    00:00 Introduction
It should come as no surprise that in today's world, particularly in the US but also internationally, we find ourselves in an increasingly superficial society. The pervasiveness of advertising, the allure of celebrity, and the nature of competition both economic and otherwise, all contribute to narrow definitions of success and indeed narrow definitions of manhood; a good deal of this also has to do with changing social dynamics on the topic of gender and the idea of so-called toxic masculinity. These conversations can be divisive to be sure and we will discuss them today but that's not our only aim, we'd also like to dispel some other societal myths and indeed lies about what it means to be a man and how to move past them when navigating modern society.
01:23 Lie #1: A man must always be independent and solve his problem alone.
    03:05 Lie #2: Wealth determines a man's value.
04:34 Lie #3: All men should follow the same life trajectory.
    06:00 Lie #4: Men shouldn't be emotional.
08:10 Lie #5: Masculinity is defined by physical strength or athletic ability.
09:36 Lie #6: Masculinity is defined by your fame, fortune, intellect, and power.
09:49 Lie #7: Masculinity is defined by objectifying women.
11:04 What makes a gentleman in our opinion:
    1. A gentleman recognizes that he is imperfect but at the same time, he maintains high standards and has a drive for continual lifelong self-improvement.
    2. He is well-mannered, respectful, and courteous, and acknowledges everyone's personal dignity.
    3. He is well informed but also open-minded, willing to consider the perspectives of others alongside his own learnings.
    4. He recognizes the differences between aggressiveness and assertiveness, confidence and arrogance, and commands respect without being a jerk.
    5. Of course, a gentleman is well dressed, but again, as a matter of personal improvement rather than as a flashy display of wealth.

First, I'm absolutely in love with the new slightly sillier style of the recent videos. Keep up the good laughs! Second, as a man who likes stereo-typically masculine things (cigars, whiskey, watches, women, video games) but also stereo-typically feminine things (cats, fashion, interior design), it took me a full decade (all of my 20's) to learn to separate myself from toxic friends who would make disparaging comments about my race, style of dress, and class completely out of the blue based on these things. I wish I had videos like this back then to show me a man can be many things.

I'm a woman so I probably do not even belong here, but I honestly appreciate it when a man is passionate about very different and somehow "opposite" things (why opposite and declared opposite by whom ? I could not really say, though...). For instance my husband is this manly military officer, who likes his rugby and blended malts, but he also shares my love for beautiful flowers, cute babies, baroque Music or Miyazaki pictures... To me that is the definition of being "sain et équilibré" (having a healthy and balanced mind), and it is a fine quality !

@@elisedasvin170 Hey, everyone is free to say what's on their mind, and your input is appreciated! It helps breakdown the whole stereo-typing of what a man should or shouldn't be. I think more men need input from women like you, to be honest. Of course everyone is different, but it doesn't hurt to hear differing thoughts and opinions.

Honestly Raphael, that's what made me stick around the last few years. Unlike other men's style channels you nor Preston nor Kyle came off as overly concerned with your masculinity. The focus was always being a better version of yourself. Or to put it simply, a gentleman.

@@tiborklein5349 I'm with you there. I still follow them, and I like most of their content, but as of lately, I feel like they focus too much on "what to do to impress women", or "top five things that will get their attention" etc. And honestly, it seems so superficial. While here on the Gentleman's gazette, they remain simple and focus on what's really important: self improvement, not seeking others' attention or validation. After all, in my opinion, being a man is all about living up to your code of honor/conduct, respecting others and standing up for what you believe; and not about striving for praise.

The most important component to being a man, in my view, is honoring your word: If you say that you will do something, you had better do it. Trust is the single most valuable currency you can possess: The dollar may become worthless tomorrow and even gold can lose value over time, but trust is _always_ worth something.

Feelings aren's always good. The advice should be not to let the emotions errupt freely, but to rethink the emotional standard you are willing to express and dampen the feelings you feel are negative ( which requires time and awareness to process, and in this time it is the most important to stay calm and stoic; after you have figured out what you want to say - then you can start sharing it). Even if you are not violent, you can sometimes let slit some nasty things without even meaning them. And once they come out, there will be no way back. And it is a lot harder to repair your standing afterwards, than to keep your emotions in check.

I really really loved the language, the message and the overall format of this video. I think you did an excellent job at communicating things that are both very simple and very hard to learn or unlearn for some people without ever sounding judgemental.

We're mourning the sudden loss of a perfect gentleman who literally dropped dead on the dance floor. I'm so glad that I had that last Viennese waltz with him that night. I was holding his hand and keeping track of his pulse as the doctor and other medical professionals tried to revive him while we were waiting for the paramedics. He embodied all the qualities that you stress and we are diminished by his passing. If you want to be remembered fondly during your life and after your death, you could do much worse than to embrace these values.

Solid content as always! Sadly it is very difficult making new friends nowadays even keeping in touch with certain old friends at times but I also make sure I also focus on myself and doing the solo activities I enjoy doing. Either way at least stay in touch with a few people to keep your spirits up excellent points! I haven't been able to see my therapist in awhile but I stay strong and optimistic.

I sort of want kids but at the same time I'd rather not have to worry about them. When the end comes I want as little attachment as possible. I'll take the cat with me just so that I have a backup plan if my spaghettio's run out.
