Mobile Home Internet.
The customer simply wants a product that works closed enough to what it is advertised... simple...
Agreed. I added a router for the options. I needed better internet, but didn't want to sacrifice settings. This was my way of doing that.
One more important thing about properly configuring your own router with this gateway, make sure you enable IPV6 and put it in PASSTHROUGH MODE. I could not get Netflix or some other streaming services to work through my router but after making this change everything works perfect now.
Thank you!
How do you do this?

@@flvckodope1774 exactly what's happening to me. I've just come to a conclusion that I can't play online

I am so glad you mentioned this. I work for a large company from home and I know their VPN is very secure. I don't need any issues.
hey just wondering since the T-Mobile Gateway has a strict or D nat type does this router make ith moderate or b nat type?

Which router do you suggest? I know nothing about routers. Speed? Size? Color? 😆 I'm lost. Help please.
Would the TP link AX5400 also work?
Yes it would.
So does enabling your NAT make it open? My NAT on the T-Mobile wifi is strict and I can’t get it to change to open
It will not make it open, but it does (or should) change it from strict to Moderate.
So NAT 2? Just wanting to clarify :).

@JackNtheXbox Thank you sir.
Do you have DHCP set on the TP-Link router? or is the T-Mobile dishing them out?
The router is handling that. It helps with speed.
What if you have your external router in access point would that cause problems with the T-Mobile home internet

One router is downstairs, 2nd is upstairs & 3rd is an outdoor router to cover the yard. My question is will this work: 1 & 2 into gateway & #3 into #1? Also, 2 & 3 are set up as AP's
If they are set up as AP's, that should work great!!!
I have the new Sagemcon t-mobile gateway. It doesn't allow me to turn off the wireless connections. Will it still work with my tp-link AC1900 router?
Yes...I have a video for you to watch that should help. th-cam.com/video/FTI9AOaYedc/w-d-xo.html
Thank you Soo much! It means a lot to me. I hope I can continue to make content that entertains but also helps.
Did they remove the configuration stuff from that landing page? I don't get any of that. I just see the signal strength.
If you have one of the newer Gateways, this method will not work. Has to be the Nokia silver trash can. I am putting out a video soon to address this.
Darn same issue here.
I type the IP address on the bottom of my gateway and but the page you are showing does not come up only a picture of what the mobile T-Mobile app looks like what should I do?
same here, did you figure out how to fix it?
Bruce and joseph, the new gateways have different settings. I am working on a video right now that shows a way to bypass the settings and turn off the broadcast of the Wi-Fi from the gateway. I'm hoping to have it out before the end of the week.
Doing this router setup, would it fix the "UPnP not successful and Moderate NAT Type" on Xbox one?
UPnP yes, but you will still get moderate NAT.
thanks for the video! i have the T-Mobile 5G Home Internet and it works great in the house, ....but not so good in my detached garage? is there a extender i can buy to get wifi in my garage?
TP Link WiFi 6 extender is a good one.
@@JackNtheXbox much appreciated!!
Hey so do you have to have a pc to switch all those settings? Or can you do it from a mobile device?
You can do it from a mobile device.
What recommendation do you have for a faraday shield for my T-Mobile gateway?
Honestly....don't use one. I would now know where to start on a recommendation. Sorry.
I guess I'm doing something wrong. I can't seem to get to the web page where I can change the settings. I put the ip address In the web line. and it doesn't look anything like the page you've shown in the video.
You must have the newer Gateway. Trying to put a video out this week to help with this.
@@Eternal_Tech Thanks for the response.
Check into putting the router to AP or bridge mode

The new model does not have these features yet. I am hoping they will come out with them in a new Firmware update soon. Sorry.
@@JackNtheXbox You are behind double NAT anyways. NAT later 1 is on the carrier side, and NAT layer 2 is taking place on your router.
Can I use My Deco TP-link routers, or can it only be a specific one? I need to extend my internet signal throughout my home, TIA!
You can use mesh routers. You will just need to turn on mesh functionality.

@@oy8717 you should see a slight increase in speed, not much. The reason you turn off the gateway WiFi is to limit conflicting wavelengths. It will cause connection issues if you have them both running WiFi at the same time.
Does this work with the square style Gateway? Is there an advantage of using the router vs what the Gateway itself provides? Thank you!
Sadly it does not. I have another video that might help with that.
Subscribed. So do you know if possible using an ipad? I just got this internet for gaming on the road (I’m a truck driver). It worked hardwired in at home but once I got on the road it won’t. I’m on Xbox series X but only have ipad and iPhone to mess with the app so I’m wondering if it’s even worth buying a router.
Having worked in trucking (CR England and Knight) I would say, the router would not give you the functionality boost that would be worth it. You can change things on your iPad, I will be doing a video on that this week. Thanks for subscribing! We should play on Xbox- what games do you play?
I use the t mobile magenta unlimited hotspot plan, and use my phone as a 5g hotspot. Best $80 I ever spent, and if you set the phone outside the truck in a big zip lock with a battery bank under shade it will grab good signal.
Never had the misfortune of working with cr England but I was a swifty...

@@JackNtheXbox awesome!!! Thanks I had an Orbi setup I wanted to try out with it!
Thinking about Nest WiFi Pro 6E mesh, what are your experiences with a mesh system?

What model is the router your using in the video ?

The only option I have found that is comparable is Verizon. If you are a Verizon mobile customer, they offer a discount that will make it $40. Other than that $50 is the cheapest I have found.
Quick savings advice, if you have T-Mobile and have the Magenta Max plan you get internet for $30 call them and ask about the promotion 😉 your welcome!
Will this work for a wifi extender to connect. Mine won’t connect.
Most WiFi extenders will not connect directly to the gateway.
@@JackNtheXbox Do you know by chance if the NETGEAR 1200 will work?
Will getting a router improve my TMHI speeds?
I have found my speeds to be similar, but I drop connections less frequently. It has helped my home network become more reliable.
Can I add switch to these and multiple devices including poe cameras , computers and gaming consoles
Yes. I have two Xboxes, several smart home devices, 6 computers, and a bunch of streaming devices. Works like a charm.
So what if you have the Nokia Gateway...do you just git to the T mobile webpage to change these settings? I can not figure that part out
No, you will need to access your gateway using 192.168.0.12 in the browser bar.
@@JackNtheXbox what do you mean by Browser bar? The actual web browser bar? Or Google?
@JackNtheXbox NVM I figured it out! Thank you so much! What website did you go to for the router settings? I bought the same router that you used in the video.
@@mgabriel3590 192.168.0.1 is how you get to the router settings.

Does this bypass the strict NAT I get on Xbox and switch ?
It does. I have never gotten hit with strict NAT. I usually float between open and Moderate.
@@JackNtheXbox I tried it and still strict nat. The only way I've got around it is a vpn on laptop using it as a hotspot
What router did you use?
@@JackNtheXbox tp link ax1800
So, the things that cased strict NAT for me was when I had the router in Access Point Mode, or if I did not turn on UPnP. Do you have both of those settings changed?
